Celtic stuttered to a win in their SPFL Premiership opener last weekend and now head north looking for a more comfortable win as they seek revenge on Aberdeen.
The Dons ruined Brendan Rodgers' bid for an historic third Treble as Hoops boss when they claimed a surprise shoot-out victory in the Scottish Cup Final.
Rodgers has cut a frustrated figure this summer with his board yet to spend big and opting for signings that largely fall in the ‘development' category.
A lack of firepower in attack almost cost them against St Mirren last weekend, with the score locked at 0-0 before substitute Luke McCowan fired home a late, deflected winner.
Aberdeen also proved a tough nut to crack at Hampden in May, with Celtic struggling to create chances, so this is a tough fixture for the Hoops so early in the campaign.
But the Dons didn't look in great shape as they lost 2-0 at Tynecastle on Monday night, with two bets landing for our man Mark and one of our Super Singles also coming up as Hearts claimed a deserved victory.
Jimmy Thelin's stock with the fans is high after that Scottish Cup triumph but he will need to upset the odds again to stop his side from slumping to a second successive defeat in the new campaign.
How the bookies view it: Hoops hot favourites
Even though Celtic weren't at their best last weekend, they are still heavy favourites for a win at just 2/5 with BoyleSports. Aberdeen are 6/1 outsiders and the draw pays 15/4.
Recent head to head: Reds eye Hampden repeat
Thelin's side held the Hoops to a 1-1 draw in the Scottish Cup Final before winning on penalties and also drew 2-2 at Parkhead in their first league meeting last term. But Rodgers' side won the other four meetings, scoring five times or more in three of those matches.
Players to watch: Dons new boy in good Nic
One of the few positives from Aberdeen at Tynecastle was the performance of new boy Nicolas Milanovic. The Aussie winger looked a class act and is 3/1 for anytime scorer. He had a nice shot from distance against Hearts and is 10/1 to score from outside the box.
I tipped Daizen Maeda for a goal last weekend so I was left frustrated when the Celtic winger missed two one-on-ones. He should be sharper with a game under his belt and is 8/5 at Bet365 for anytime scorer here.
Probable line-ups
Celtic looked more threatening when veteran James Forrest came off the bench in their opener. He could replace the hit-and-miss Yang Hyun-jun on the right wing.
Aberdeen new boy Kusini Yengi had a poor debut at Tynecastle and missed a sitter that would have tied the score at 1-1. He could be replaced by Ester Sokler up front.
Aberdeen: Mitov, Jensen, Knoester, Milne, Shinnie, Polvara, Aouchiche, Nilsen, Keskinen, Milanovic, Sokler.
Celtic: Schmeichel, Johnston, Carter-Vickers, Scales, Tierney, McGregor, Hatate, Nygren, Maeda, Forrest, Idah.
Anything else catch the eye?
Thelin tweaked his tactics at Hampden and parked the bus in a bid to frustrate Celtic. It worked so he might be tempted to try the same for this game. So betting against BTTS could be a smart move at 6/5 with BoyleSports while under 2.5 goals is a bit riskier at 8/5.
Going for Celtic corners paid off for me last weekend and they racked up 13 in that Scottish Cup Final loss to the Dons. So over 7.5 Hoops flag kicks could pay off at 11/10 with Bet365 while Celtic -3 in the corner handicap looks safer at evens with the same firm.
Young Dons stopper Jack Milne committed a few fouls against Hearts so he looks worth a punt at 5/1 for a card in this game with Bet365 if Thelin hands him another start.
