Grimsby vs Man United

, KO: 20:00 , Blundell Park
Man United

Grimsby will play one of the biggest games in their history on Wednesday, 27 August, when they welcome Manchester United to Blundell Park.

The hosts haven't played the giants of English football in more than 70 years, and a packed house is expected on Wednesday night.

For Manchester United, the game is also a welcome one as they look to pick up their first win of the new season.

How the bookies view it: The hosts are massive underdogs

Grimsby are understandably considered huge outsiders for the clash against Man United, and BoyleSports have priced a home win at 14/1. Meanwhile, a victory for the visitors inside 90 minutes has been priced at 1/7, and a draw, which would take us to a penalty shootout, has been priced at 13/2.

Head to head: A first meeting since the 1940s

Wednesday night's clash is the first between Grimsby and Manchester United since 1948, which makes this truly feel like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Grimsby's fans and players alike. The Mariners boast a good overall H2H record against Man United, with 15 wins from 37 attempts.

Players to watch: Sesko to be unleashed

After picking up just one point from their first two league matches, this is an opportunity for some fringe Man Utd players to stake their claim for a place in the starting XI for the Premier League match against Burnley on Saturday.

At the front of the queue is Benjamin Sesko, who joined the club from RB Leipzig this summer for more than £70m. The 22-year-old has been limited to two substitute appearances so far but should get his first start here, and given the level of defenders he will be up against, he will fancy his chances of getting on the scoresheet.

Back in midfield, Kobbie Mainoo should make his first appearance of the season. The 20-year-old appears to be out of favour with Ruben Amorim, but a strong performance at Blundell Park could see him move up the pecking order, especially as Man Utd have experienced midfield issues this season.

For the hosts, Jaze Kabia comes into the match in brilliant form. The centre forward has already netted four times this season, and he will be desperate to be able to add a goal against Manchester United to his CV.

Predicted line-ups

Both managers are missing a couple of players each through injuries, with Jason Svanthorsson and Sam Lavelle out for Grimsby, and Noussair Mazraoui and Lisandro Martinez missing for Man United. Beyond that, Grimsby are expected to play their strongest XI, while Man Utd will make several changes.

Grimsby: Pym – Rodgers, Warren, McJannet, Staunton – Amaluzor, McEachran, Khouri, Turi, Burns –  Kabia

Man United: Onana – Heaven, Maguire, Fredricson – Dalot, Ugarte, Mainoo, Amass – Mount, Zirkzee – Seskso

Anything else catch the eye?

Grimsby have had a strong start to the season, going unbeaten across their first six competitive matches of the season. While this match is undoubtedly a step up on what they are used to, the confidence they have from this start, compared with Man Utd's nervousness due to theirs, will play a part. Both teams to score at 6/5 with Boyle Sports looks a great price.
