HIBERNIAN will be looking to get their Scottish League Cup campaign back on track when they travel to Bonnyrigg Rose on Sunday afternoon.
Lee Johnson’s side slumped to a shock 1-0 defeat at Falkirk on a Tuesday, on a night where one of my card bets copped.
That setback was a sobering reality check for the Easter Road outfit following their 5-0 romp to victory against Clyde last weekend.
As such, the Hibees can ill-afford to drop any more points if they are to secure top spot in the section.
Meanwhile, Bonnyrigg Rose kicked off their league cup campaign with an eye-catching 2-1 win at Clyde in midweek.
The Scottish League Two new boys have high hopes for their maiden season in the SPFL and they will be keen to make a real statement against top tier opposition.
Outright Betting
Bonnyrigg Rose are big underdogs at 18/1 with Bet 365 while an all square affair after 90 minutes is an unfancied 7/1 with PaddyPower.
Despite losing to lower league opposition last time out, Hibernian make the short trip across the city as red-hot 1/8 favourites with Bet 365.
Betting Angles
As the odds suggest, an away success is the most likely outcome, but to boost the price, I'll head to the Bet Builder market and combine Hibs to win, under five match goals and over zero Bonnyrigg Rose cards at 10/11 (Bet 365).
Lee Johnson and Co will know there is little room for error in the coming games and they should make their superior class tell on Sunday.
While Bonnyrigg are easily written off, I believe they can keep this cup tie more competitive than the pre-match odds suggest on account of their fine form over the last 12 months or so.
What's more, Robbie Horn's hosts are bound to be right up for this one and it goes without saying that hey will be desperate to avoid a humbling in front of a sell-out home crowd.
As such, I'm happy to side with a Hibs win and under five match strikes, but to round off the Bet Builder, I'll throw at least one Bonnyrigg booking into the mix.
The Hibees have drawn at least one card from each of their Group D opponents thus far and I fancy that trend to continue here given that the Leith outfit should have the lion share of possession.
Elsewhere, I'll also dip into the goalscorer market and have a speculative punt on Christian Doidge to score two or more goals at 4/1 with William Hill.
The Hibs striker hit a hat-trick against Clyde last weekend and given that goal difference could come into the qualification equation, the Welshman looks worthy of some interest to bag a brace at New Dundas Park.
