Inverness Caledonian Thistle vs Partick Thistle
Scottish Championship, KO: 19:45 Mar 24, 2023, Caledonian StadiumPARTICK THISTLE have been in great form recently and travel to the Highlands full of confidence to face Caley Thistle on Friday night.
The Jags have been flying since the appointment of club legend Kris Doolan who took over from Ian McCall who was sacked in bizarre circumstances hours after a brave 3-2 defeat at Rangers in the Scottish Cup.
And while that episode saw Thistle receiving plenty of criticism, there can be no arguments about the job Doolan has done since. The Maryhill side have managed three wins and three draws and conceded just one goal in those six games.
It's propelled them right back into the mix and while the nine points gap means they are surely too far behind Championship leaders Queen's Park, they are back into a play-off spot.
Inverness are an outfit that are hard to read. They have managed to reach the Scottish Cup semi-final despite losing to Queen's Park, who were later eliminated after fielding an ineligible player and they defeated Premiership sides Kilmarnock and Livingston to get there.
But Billy Dodds' side have suffered through injuries and inconsistencies all season and are in no-man's land for both promotion and relegation.
How the bookies view it
Partick Thistle are firm favourites here despite being away and they can be backed at 11/10 with McBookie.com.
ICT are 5/2 with William Hill and the draw is 23/10 with bet365.
Recent head to heads
Thistle hammered Inverness 5-1 and 4-1 at Firhill, but Caley Thistle won their home game 1-0 in the three meetings so far this season.
ICT also won the play-off between the clubs last season with home and away wins.
Players to watch
Veteran Northern Irish striker Billy McKay has 15 goals for the season and the 34-year-old is always a threat. He is 2/1 to score with bet365.
Thistle striker Brian Graham is a year older than McKay and a goal fewer than him and has also enjoyed a fine season. He is 7/4 with bet365 to score his 15th goal of the campaign.
Anything else catch the eye?
It's a hard one to call here with Inverness very inconsistent and Thistle drawing their last two games 0-0. Inverness do look far too big though for a home game with little pressure on them and the call is the double chance for the home win or a draw at a solid 8/11 with bet365.
Thistle have obviously tightened up considerably at the back since the arrival of Doolan and have not been conceding goals lately as stated. This could be a tight affair. Go for under 2.5 goals with Unibet at 9/10.
There were 17 corners in Caley Thistle's last game at Queen's Park so bet365's 5/4 on over ten on Friday looks a good call.
