Bayern Munich welcome Werder Bremen as the only remaining team with a flawless record in the Bundesliga and ambitions to break even more records with another statement win.
The champions made a statement last weekend when they broke the Bundesliga record for most goals scored in the first four rounds (now 18), meaning this is the strongest start in the history of the German top flight. While it is early in the season, for now it feels like the best other teams could hope for is 2nd place, as the Bavarians are on a different level. Kompany’s side won all seven matches this season, most recently beating Chelsea 3-1 and Hoffenheim 4-1.
After narrowly missing out on European football last season, Werder Bremen find themselves on the wrong side of the table after an early exit from the DFB Cup and a single win in four Bundesliga rounds. While the River Islanders had one of the hardest schedules to date, nothing can justify conceding 3+ goals in 3/4 league games. Werder are already in a horrible position but Bayern Munich intend to make it worse.
How the bookies view it: Extreme gap between the two sides
It’s almost pointless to discuss Bayern Munich’s odds, unless you intend to risk betting on the visitors. The champions are available at just 1/10, while Werder Bremen’s unlikely triumph has been priced at 20/1. Even the odds for the draw are extreme – 9/1.
Recent head-to-head: Bayern scored 8 goals last season
Few teams in the Bundesliga can boast wins over Bayern Munich in recent years and Werder Bremen are no different. Apart from that 1-0 away in 2024, the River Islanders lost eight of the last 10 H2Hs, often by huge margins. For example, the two clashes last season were particularly difficult experiences for Werder, as they lost 5-0 at home and 3-0 away. And the bad news is the Bavarians are in much better form right now.
Players to watch: Sit back and wait for Kane to score
We usually try to stay away from Harry Kane but he now averages 2.29 goal contributions per match. With 13 goals and three assists in seven matches across all competitions, the England international has hit the headlines after every fixture. He has scored a brace in five out of seven matches and we believe it's quite possible we see it against Werder too. He was involved in five of the eight goals scored against this rival last season.
Probable line-ups
Bayern Munich: Neuer, Guerreiro, Tah, Upamecano. Laimer, Pavlovic, Kimmich, Diaz, Gnabry, Olise, Kane
Werder Bremen: Backhaus, Coulibaly, Sugawara, Friedl, Agu, Lynen, Stage, Puertas, Schmid, Njinmah, Grull
Anything else catch the eye?
All three of Bayern Munich’s home matches this season featured at least four goals. Even Chelsea couldn’t escape the thrashing and lost 3-1 at the Allianz Arena last week. Werder Bremen have conceded 10 goals in four matches this season, and the Bavarians will not forgive any mistakes in defence.
We expect 3-4 goals from Bayern Munich again, and while the River Islanders may find the net too, we are more inclined to believe that the Bavarians will keep a clean sheet again.
