DUNDEE a hurtling towards a Championship return and their relegation from the SPFL Premiership will be confirmed if they fail to beat Hibernian at Dens Park.
The decision to axe James McPake and replace him with Mark McGhee in February has proved to be disastrous for the Dark Blues, with the new manager still waiting on his first win.
It looked like performances were picking up a bit when the Premiership split in two but they have crashed to defeats in their last two games against Aberdeen and St Mirren without even scoring a goal.
That has left McGhee's men six points adrift of St Johnstone with just two games to play so it's surely just a case of when, not if, they return to the second tier.
Hibernian have nothing to play for after the disappointment of missing out on the top six and losing to bitter rivals Hearts in the Scottish Cup semi-final.
That blow resulted in Shaun Maloney being sacked and it has been a mixed bag so far under caretaker David Gray, with one win, one draw and one defeat.
They came from behind to draw at home to Aberdeen on Saturday, ruining one of my Super Singles, so at least the players are still showing some fight in these meaningless last few games of the season.
How the bookies view it
Dundee are 14/5 outsiders with Bet365 to get the win that will stave off the drop for at least another 24 hours. Hibernian are 6/5 at SkyBet for a victory while the draw pays 12/5 at Betway.
Recent head to head
Hibs have a great record against Dundee and are unbeaten in the last 13 matches since a 3-1 Dens defeat almost 10 years ago. But two of their three meetings this season have been draws, including a 0-0 snorefest when the Hibees came calling in March.
Goals were in short supply in that match but fans were treated to a 2-2 thriller at Dens back in August (below) when both sets of fans were still full of optimism and unaware of the misery ahead.
Players to watch
Charlie Adam will be desperate to atone for his comical blunder at the weekend and the boyhood Dundee fan won't go down without a fight. The midfielder is 7/1 for anytime scorer at Paddy Power and that looks a bit overpriced.
Elias Melkersen has scored just twice for Hibs since arriving from Bodo/Glimt but still looks a decent prospect. The young Norwegian is 11/5 at Bet365 for anytime scorer.
Anything else catch the eye?
I've backed BTTS in Dundee's last two outings as they were must-win games and McGhee side had to go for it. But a combination of poor finishing and good goalkeeping saw the Dark Blues draw blanks each time to bust my coupon.
Hibernian haven't been scoring a lot of goals either and that's why under 2.5 goals is just 13/20 at Unibet for this one while BTTS no is a best 20/23 at Betfair and 17/20 at BetVictor.
Dundee should be on the front foot at the start and that makes the evens on offer at Bet365 for them to win the first corner a good option.
All three of Gray's games since taking charge have seen a half-time draw and betting on a repeat here pays 21/20 at Bet365.
