Arsenal vs Newcastle

, KO: 16:30 , Emirates Stadium
Newcastle

Newcastle United have the chance to jump above Arsenal into second place in the Premier League with a win at the Emirates as they bid to end a memorable campaign in style.

This season will already go down in the history books after Eddie Howe's men ended a 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy by getting their hands on the League Cup.

But the cherry on the cake would be sealing a place in next season's Champions League as well and the Magpies sit three points clear of sixth-placed Aston Villa with just two games to play.

Last Sunday's 2-0 win over fifth-placed Chelsea, which brought up two bets for me, was massive for Newcastle but the job still isn't done and it won't be easy against an Arsenal side who are looking to secure their own seat at Europe's top table.

The Gunners looked nailed-on for second place a few weeks ago but their run to the Champions League semis had an effect on their domestic form.

Sunday's 2-2 draw at Anfield, which saw two bets land for Slips Tips, made it three Premier League games without a win and Mikel Arteta's men are now looking nervously over their shoulder.

With a trip to doomed Southampton looming on the final day, Arsenal should avoid disaster but Arteta will want to get the job done at home to the Magpies.

How the bookies view it: Gunners to fire again

Despite being in poor form, Arsenal are BoyleSports 20/21 favourites with home advantage. Newcastle United are 13/5 outsiders and the draw pays 5/2.

Recent head to head: Three in a woe for Arsenal

Newcastle have been a bogey team for Arsenal this season, beating them 1-0 in the Premier League at St James' Park then winning both legs of their League Cup semi-final.

But the Gunners have generally been strong at home in this fixture, winning 12 of the last 14 on their own patch.

Players to watch: Saka the inspiration

Bukayo Saka has been saving his goals for the European stage, with the Arsenal winger netting just once in domestic action since December. He's due a Premier League goal and is 15/8 at BoyleSports for anytime scorer.

Arsenal have been long-term admirers of Alexander Isak and the Newcastle star's price tag has soared during his most prolific season. The Swede sits on 32 for the campaign and is 7/4 to add to that tally.

Probable line-ups

Arsenal look set to be without Declan Rice again after the England star missed the draw with Liverpool while midfield sidekick Mikel Merino is suspended. Winger Leandro Trossard is also a doubt after being forced off in that match. Takehiro Tomiyas, Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, Gabriel and Jorginho remain on the sidelines.

Newcastle could be missing Joe Willock, Kieran Trippier, Joelinton and Lewis Hall again while Sven Botman is also injured again. But defender Jamaal Lascelles made his comeback on the bench against Chelsea.

Arsenal: Raya, Timber, Kiwior, Saliba, Lewis-Skelly, Zinchenko, Odegaard, Partey, Martinelli, Saka, Nwaneri.

Newcastle United: Pope, Livramento, Burn, Schar, Murphy, Longstaff, Guimaraes, Tonali, Gordon, Barnes, Isak.

Anything else catch the eye?

BTTS has incredibly come up just once in the last 15 meetings, a 4-1 win for the Gunners at the Emirates last season. I can see this game being a bit cagey so betting against both teams scoring could pay off again at 6/5 with BoyleSports while under 2.5 goals is a bit shorter at evens.

In the last two meetings, Arsenal have won the corner count 13-1 and 11-1. That suggests backing them at -2 in the corner handicap could pay off at 6/5 while over 6.5 Gunners flag kicks also appeals at 5/4.

Newcastle will try to impose their physicality on an Arsenal midfield that looks a bit lightweight without Rice and Merino. Sandro Tonali always gets wired in and looks good value at 11/10 with Bet365 for over 1.5 fouls.
