Liverpool vs Crystal Palace

, KO: 14:00 Apr 14, 2024, Anfield
Crystal Palace

SHELLSHOCKED Liverpool have seven games remaining in their quest to give Jurgen Klopp a send-off to remember, but only three of those are at home, starting with Sunday's clash with Crystal Palace.

Klopp's side were in midweek action against Atalanta in the Europa League and bombed spectacularly in a sensational 3-0 home defeat which must have had punters across the land ripping up their coupons. It was their first home defeat in 14 months and the boss admitted they were unrecognisable.

Before that, they again failed to win at Old Trafford – this time in the league as they regretted wasting a host of first chances in a 2-2 draw.

Palace are still nervously looking over their shoulders even though they are in 14th place in the table. They have a five-point cushion over the teams in the drop zone.

But they are another team who can't seem to buy a win at the moment with only one victory since the end of January. They have only managed two points from their last five games although they did have to play Spurs and Manchester City in that spell.

They gave City a fright last week by opening the scoring although they eventually went down to a 4-2 defeat.

How the bookies view it

Liverpool are strong 2/9 favourites not unexpectedly with bet365 and a shock win for the Eagles is 11/1 with Paddy Power. The draw is 6/1 with William Hill.

Recent head to heads

Palace gave Liverpool a major fright in December when they were a goal up at Selhurst Park and lost two late goals after they had a man sent off.

And last season they managed home and aways draws against Liverpool. Palace's last win at Anfield was in 2017.

Players to watch

Darwin Nunez has scored ten goals in his last 15 games and has been in fine form. He is evens to net at Anfield anytime with Paddy Power.

Jean-Philippe Mateta is hitting form at a good time for Palace with three goals in his last four games including last week against City. The French striker is 9/2 to score anytime with Boylesports.

Anything else catch the eye?

Nothing is straightforward at this stage of the season and although the hosts should get the job done, odd things happen at this time…as Atalanta proved…and their backers should proceed with caution.

Liverpool do seem to like a challenge at Anfield – they have failed to keep a clean sheet for their last eight home league games and they include visitors like Sheffield United, Luton Town and Burnley.

They do usually seem to find a way to get the job done though in the league anyway and the obvious call here is a Liverpool win and both teams to score although the laters seem to know this too and that's why it's at a relatively short price of 8/5 at best with Boylesports.

In fact, in three of the last four home league games, they have had to come from behind. It's worth a small tickle it happens again at 5/1 with bet365.

Liverpool tend to rack up the corners at home – twice they've won 13 on their own in the past three home league games. Back them to get over 7.5 with UniBet at 22/25.
