Czech Republic are still in the running for a playoff finish and host Estonia in their final Group E fixture in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. The Czechs have maintained a solid home record throughout the campaign and should see off the struggling Estonians.
Czech Republic were not in action in the qualifiers last Saturday and warned up for the visit of Estonia with a 7-0 friendly victory over Kuwait. Jakub Pesek and Jan Sykora both had a brace while Tomas Soucek was also on target.
In the qualifiers, the Czechs claimed a 2-0 victory over Belarus in their previous fixture with Patrik Schick and Adam Hlozek getting the goals. They are third on the table, three points behind Wales and require a heavy victory on Tuesday along with a defeat for the Welsh team to secure a playoff spot.
Manager Jaroslav Silhavy will be banking on his team’s home form as Czech Republic are unbeaten in front of their fans throughout the qualifiers. However, they are seeking only their second win on home soil following a 1-0 victory over Belarus back in September.
Estonia are set to finish only above Belarus in the group after claiming just one win from their last seven qualifying matches. They were beaten 3-1 by Belgium last time out in the campaign with Erik Sorga’s goal midway through the second half proving to be a mere consolation.
The defeat to Belgium was the fifth in the campaign for Estonia, who often struggle to match up to Europe’s elite. Thomas Haberli’s men are winless on the road in the qualifiers and were beaten 4-2 by Belarus before the defeat to Belgium last time out.
Estonia have struggled defensively throughout the qualifiers, conceding 19 goals in just seven matches. They have also been on the receiving end of some heavy defeats and were beaten 6-2 by Czech Republic in the reverse fixture.
How the bookies view it
Czech Republic are considered overwhelming favourites among the bookies with a home win priced at 1/8 by bet365. betfair is offering odds of 40/1 for an unlikely Estonia victory while a draw is valued at 21/2 by Unibet.
Head to head
Czech Republic have won all four previous matches against Estonia. They claimed a 6-2 victory in the reverse fixture back in March with Tomas Soucek netting a hat-trick.
Players to watch
Striker Patrik Schick is currently out injured, so much of Czech Republic’s goals have come from midfield in recent times with Jakub Pesek and Tomas Soucek among the goals lately. Pesek is priced at 11/5 by bet365 to score anytime while Skybet is offering 15/8 on Soucek in the same market.
The Czechs have not been particularly convincing at the back and conceded twice in the reverse fixture against Estonia. Midfielder Erik Sorga has found the net twice in his last three matches and is priced at 15/2 by Paddy Power to find the net on Tuesday.
Anything else catch the eye?
Czech Republic’s previous home fixture in the qualifiers produced over 3.5 goals and Tuesday’s clash could be tipped to follow a similar pattern at 6/5 with betfair. Having claimed a 6-2 victory in the reverse fixture, the Czechs could be tipped in the -2 handicap market at 10/11 with Sporting Index.
There were goals for both teams in the reverse fixture and a repeat could be on the cards at 28/13 with 10bet.
