Faroe Islands vs Scotland

, KO: 19:45 Oct 12, 2021, Torsvollur
Scotland

WORLD CUP fever has gripped the Tartan Army after that epic win over Israel but it will disappear faster than you can say ‘Ally MacLeod' if Steve Clarke's boys slip up in the Faroe Islands.

A play-off spot is within reach after successive wins over Austria and the Israelis fired the Scots four points clear in second place in Group F.

Victories in the Faroes then Moldova will seal the deal, although it would be typically Scottish if we stumbled on the home straight against one of the group's lesser lights.

However, you get the feeling this squad of players are made of sterner stuff after bouncing back from adversity several times in that rollercoaster Hampden victory on Saturday.

It was a great day for the MFT team as all six of my tips landed and Mark also brought up a full house in his Match Preview.

We both thought there would be a lot of goalmouth action but this clash in Torshavn could be very different as it will tough to break down the Faroes defence.

Denmark have blitzed every team in the group but even they could only win by a single goal in the Faroes while Austria ground out a 2-0 victory there at the weekend.

How the bookies view it

Scotland are hot favourites and their best price is 1/3 with SportNation while the Faroes are as big as 25/2 with SBK who price the stalemate at 25/4.

Head to head

Scotland have history for slipping up in the Faroes, most notably when they had to come from 2-0 down to salvage a point in Berti Vogts' first competitive game as boss in 2002.

They also drew 1-1 in Toftir under Craig Brown back in 1999 but it has been more stress-free of late with the Scots winning the last four meetings.

When these nations met at Hampden earlier in the group, Clarke's side eased to a 4-0 victory (below).

Players to watch

Lyndon Dykes has netted in his last three games for Scotland, although the QPR striker will be off the penalties after his horrendous effort was saved by Israel's Ofir Marciano on Saturday. He has become something of a talisman for Clarke's side and Dykes (below) is 7/5 with Bet365 for anytime scorer.

Klaemint Olsen scored one of the goals when the Faroes beat Moldova at home and the Runavik striker is 19/4 with McBookie to net against the Scots.

Anything else catch the eye?

The Faroes have drawn a blank at home against the Danes, Austria and Israel so a Scots win to nil appeals here at 10/11 with SBK. The clean sheet for Clarke's side on its own is also decent for accas at 4/6 with the same firm.

Clarke's side will be desperate for an early goal to ease the nerves and I fancy them to score in the first half. Backing Scotland to be winning at half-time and full-time pays 11/10 with SportNation.

Scotland haven't been high scorers on the road under Clarke and I like the look of 2-3 match goals for this one at evens with Bet365.
