Juventus and Parma are getting ready to kick off their Serie A season on Sunday in Torino, hoping for a positive start to the new campaign.
The hosts haven't played any official matches yet, but they will enter this game on a three-match winning streak in pre-season friendlies, including nice wins over Atalanta and Borussia Dortmund.
Juventus have also played at the Club World Cup this summer, where they showed some flashes of quality and managed to get out of the group stage, but they were then eliminated by Real Madrid in the knockout stages.
When it comes to Parma, they had a solid pre-season with just one loss in five games. Furthermore, they have already played an official game this new season since they hosted and beat Pescara in the early rounds of Coppa Italia.
So, the guests will hope they can have a good start of the season, even though going to Torino for a game with Juventus is never an easy task, for any team.
How the bookies view it: Slim chances for Parma
As expected, the bookies consider this an easy win for Juventus, with the odds on the hosts winning currently at 2/5 at Boylesports. Meanwhile, Parma to win comes at 11/2 odds and a draw is priced at 7/2, all at Boylesports.
Recent head to head: Juventus looking for a better outcome than last season
While last season Juventus failed to beat Parma, losing one of their meetings and drawing the other, they have won four games in a row before that, so they still have the advantage when it comes to their latest H2H meetings.
Players to watch: Jonathan David to make his debut
Juventus have possibly pulled off the coup of the summer by signing David for free after his contract with Lille expired. After all, many teams were interested in the Canadian, who will make his official debut for The Old Lady on Sunday. David did appear for Juventus in three pre-season matches, scoring his first goal for the team against Atalanta. At BoyleSports, David to score at any time in this game has 20/21 odds.
Another player to watch is Andrea Cambiaso, who scored a brace in the friendly against Dortmund. The Italian full-back might assume a more offensive role this season and he certainly proved in that game that he has the quality for it.
Probable line-ups
The hosts will have to manage without their injured trio of Juan Cabal, Nicolo Savona, and Fabio Miretti in this game, while Randal Kolo Muani, who spent the second part of last season at Juventus on loan, is still waiting to see if his move will be made permanent.
Meanwhile, Parma have just sold their 18-year-old defender Giovanni Leoni to Liverpool for £26, as well as their forward Ange-Yoan Bonny to Inter Milan, which isn't great news for their new coach Carlos Cuesta so close to the season opener. Furthermore, Matija Frigan, Gabriel Charpentier, and Jacob Ondrejka are unavailable with injuries, while Botond Balogh is suspended for this game.
Juventus: Di Gregorio, Kalulu, Bremer, Kelly, Mario, Thuram, Locatelli, Cambiaso, Conceicao, Yildiz, David
Parma: Suzuki, Delprato, Circati, Valenti, Lovik, Bernabe, Keita, Valeri, Almqvist, Ordonez, Pellegrino
Anything else catch the eye?
While Juventus didn't have a great last season, they still finished fourth in Serie A and are one of the favourites to win the title this season. Parma were able to take points off them last time around, but Juve will want to start the new season with three points at home and we can see it happening, so we like the 23/20 odds at Boylesports on Juventus to lead at half time and win the game.
Another bet that sounds interesting and has solid odds (8/11 at BoyleSports) is over 2.5 total goals. After all, six of the last eight meetings between Juventus and Parma have ended with at least three goals being scored, so we don't see why that can't be the case on Sunday too.
