DUNDEE are starting to justify their status as SPFL Championship title favourites and head into this clash with Greenock Morton knowing a victory could take them back above Queen's Park at the summit.
The Dark Blues dismantled Cove 3-0 at Dens last Sunday, moving them just a point behind the Spiders with a game in hand. Now they head to Cappielow and it could be a pivotal Friday night in the title race, with Queen's also in action at home to in-form Raith Rovers.
Gary Bowyer looks to have the strongest squad in the division and the Dark Blues have lost just one of their last 17 games inside 90 minutes. Even that defeat was a bit unlucky, with Dundee battling back from 2-0 down against Arbroath with 10 men before eventually losing 4-2.
Every match in the Championship is a difficult challenge, however, and Morton will be looking to fire themselves back into the mix for automatic promotion with a massive victory.
Dougie Imrie's side ended their eight-game run without a win by beating Queen's Park 3-2 last weekend and another victory here would move Ton just five points behind Dundee. Cappielow is never an easy venue to visit and if the Dark Blues slip up it would fire the title race wide open once more.
How the bookies view it
Dundee's red-hot form makes them favourites for this one at 13/10 with Betfred while Greenock Morton are 21/10 at Bet365. I wouldn't be too surprised if this one ended level and the draw pays 41/17 at VBet.
Recent head to head
Armchair fans will be hoping this clash is a big improvement on the first two meetings this season, with both those matches ending in 0-0 draws. Five of the last six clashes have been stalemates, with Dundee winning the other game 1-0. Ton have been strong at Cappielow, though, going unbeaten in their last five at home against the Dark Blues.
Players to watch
George Oakley has hit the ground running at Morton since his move from Inverness, netting three times in his first two games. The striker is 5/2 at Paddy Power for anytime scorer which looks decent value.
Extending Zach Robinson's loan from MK Dons could help Dundee get over the line in the title race. He netted off the bench at the weekend and should start here, with Robinson 7/4 at SkyBet for anytime scorer.
Anything else catch the eye?
Even though we've yet to see a goal in games between these sides this season, I can see there being a few thrills in this one. Going for goals paid off for me when Dundee drew 2-2 with Raith in the Trust Trophy recently and over 2.5 strikes has landed in the last four for Morton. That bet pays 43/40 here with Bet365 while the same firm price BTTS at 5/6.
With so many recent meetings ending level, the half-time draw is another good option and that pays 11/10 at McBookie. Over 11 corners has come up in both clashes this season and that bet pays 6/5 with Bet365 here.
