Kilmarnock welcome Hibernian to BBSP Stadium Rugby Park for a Premiership fixture on Sunday with both teams seeking their first win of the season. There has been little to separate them in recent times and with both teams seemingly evenly matched at the moment, they could be set to cancel each other out.
It has been a difficult start to the season as they are still as they have lost all three of their Premiership matches. Derek McInnes’men suffered a 2-0 at Aberdeen in their previous fixture.
Things have been so rough for Kilmarnock at the start of the season that they have also crashed out of the Europa Conference League. They played out a 1-1 draw with Copenhagen in Thursday’s playoff second leg for a 3-1 aggregate defeat.
Hibernian are in a similar situation with Kilmarnock as they are also without a win after three matches. They began with two straight defeats before playing out a 2-2 draw with Dundee last time out.
A major problem for Hibernian is a poor defence as they have conceded seven goals in just three matches. Manager David Gray will be particularly disappointed with the draw with Dundee as they led heading into the final two minutes before conceding the equaliser.
How the bookies view it: Evenly matched rivals
Kilmarnock have a slight edge among the bookies and are priced at 13/8 by Betfred to claim the win. A victory for Hibernian is valued at 7/4 by Betfred, who is also offering odds of 23/10 for a draw.
Head to head: Little to separate them
Kilmarnock has a 41-29 advantage with 26 draws from 96 previous matches against Hibernian. Two of the last three meetings have ended in draws, including a 2-2 scoreline in the last meeting back in January.
Players to watch: Look out for the forwards
Kilmarnock have some quality in attack, although they have not shown it too often this season. Striker Matthew Kennedy was on target in the last meeting with Hibernian and is priced at 16/5 by Betfred to find the net on Sunday.
Martin Boyle often features in attack for Hibernian and could be the one to watch on Sunday. The striker is priced at odds of 2/1 by Betfred to get on the score sheet.
Probable line-ups
Kilmarnock will be without Bradley Lyons, who is suspended after being sent off at Aberdeen. Kennedy is set to lead the line once again while Stuart Findley is set to start in defence.
Hibernian have no major injuries and suspensions, and could stick with much of the team that faced Dundee. O’Hora should feature in defence while Mykola Kukharevych is set to lead the line with Boyle providing support.
Kilmarnock; O’Hara, Burroughs, Mayo, Findley, Dean, Armstrong, Polworth, Donnelly, Watson, Kennedy, Watkins
Hibernian: Bursik, Obita, O’Hora, Ekpitela, Miller, Newell, Kwon, Camden, Molotnikov, Boyle, Kukharevych
