BAYERN MUNICH were steady instead of spectacular as they returned to Bundesliga action and will be looking to move up a few gears in their Eintracht Frankfurt revenge mission.
The champions were heavy favourites away to Union Berlin last weekend and lived up to their billing as a 2-0 win restored their four-point lead over Dortmund at the top.
That made it seven wins in a row for Bayern in all competitions and it looks like they mean business as they bid to stay ahead of the chasing pack and rack up yet another title.
It's hard to see them slipping up against a Frankfurt side who have now lost three on the spin after going down 3-1 against Monchengladbach last weekend.
And Bayern have added motivation as they seek to avenge a horror 5-1 thrashing by Eintracht earlier in the season, a humiliating defeat that helped push Niko Kovac towards the exit door.
I steered clear of tipping a winner in Frankfurt's clash with Monchengladbach and instead went for goals, with my tips of over 3.5 goals and both teams to score coming up. But with Bayern having kept a clean sheet in their last five games, there might be only one team on the scoresheet here.
How the bookies view it
Eintracht are rank outsiders for this one, with William Hill pricing them at a massive 18/1. Given the strange circumstances, with no fans and players still searching for fitness, a few punters might be tempted to take a nibble at that price.
But from what we saw last weekend Bayern should win quite comfortably and justify their status as favourites, with their best price 1/6 at Bet365. The draw pays 17/2 with Betfair but I will be backing a Bayern win to nil at 21/20 with Sportingbet.
Recent head to head
Eintracht stunned the Bundesliga when they walloped 10-man Bayern 5-1 last November (below) and their recent record against the champions is far from the worst.
Frankfurt also defeated Bayern 3-1 in the German Cup two years ago but they have suffered some heavy beatings as well. There was a 5-1 Munich mauling in the league last term and that came after a 5-0 hammering in the German Super Cup.
Their last league win in Munich came 20 years ago, with former Middlesbrough striker Jan-Aage Fjortoft grabbing the winner in a 2-1 triumph.
Players to watch
Deadly Bayern hitman Robert Lewandowski scored last week to make it 44 for the season but he's too short for me in the anytime scorer market here at a best 1/3 with William Hill.
Instead, I'll be backing winger Serge Gnabry (below) who is 21/20 with Ladbrokes to add to his impressive tally of 23 this term.
I flagged up Portugal striker Andre Silva as Frankfurt's biggest threat last weekend and he duly scored their consolation goal against Monchengladbach. He's 16/5 for a goal here and that looks the best bet if Frankfurt are to spring a shock and end Bayern's impressive run of clean sheets.
Anything else catch the eye?
This fixture has delivered plenty of goals, with the last six matches treating fans to 29 strikes in total. That's an average of over four goals a game so it's easy to see why the bookies price over 3.5 goals at a best 8/11 (Paddy Power).
But Bayern might need a few more weeks to get back to their dazzling best so I think under 3.5 goals offers better value at 6/5 with Bet365.
