Atletico Madrid are set to take on Sevilla on Sunday, 8 December with the hosts looking to continue the fine run of form.
Diego Simeone's side have won eight matches on the bounce in all competitions; a run of form that has propelled them back into the title race following a rocky spell for Barcelona.
Sevilla currently find themselves in midtable but have enough quality to provide Atleti with a tough challenge on Sunday night.
How the bookies view it: The hosts start as favourites
Despite this looking like a tricky fixture on paper for Atletico Madrid, they have been priced as the heavy favourites by most bookmakers. Kwiff have priced a home win at 1.36 while a victory for Sevilla has been priced at 6.80. The draw, which would kill Atleti's momentum, has been priced at 4.00.
Recent head-to-head: Advantage Atletico Madrid
In recent years, Atletico Madrid have enjoyed great success in matches against Sevilla with Simeone's men taking full advantage of Los Nervionenses' slump. Atletico have won four of the last five meetings between the two clubs but Sevilla will take some encouragement into the match as they won the most recent encounter 1-0 in February.
Players to watch: Can Alvarez continue his red-hot form?
It's fair to say it took Julian Alvarez a little bit of time to find his best form at Atletico Madrid but the recent signs are very positive for both the 24-year-old and the club.
Atletico spent £81.5m on the Argentinian in the summer but fans have had to remain patient as he's settled into life in Spain. For starters, the tactics he now plays under with Simeone are at odds with everything he learned at Man City under Pep Guardiola, so a bedding-in period was always likely to happen.
He is now starting to understand his teammates more and a connection with Antoine Griezmann is certainly growing. Alvarez has scored four goals and provided one assist in his last three appearances in all competitions and has established himself as the club's number-one dangerman. Can he add to these tallies on Sunday night?
Predicted line-ups
Atletico Madrid are missing two players for this one with Thomas Lemar and Nahuel Molina both in the treatment room. Several players will come back into the team after being rested in the Copa del Rey. Sevilla are in a similar boat with Tanguy Nianzou and Chidera Ejuke their only injured players. Saul Niguez will also miss out as he is on loan at the club from Atletico.
Atletico Madrid: Oblak – Llorente, Gimenez, Lenglet, Galan – De Paul, Gallagher, Simeone, Barrios – Griezmann, Alvarez
Sevilla: A.Fernandez – Carmona, Bade, Salas, Pedrosa – Lokonga, Sow, Gudelj – Lukebakio, Romero, P.Fernandez
Anything else catch the eye?
Although Atletico Madrid has been scoring goals at a decent rate of late, it is difficult to ignore what recent encounters between these two clubs have been like. Each of the last three clashes between Atletico Madrid and Sevilla have finished in a 1-0 win (twice to Atletico and once for Sevilla). Atletico Madrid to win 1-0 on Sunday has been priced at 4.75 by Kwiff.
