Celtic vs St Mirren

, KO: 12:30 , Parkhead
St Mirren

Celtic host St Mirren in what will be a party day for them and their fans on the final day of the season.

But while the actual outcome of the match will mean nothing to the champions, it means everything for the Paisley side who could yet gain a fifth place spot and a European place.

St Mirren produced a fantastic comeback to continue their excellent form post-split to rescue a point at hme to Hibs on Wednesday.

That took them to within a point of Dundee United – who were an incredible nine points of Saints going into the split.

They are four goals worse off than United so realistically they need to win at Parkhead…and that's easier said than done.

The Hoops have romped to another title which was never really in doubt and will be presented with the trophy to spark off the usual celebrations.

And the bad news for Saints is that their second string romped to an easy win at Aberdeen in midweek with a 5-1 romp that could have been more.

They are relentless and it's going to take an enormous effort from Saints to ruin the party.

How the bookies view it: Celtic huge favourites as usual

Despite St Mirren's need for the win, they are 10/1 underdogs with Boylesports. Celtic are massive 2/11 favourites and the draw is 11/2.

Recent head to heads: Celtic going for Saints clean sweep

Celtic have swept St Mirren away this season with three wins out of three and have scored 11 goals past them in the process.

In fact, they have won the last eight meetings between the sides and Saints haven't won at Parkhead since 2021.

Players to watch: All or nothing for Forrest

Celtic have been trying everything to get James Forrest score for them which would be for a record 16th season in a row. He came so close at Pittodrie and is worth a wager here at 11/8 to score anytime with Boylesports.

Richard Taylor was the man who started the Saints fightback against Hibs in midweek and he is always a threat from set pieces. He is a huge 28/1 to score anytime with Boylesports.

Predicted line-ups:

Celtic are without Jota for nine months. Expect Kasper Schmechel to return in goal and a more familiar line-up.

St Mirren are set to bring back captain Mark O'Hara after a hamstring injury.

Celtic: Schmeichel, Johnston, Carter-Vickers, Scales, Taylor, Hatate, Engels, McGregor, Maeda, Idah, Forrest.

St Mirren: Hemming, Fraser, Gogic, Taylor, Alebiosu, Phillips, O'Hara, Idowu. John, Mandron, Ayunga.

Anything else catch the eye?

As much as it's tempting to try and find a way to get onboard with a Saints side whose need is far greater than a Celtic team with their party hats on, it's impossible to back against Celtic at the moment.

If anything they seem to be finishing the season even stronger. Saints need to have a go here and that nearly always leaves gaps. They could easily score though and the call – as it was in midweek against Aberdeen – is a Celtic win and both teams to score at 7/5.

In a similar token, back the hosts to win and over 3.5 goals, also at 7/5. This should be an entertaining climax to the season.
