Motherwell vs Rangers

, KO: 12:30 Mar 18, 2023, Fir Park
Rangers

RANGERS' best performances have come on the road since Michael Beale took charge and the Ibrox boss will be looking for his side to put on another slick show when they visit revitalised Motherwell.

If you take away clashes against Celtic, Beale has made the perfect start to his Ibrox reign, winning all 16 clashes against the other sides he has come up against.

But when you're in charge of one of Glasgow's big two, you're always measured against your biggest rival and Beale's side have lost the League Cup Final to the Hoops while failing to eat into their nine-point lead at the top.

It has still been a good start to his reign however and when Rangers have faced tough games on the road, they've delivered. Trips to the capital to face Hearts and Hibs ended in 3-0 and 4-1 wins respectively while Gers also won 3-0 on the plastic pitch at Livingston.

Fir Park is another tough venue on paper with Motherwell enjoying a new lease of life since Stuart Kettlewell took over. The Steelmen have claimed three wins and a draw so far under the former Ross County boss, moving them six points clear of danger.

But Well now face a tough run of games before the SPFL Premiership split, with Hibs and Celtic also on the horizon, so Kettlewell will be desperate to get more points on the board.

How the bookies view it

It's no surprise to see Rangers as heavy favourites and their best price is just 2/5 at Bet365. Motherwell are as big as 15/2 at Coral while the draw pays 17/4 at LiveScoreBet.

Recent head to head

Motherwell were a thorn in Rangers' side last season, claiming two Ibrox draws, but they haven't beaten Rangers since a 2-0 League Cup semi-final triumph back in 2017. Both meetings this term have ended in Rangers wins, with a 2-1 triumph at Fir Park followed by a 3-0 victory at Ibrox.

Players to watch

Antonio Colak delivered for me when I tipped him for a goal against Hibs and now looks to be Beale's first pick up front ahead of Alfredo Morelos. The Croatian is  11/10 at BetVictor for anytime scorer which looks decent value on current form.

Kevin van Veen continues to be Motherwell's biggest goal threat and his double sealed a crucial three points last time out against Ross County. The Dutchman is 14/5 with Unibet for anytime scorer in this one.

Anything else catch the eye?

We've seen plenty of goals in this fixture of late, with 22 scored in the last five Fir Park meetings. BTTS landed in all those matches and it pays 10/11 at Bet365 here while over 3.5 goals is 13/8 at Betfair.

Motherwell's January signings have played a key role in their upsurge, with Calum Butcher adding steel in defence. The Englishman is usually good value for a card and is 5/4 at Bet365 to fall foul of the ref.

Backing Rangers at -6 in the corner handicap paid off for me in their Cup win against Raith as they went on to win 18-0 on that count. They've won seven or more corners in their last three outings and Rangers -3 in the corner handicap pays 29/20 for this one at Unibet.

This match between Motherwell and Rangers will be played on Mar 18, 2023 and kick off at 12:30. Check below for our tipsters best Motherwell vs Rangers prediction. You may also visit our dedicated betting previews section for the most up to date previews.
