Jens Berthel Askou didn't get off to the best of starts as Motherwell boss at the weekend and will be out to make amends when his side host Peterhead in their second Scottish League Cup group game.
I thought the Steelmen would be too strong for League Two Clyde on Saturday but poor defending cost them as the Bully Wee netted twice to seal a 2-2 draw.
Askou can take some heart from the fact his side won the resulting penalty shootout to bank a bonus point but they are already playing catch-up in Group G, with Morton leading the way after beating Peterhead 4-2 in their opener.
Askou's men face Championship side Ton in their final group game and can ill afford any more slip-ups against Peterhead and Stenhousemuir in their next two assignments.
Both those sides play in League One, with the Blue Toon on a high after winning promotion at the end of last season as League Two champions.
Peterhead gave Morton a decent game on Saturday so Motherwell will need a big improvement on their performance against Clyde to hand Askou a victory in his first game at Fir Park.
How the bookies view it: Steelmen still strong favourites
Despite that underwhelming performance against Clyde, Motherwell are still heavy favourites with home advantage at 2/11 with BoyleSports. Peterhead are 9/1 to spring a shock and the draw pays 5/1.
Head to head: Long time no see
These sides have only faced off once in a competitive game and it came all the way back in 1951. That was in a Scottish Cup tie up north and Motherwell eased to a 4-0 win.
Players to watch: Tawanda in the groove
I flagged up Tawanda Maswanhise as Motherwell's biggest threat against Clyde and it was the Zimbabwean forward who spared their blushes with a double. He will be confident of grabbing another goal here but the bookies are unlikely to offer any prices as we had no scorer markets at the weekend.
Kiwi striker Oliver Colloty got off to a good start at Peterhead by scoring on his debut against Morton. The 22-year-old netted from the spot so looks the most likely to grab a goal for the Blue Toon in this one.
Probable line-ups
Motherwell's star player Lennon Miller was a notable absentee on Saturday as he sat out the draw with Clyde amid increasing speculation over a big move away from Fir Park. Askou hinted the midfielder wasn't quite up to speed so he could miss the game out too.
Forward Zach Robinson also remains sidelined for Well while Peterhead should be along similar lines to the side that lost to Morton.
Motherwell: Ward, McGinn, Gordon, Balmer, Koutroumbis, Slattery, Halliday, Sparrow, Watt, Sule, Maswanhise.
Peterhead: Newman, Strachan, Goldie, Dunne, Wilson, McCarthy, Smith, Pawlett, Forrest, Barry, Colloty.
Anything else catch the eye?
Motherwell weren't the only Premiership side to struggle on day one, with Dundee and St Mirren also failing to beat lower-league opposition. You always see a few shocks at this stage of the tournament with top teams undercooked but Well should be better with a game under their belt.
Askou's side are also at home this time on a much better pitch so I fancy them to win both halves, which is priced at 11/8 by BoyleSports. A Motherwell win with over 3.5 goals also stands a chance at 5/4.
Both these teams were involved in weekend thrillers, with 10 goals in total across the two games. That makes over 3.5 strikes appealing on its own at evens with BoyleSports while combining BTTS and over 2.5 goals pays 11/10. I also like over 1.5 first-half strikes, which pays evens.
