ON Sunday morning, the match that nobody wants to play in – the Copa America third-place playoff – will take place at the Bank of America Stadium in North Carolina.
The two unlucky losers taking part on Sunday are Canada and Uruguay after both sides failed to come through their respective semi-finals.
Canada were comfortably beaten by Argentina while Uruguay lost a brutal match to Colombia, despite having a man advantage for the entire second half.
Who will come out on top on Sunday and claim third prize at this year's Copa America? Here is our Canada vs Uruguay prediction.
How the bookies view it: Uruguay are backed to win
The bookmakers believe that Uruguay will come out on top on Sunday morning, despite the possibility of bans for some of their players after a mass brawl broke out after their semi-final defeat. Marcelo Bielsa's men are priced at 1/2 with Betfred to get the job done inside 90 minutes while Canada are priced at 5/1. The draw, and therefore extra time, is priced at 11/4.
Recent head-to-head: Advantage Uruguay
We shouldn't read too much into the Canada vs Uruguay H2H given that these two nations have only ever played each other on two previous occasions. Uruguay won both of those matches, with the first coming in 1986 and the second coming two years in an international friendly. Canada have only scored one goal against Uruguay in their history.
Players to watch: The end of an era for el Pistolero
Luis Suarez has played a passive role at the 2024 Copa America with Marcelo Bielsa looking to his younger stars to take the lead throughout the tournament. However, given that Sunday night will be his final chance to represent his country at a Copa America, the 37-year-old could given a start.
Suarez has had a fabulous playing career and will retire as Uruguay's record goalscorer. Although Darwin Nunez has been brilliant for Uruguay over the past year, he still has a lot of work to do to get close to the heights Suarez reached during his peak years.
A brace on Sunday would take him to 70 international goals and you wouldn't bet against him turning back the clock one more time.
Predicted lineups
Marcelo Bielsa could have a major problem to deal with if CONMEBOL are decisive in handing out bans to Darwin Nunez and Rodrigo Bentancur. The pair were caught up in a fight with Colombia fans after their semi-final defeat so could miss this one altogether.
Canada will be without Tajon Buchanan after the Inter Milan man broke his tibia in training earlier in the tournament. Jesse Marsch could also use this match to take a look at some of the younger members of the squad.
Canada: Crepeau – Johnston, Miller, Bombito, Davies – Laryea, Osorio, Eustaquio, Shaffelburg – Larin, David
Uruguay: Rochet – Varela, Gimenez, Olivera, Vina – Ugarte, Valverde – Pellistri, De la Cruz, Araujo – Suarez
