Kilmarnock vs Rangers

, KO: 19:45 Feb 28, 2024, Rugby Park
Rangers

RANGERS face the second of two huge title tests on Wednesday with a trip to Ayrshire to face Kilmarnock.

Philippe Clement's side blew away Hearts at the weekend – with the capital side coming into it having won 11 out of 12 games in all competitions.

And they face the Premiership's other in-form club when they meet a Killie side who are having their best season since the days of Scotland manager Steve Clarke.

Derek McInnes' men last defeat was at Ibrox two days into the new year and since then they have been in excellent form. And it's their fortress Rugby Park which has proved to be particularly impregnable recently.

Killie have only lost twice there on their much-criticised artificial surface this season and have beaten both Celtic (twice) and Rangers there.

They have a really strong strikeforce with the arrival of Kevin van Veen and Greg Stewart boosting the likes of Matty Kennedy and Danny Armstrong.

But they are facing a Rangers team on the top of their game at the moment despite injuries to key players Todd Cantwell and Abdallah Sima.

Three of their new arrivals last month – Mohamed Diomande, Oscar Cortes and Fabio Silva – all netted at the weekend and Cyriel Dessers grabbed a double.

How the bookies view it

Rangers are 4/9 favourites with UniBet while Kilmarnock will have their backers at 7/1 with bet365. The draw is 7/2 with Coral.

Recent head to heads

Rangers crashed to a 1-0 defeat at Rugby Park on the first day of the season which put the pressure immediately on Michael Beale. However, as stated, they got a measure of revenge last month with a 3-1 win at Ibrox.

Players to watch

Danny Armstrong has been in excellent form for Killie this season and takes penalties for them too. He will be a key man for them and is 11/1 to score with bet365.

Cyriel Dessers has taken a fair amount of stick this season for the chances he's missed, but he's still got 16 goals this season. The Nigerian international is 6/4 to score anytime with bet365.

Anything else catch the eye?

As impressive as Rangers were against Hearts, it's a different game entirely at Rugby Park and they will be up against a manager who will be desperate to give a bloody nose to another Old Firm team just ten days after drawing at Celtic.

Rangers have the luxury though of being able to draw on significant talent from their bench and the five subs these days is yet another massive advantage for the teams with the biggest resources…like Rangers.

They might just have too much for Killie in the end. Take a chance on a big price for a half time draw and a Rangers win at 7/2 with BetVictor.

Killie have only twice failed to score in 20 games at Rugby Park this season and they look good value at evens for them to score before the 79th minute with bet365.

This should be a no-holds barred game and with David Dickinson in charge, he should be the Real Deal in flashing the cards with bet365's 8/11 a solid shout for over 3.5 of them.
