Newcastle United vs Liverpool

, KO: 17:30 Feb 18, 2023, St James' Park
Liverpool

NEWCASTLE UNITED will endeavour to snap a three-game winless streak in the Premier League when they entertain Liverpool on Saturday evening.

Eddie Howe's men missed the chance to move into third spot in the top-flight standings when they were held to a 1-1 draw at relegation-threatened Bournemouth last weekend.

That means the Magpies have drawn five of their last six league games as the race for a much coveted top-four berth begins to to heat up

While Newcastle are having a season to remember, they will be desperate to arrest their stuttering form when they square off with Liverpool at St James' Park on Saturday.

As for the Reds, they will roll into the north east buoyed by their 2-0 Merseyside derby victory over Everton on Monday, on a night where my main wager copped at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp will be hoping that timely victory could act as the catalyst his team needs to get them moving back in the right direction.

Outright Betting

Newcastle, who have not lost a Premier League home game since hosting Liverpool last April, enter this teatime tussle as 11/8 (Bet 365) favourites.

Liverpool have triumphed in just two of their 10 top-flight road trips this term and that is reflected in the match odds, with the visitors the 19/10 (Bet 365) outsiders while a share of the St James' Park spoils can be backed at 12/5 (William Hill).

Betting Angles

I successfully opposed goals in Monday's Merseysdie derby and I'm more than happy to side with the same Under 2.75 Goals play here at 17/20 (Bet 365).

Taking this angle of attack means a game generating zero, one or two goals would yield profit, while exactly three match strikes would provide a bit of added insurance in the shape of a half stakes loss.

The Magpies have built much of their success this season on a strong defensive foundation, with Eddie Howe's side boasting the best defensive record in the top flight with just 13 goals conceded.

That robustness can be attributed to the fact that 14 of Newcastle's 22 league games this season have produced Under 2.5 goals, including each of their last six assignments.

While Liverpool have an attacking armoury filled with goal-threatening talent, they have failed to score in three of their last four Premier League contests.

So, with all things considered, I’ll happily snap up  the 17/20 (Bet 365) quote on Under 2.75 goals on Saturday evening, knowing this selection will only see us suffer a full loss if this fixture features four goals or more.

Given that Liverpool could find it tricky to break down what is a defensively sound Newcastle's side, I'll also back the visitors to earn at least five corners at 5/6 (Bet 365).

The Reds, who are averaging 6.6 flag kicks per-game in the Premier League this season, have covered the 5+ line in recent visits to the likes of Aston Villa, Brentford  and Wolves, and I fancy them to follow suit on Saturday against what will be a typically-stubborn Newcastle team.
