AC Milan host Lazio in a Serie A fixture on Saturday with both teams continuing their battle for the positions behind Champions Napoli.
Sitting just outside the Champions League places, AC Milan need an upturn in results to jumpstart their push for a top four finish. While they are unbeaten in their last eight matches, five of those fixtures have ended in draws.
AC Milan were held 1-1 by Cremonense in their previous Serie A fixture. They fell behind midway through the second half and had to wait until deep into injury time before Junior Messias struck the equaliser.
The result with Cremonense also highlights AC Milan’s run of draws at the San Siro where they have been held three times in their last four home matches in Serie A. One of the problems for Stefano Pioli’s men is a shaky backline as they have kept just one clean sheet in their last five matches across all competitions.
Lazio travel to the San Siro off the back of a 2-0 victory over Sassuolo in their previous Serie A fixture. They made a fast start and struck early through Felipe Anderson but had to wait until deep into added time before Toma Basic added the second.
It was a welcome return to winning ways for Lazio, who had been beaten by Torino and Inter Milan in their previous two matches. Maurizio Sarri’s men remain second and well on course to securing a Champions League finish.
Although Lazio were beaten 3-1 at Inter Milan prior to the win over Sassuolo, that was their first defeat in seven away matches in Serie A. Among their recent results on the road is a 1-0 victory at Champions Napoli.
How the bookies view it
AC Milan have the upper hand among the bookies with a home win priced at 19/20 by William Hill. A victory for Lazio is valued at 17/5 by Coral while bet365 is offering odds of 13/5 for a draw.
Head to head
AC Milan have a 32-13 advantage with 25 draws from 70 previous matches against AC Milan. However, Lazio ran out 4-0 winners in the reverse fixture back in January with Felipe Anderson among the goals.
Players to watch
With striker Ciro Immobile sidelined, Felipe Anderson has stepped up in recent weeks, scoring in three of the last four matches. The forward was also on target in the reverse fixture and is priced at 13/2 by Unibet to find the net on Sunday.
Rafael Leao is often the liveliest player for AC Milan with much of their attacking play going through the Portuguese forward. He has 12 Serie A goals this season and having also scored in two of the last three meetings with Lazio at San Siro, could be backed to find the net on Saturday at 5/2 with Unibet.
Anything else catch the eye?
AC Milan and Lazio are not particularly convincing at the back and given their attacking quality, both teams could be backed to score at 21/20 with William Hill. The Capital club saw over 3.5 in their previous away fixture and a repeat is valued at 18/5 by BetVictor while over 2.5 goals is priced at 23/18 by 10bet.
Both teams have had a few late showings in recent weeks, so the second half could be tipped to produce more goals at 6/5 with Paddy Power.
