MANAGERLESS Hibs entertain Motherwell on Wednesday in the capital after they finally fired under-fire boss Nick Montgomerie this week.
It's supposed to be an emotional send-off for Hibs legends Lewis Stevenson and Paul Hanlon who have played over 1,100 game for the club combined.
But Hibs' 4-0 trouncing from Aberdeen at home on Sunday meant it was going to be a night of toxicity for Montgomery – who only just survived a vote of confidence last month – until they pulled the plug on Tuesday.
Motherwell must be wishing the season won't end after going goal crazy in their last two games. They put the final nail in the coffin of Livingston last week with a 4-1 win at home.
And they produced one of their best displays of the season with a stunning 5-1 win in the Highlands at the home of a Ross County side who had recently defeated Rangers, Hearts and Hibs in Dingwall.
Given the fact Well went 15 games without a win earlier this season, they have actually ended up having a decent season and have cause for optimism for next term.
How the bookies view it: Hibs still odds-on jollies
Hibs are odds-on here with bet365 at 5/6, but they have drifted unsurprisingly after Sunday with Motherwell backed into 3/1. The draw is 11/4.
Recent head to heads: Not much between them
There has been three meetings between the teams this season and two of them have been draws, with the last one seeing Well snatch a late equaliser that ended Hibs' hopes of reaching the top six.
Motherwell won the other game at Fir Park and no team in this picture has won it by more than a goal in the past 11 meetings
Players to watch:
Dylan Vente's all round play is admired by Hibs fans, although his goal return of eight for a striker is something of a disappointment considering Hibs forked out a decent fee for the Dutchman last summer. He is 15/8 to score anytime on Wednesday.
Blair Spittal will be a huge loss for Motherwell next season after signing a pre-contract with Hearts. His double at the weekend took his tally to a respectable 13 for the season. He is 15/4 to score anytime.
Probable line-ups:
Hibs are set to be without Will Fish and Lewis Miller and Well are missing Adam Devine, Adam Montgomery, Jon Obika and Callum Slattery.
HIBERNIAN: Wollacott, Cadden, Bushiri, Hanlon, Stevenson, Marcondes, Moriah-Welsh, Newell, Boyle, Vente, Myziane.
MOTHERWELL: Kelly, O’Donnell, McGinn, Cassy, Blaney, Gent, Halliday, Miller, Nicholson, Spittal, Bair.
Anything else catch the eye? Goals in the capital
With little really at stake and Hibs now without a manager, these are two teams who like to attack and there should be goals at both ends here. Motherwell in particular are ending the season in goalscoring style.
Both teams to score in the first half looks good value here at 7/2 with bet365, with surely Hibs producing some kind of reaction from Sunday's disgrace.
Well have been written off here and you would need to be a brave man backing Hibs at odds-on, but they can score at Easter Road and don't be surprised if it's more than one. Back them to net two or more at 9/4 against a Hibs defence who are clearly far from watertight.
