Denmark are seeking a second straight win in Group I of the Euro 2024 qualifiers as they travel to Kazakhstan on Sunday. The Danes are already looking like the team to dominate proceedings in this group and should ease past the visitors.
Kazakhstan began their Group I campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Slovenia in their opening fixture. They failed to build on an early effort from Maksim Samorodov and allowed the visitors back into the contest in the second half.
Aside from being a disappointing way to start their qualifying campaign, the result means Kazakhstan have now lost their last four matches across all competitions. Magomed Adiyev’s men often look lightweight in attack and have failed to score more than one goal in each of those four matches.
A small positive for Kazakhstan is that they had claimed five straight home wins prior to the defeat to Slovenia. However, much of those fixtures have been against fellow minnows like Moldova and Azerbaijan.
Denmark made a flying start to their campaign as they claimed a 3-1 victory over Finland in their opening fixture. They were largely untroubled for much of the contest with a superb hat-trick from Rasmus Hojlund earning them the win.
Although only one match has been played, they are already the early pace setters in the group and are unlikely to be hauled back.
Aside from the comfortable win over Finland, another thing that will give Denmark confidence is their record on their travels. Kasper Hjulmand’s men have won two of their last three away matches, beating France and Austria.
How the bookies view it
Denmark are considered overwhelming favourites among the bookies with a win priced at 1/4 by bet365. An unlikely victory for Kazakhstan is valued at 14/1 by bet365 while a draw is set at odds of 9/2 by Unibet.
Head to head
Denmark have never lost to Kazakhstan, winning all four previous matches. The Danes did the double over the hosts during the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, claiming a 4-1 win at home before earning a 3-1 win in the reverse fixture.
Players to watch
Rasmus Hojlund already showed his quality by scoring a hat-trick in the opening fixture and could be worth keeping an eye on. With the likes of Martin Braithwaite and Mikkel Damsgaard also featuring in attack, the Danes could be backed to produce over 1.5 goals at 4/11 with Paddy Power.
Having opened the scoring against Slovenia, Maksim Samorodov could be the one to watch for Kazakhstan. With Abat Aymbetov also expected to feature in attack, the hosts could be tipped to produce over 0.5 goals at 11/10 with Paddy Power.
Anything else catch the eye?
Denmark saw over 3.5 goals in their opening fixture and could be set for a repeat at 2/1 with BetVictor. Over 2.5 goals can also be considered at 8/11 by BetVictor while bet365 is offering odds of 5/4 on both teams to score.
The Danes scored in both halves against Finland and Sunday’s clash could be backed to follow a similar pattern at 10/11 with Paddy Power. They could also be tipped to win both halves at 13/8 by bet365, who are also offering odds of 8/11 for a -1 handicap.
