Brentford vs Brighton and Hove Albion

, KO: 15:00 , Gtech Community Stadium
Brighton and Hove Albion

Brentford and Brighton are both in the mix for European football next season but if the Bees lose at home to Seagulls in this Premier League clash it will leave them facing an uphill struggle.

Brighton and Hove Albion sit just one place above 11th-placed Brentford but the gap is five points so a win for Fabian Hurzeler's side in this one would leave their hosts needing snookers.

The Seagulls are only seven points off the pace for a Champions League slot in a congested top half of the table but their form has dipped at a bad time, going five games without a win in all competitons.

They had a perfect chance to get back on track at the weekend as doomed Leicester came calling but the Foxes claimed a surprise 2-2 draw as backing BTTS paid off for me.

Injuries in defence haven't helped their cause and Brentford will fancy their chances after drawing 1-1 at Arsenal last weekend, busting the coupon of our man Adam.

But Thomas Frank's men have also won just once in their last six outings so they need to find a cutting edge again too.

How the bookies view it: Nothing in it

This is a tough one to call with neither side in particularly good form and it's reflected in the odds. Brentford are BoyleSports' slight favourites at 7/5, with Brighton 17/10 shots and the draw paying 12/5.

Recent head to head: Blank looks all round

There hasn't been much entertainment on offer in the last two meetings, with both those matches ending in 0-0 draws. Five of the last 11 meetings have ended level, with four Brighton wins and two Brentford victories during that run.

Players to watch: No ordinary Joao

Joao Pedro scored a pair of penalties against Leicester last weekend to take his tally for the season into double figures. The Brazilian will be a threat for Brighton and is 15/8 for anytime scorer.

Brentford's front two of Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo have been ripping it up all season, with no other team boasting two players with 15 Premier League goals or more in this campaign. They will fancy their chances against Brighton's weakened defence and Mbeumo is slightly bigger at 7/4 for a goal, with Wissa priced at 13/8.

Probable line-ups

Brentford's treatment room is beginning to clear but they still have Josh Dasilva, Igor Thiago, Aaron Hickey and Fabio Carvalho sidelined.

Brighton were so short of bodies in defence last week that they had to play midfielder Carlos Baleba in the backline. Tariq Lamptey, Igor Julio, Adam Webster and Joel Veltman are set to miss out again along with Kaoru Mitoma, Ferdi Kadioglu, James Milner, Jason Steele and Georginio Rutter. But stopper Jean Paul van Hecke is back after a ban.

Brentford: Flekken, Van den Berg, Ajer, Collins, Norgaard, Schade, Janelt, Lewis-Potter, Damsgaard, Wissa, Mbeumo.

Brighton and Hove Albion: Verbruggen, Dunk, Estupinan, Van Hecke, Ayari, O'Riley, Hinshelwood, Baleba, Adingra, Minte, J Pedro.

Anything else catch the eye?

These teams have drawn a blank in the last two meetings but I'd be surprised if that trend continued here. Brighton's injury-hit defence was breached twice by shot-shy Leicester last weekend so Brentford's superior attack could get some joy.

BoyleSports price over 1.5 Bees goals at 10/11 and adding on the home win boosts those odds to 15/8. Brighton have plenty of firepower too so BTTS and no draw also appeals at 23/20.

The last two meetings have averaged just two cards so it could also pay to bet against busy day for the ref. Under 1.5 Brentford cards pays 11/8 at Bet365 while betting against both teams picking up a card is 11/4 with the same firm.
