Denmark begin their campaign in the Euro 2024 qualifiers with a Group H clash with Finland. The Danes will fancy their chances of winning the entire group and should have too much for the visitors.
Denmark come into this campaign looking to put their disappointing showing at the Qatar 2022 World Cup behind them. Highly fancied to reach the knockout phase following a solid qualifying run, they failed to win a single match and crashed out during the group stage.
The Danes will view Thursday’s clash as a fresh start and given the other teams in the group, will fancy their chances of automatic qualification. The good news is that Kasper Hjulmand’s men often do well in qualifiers and finished top of their group during the campaign for Qatar 2022.
A good start is likely to set the tone for Denmark during these qualifiers and will be looking to get things rolling in front of their fans. They have won seven of their last eight home matches across all competitions, keeping six clean sheets in that run.
Having missed out on the World Cup, Thursday’s clash will not be the first taste of action for Finland in 2023. They featured in two Friendlies in January, losing 2-0 to Sweden before suffering a 1-0 defeat to Estonia.
Both results mean Finland have now claimed just two wins in their last 13 matches across all competitions, a run stretching back to 2021. Markku Kanerva’s men have struggled to find their cutting edge in attack as evidenced by the two defeats in January.
Finland have also not been all that convincing on their travels with just one win in their last five away matches across all competitions. However, they have drawn their last two away matches playing out 1-1 scorelines with North Macedonia and Norway back in November.
How the bookies view it
Denmark are considered overwhelming favourites among the bookies with a home win priced at 1/3 by William Hill. A victory for Finland is valued at 11/1 by bet365 while a draw is set at odds of 4/1 by Unibet.
Head to head
Denmark have a 6-1 advantage with two draws from nine previous matches against Finland. However, the Finns only win was a 1-0 victory in the opening fixture of Euro 2020.
Players to watch
Denmark have some attacking quality in their team with the likes of Marcus Igvartsen and Martin Braithwaite in good form for their respective clubs this season. Both men can combine to ensure Denmark produce over 1.5 goals at 3/5 with BetVictor.
The Danes are also solid at the other end of the pitch and have kept clean sheets in six of their last seven fixtures at Parken. Andreas Christensen and Simon Kjaer will be the ones to watch at the back and can lead the hosts to another clean sheet at 4/7 with bet365.
Anything else catch the eye?
Given Denmark’s solid defence and with Finland struggling for goals this year, the hosts can be tipped to earn a win to nil at 20/23 with BetVictor. The Danes are expected to be comfortable on Thursday and can be backed in the -1 handicap market at 11/10 with Paddy Power.
With Denmark expected to be dominant at home, they can be backed to score in both halves at 13/10 with BoyleSports.
