Brighton and Hove Albion vs Newcastle United
English Premier League, KO: 17:30 Nov 6, 2021, AMEX StadiumNEWCASTLE'S controversial takeover hasn't gone to plan so far with the Magpies still waiting on their first victory heading into this clash with Brighton.
Eddie Howe is now set to take charge at St James' after moves for Paulo Fonseca and Unai Emery hit the buffers but it looks like he will have to agree to a clause that allows them to be binned if the Magpies are relegated.
That threat remains real with Newcastle sitting second bottom heading into the weekend and six points adrift of safety. Chelsea battered them 3-0 last weekend, helping to bring up my handicap bet, and the Tyneside flops need to rediscover form and confidence quickly.
Brighton have been used to battling relegation in recent seasons but have made a storming start to the new campaign with the Seagulls sitting in seventh place.
Graham Potter's methods are really starting to pay off and his side came from 2-0 down at Anfield last weekend to claim a deserved point as another bet builder came up for Slips Tips.
But it's six games since they last tasted victory, with five of those matches ending level, so Brighton will be looking to get back on track with a win over struggling Newcastle.
How the bookies view it
It says everything about Newcastle's malaise that they are 5/1 outsiders with most firms for a win on the south coast. The 33/50 SBK offer on Brighton looks way too short for a team without a win in six while the draw will appeal to punters at 3/1 with Unibet given the Seagulls' recent run of stalemates.
Recent head to head
Brighton have been a bogey team for the Magpies in recent seasons and have gone eight games without defeat in this fixture. Potter's team were particularly dominant last season, winning 3-0 at St James' then repeating the trick at the AMEX (below).
Players to watch
Leandro Trossard impressed as Brighton's central striker at Anfield after switching from his usual position out wide and claimed a deserved goal. I'd expect him to continue to lead the line and the Belgian is 7/2 with SBK for anytime scorer.
Allan Saint-Maximin has gone five games without a goal for Newcastle but is too talented for that drought to go on. The maverick Frenchman is 5/1 with Bet365 for anytime scorer which looks a bit overpriced.
Anything else catch the eye?
Newcastle have kept just one clean sheet all season while Brighton have conceded eight in their last three games so it bodes well for some goals. BTTS pays evens with Betfred, which looks good value, while over 2.5 goals is a tiny bit shorter at 28/29 with SBK.
Newcastle stopper Ciaran Clark has two yellows from nine appearances this season so it could pay to back him for a card at 13/4 with Unibet.
