RANGERS travel to an in-form Aberdeen side who will be desperate to grab a rare win over them at Pittodrie.
Barry Robson's Dons have turned a complete car crash of a season around. From losing 11 goals in a week at Hearts and Hibs with a humiliating Scottish Cup exit from a glorified Ayrshire housing scheme when they lost to Darvel in the middle of that run, they have now motored past both of the capital sides and have a five-point advantage over Hearts in third going into this weekend.
It hasn't been rocket science what he's done. He's basically brought in two central defenders in Mattie Pollock and Angus MacDonald who can actually defend and aren't averse into punting the ball into Row Z when needs be.
There's a belief in Scottish football that Aberdeen raise their game when they play Rangers compared to Celtic, but results absolutely do not show that.
In fact, you have to go back seven years since the Dons last defeated Rangers at Pittodrie when a wonder free kick from James Maddison won them the game. Rangers haven't lost in the north east on their last 11 occasions including a gut-wrenching defeat for home fans the last time when Aberdeen somehow managed to concede two goals in injury time to lose.
How the bookies view it
Rangers remain odds-on favourites here at 4/7 with Coral. Aberdeen can be backed at 5/1 with bet365 and the draw is 7/2 with UniBet.
Recent head to heads
As stated, Rangers have an excellent record recently at Pittodrie and are undefeated in their last 11 visits. They have also beaten Aberdeen three times this season including a League Cup semi-final which they won in extra time.
Players to watch
Duk is unsurprisingly attracting plenty of interest and he's enjoyed an outstanding season with Aberdeen. The Cape Verde international is on fire just now with six goals in his last five games. He is 11/5 to score anytime with bet365 and that's of huge interest.
James Tavernier missed a penalty last week after his double at Parkhead and he will be desperate to add to his 100 goals for Rangers. He is 23/10 to score with Paddy Power.
Anything else catch the eye?
Aberdeen have won six games in a row although they haven't played particularly well in their last couple of games. They are a far better team at Pittidrie and even with the absence of midfield terrier Graeme Shinnie, they look a big price with UniBet at 6/4 for the double chance.
Rangers' record at Pittodrie is respected and of course there remains an enormous chasm between the Old Firm and the rest but with a Scottish Cup semi-final coming up next week and key defender Connor Goldson a doubt, the Dons are worth backing here.
There's no love lost between the clubs and fans a teatime kick off on a Sunday has all the ingredients for mayhem. It often boils over. There were ten bookings when they last met at Pittodrie so back over 5.5 cards with UniBet. If one of those cards' colour shown is red, it wouldn't be a surprise either.
