Two teams battling at opposite ends of the table square off in a midweek French Ligue 1 fixture as Lorient host PSG. The Parisians are comfortably setting the pace at the top of the standings and should have too much for the relegation threatened hosts.
It has been a difficult first half of the season for Lorient, who have not won a match since September. They have been a permanent fixture in the bottom three and are currently on a 12-match winless run across all competitions.
There is still plenty of football to play in the second half of the season but Lorient are already showing relegation form. They have lost their last seven league matches and were beaten 4-1 by Metz in their previous fixture before crashing out of the Coupe de France last Saturday following a 1-0 defeat to Rennes.
Christophe Pelissier's men have even struggled to find their feet at home where they are on a five-match winless run, losing the last three. The goals have also been few and far between this season, they have found the net just once in their last six Ligue 1 matches.
There was a tricky period at the start of December when PSG looked slightly off colour, culminating in back-to-back draws with Nice and Lille. However, they appear to have successfully eased themselves away from those problems and have now won their last three matches across all competitions.
PSG are setting the pace in Ligue 1 and hold a comfortable 13-point lead over closest challengers Marseille on the table. They claimed a 2-0 victory over Monaco in their previous fixture and followed that up with a 3-0 win over lower league side Feignies Aulnoye in the Coupe de France.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men have also looked solid on their recent travels, claiming two wins from their last three away matches.
How the bookies view it
PSG are overwhelming favourites among the bookies and priced at 2/5 by bet365 to claim the win. Lorient are considered outsiders at home at 38/5 with SBK, while betfair is offering odds of 9/2 for a draw.
Recent head to head
PSG often come out on top in this fixture and have won 12 of the last 13 matches against Lorient. However, they suffered a 3-2 defeat on their last visit to the Stade Allainment-Le Moustoir back in January.
Players to watch
Kylian Mbappe has been on fire for PSG in recent weeks, scoring six goals in his last three matches across all competitions. The striker is priced at 8/13 by bet365 to get on the score sheet on Wednesday.
Given Lorient’s struggles in attack, PSG will be keen for a shutout on Wednesday. Marquinhos and Abdou Diallo are likely to continue in central defence and will be targeting a clean sheet at 11/8 with Skybet.
