AFTER inflicting the shock of the round in the last 16, Lyon look to repeat the feat in the Champions League quarter-final against Man City.
The French side, in only their second competitive fixture in five months, knocked out Juventus on away goals thanks to last week's 2-1 second-leg defeat in Turin.
The rest of the tournament will be played in one-off ties on neutral ground in Portugal and either Barcelona or Bayern Munich await the winners of this last-eight match-up.
Unsurprisingly, Lyon showed signs of rustiness in their Juve showdown, but displayed admirable grit to eliminate the Italian champions.
City, meanwhile, were also impressive as they completed the job against Real Madrid with a 2-1 second-leg win at the Etihad to complete a 4-2 aggregate success.
They are bidding to reach their second Champions League semi-final, having faltered at this stage three times since making the last four in 2016.
Lyon are one of the most favourable draws for Pep Guardiola's men, but the sides' two meetings last season should ensure City don't fall victim to complacency.
Their group-stage meetings resulted in a 2-1 Lyon win in Manchester, before a 2-2 draw in France. It is, however, a much-changed Lyon team and they also have a new manager at the helm, with Rudi Garcia having replaced Bruno Genesio.
How do the bookies view it?
City are hot favourites, with Skybet going a best price of 1-4 on the English outfit winning in 90 minutes, while to qualify they are just 1-8 at Betfred.
Lyon are 7-1 at bet365 to make the semis and 12-1 at Betfair to do so with victory in 90 minutes, while the draw pays 29-5 at SportPesa.
Betting angles
City have form and match fitness on their side, having won 10 of their 13 games post-lockdown. However, the defeats during that run – away to Chelsea, Southampton and Arsenal – show they can be fallible on their travels.
While going forward they can often be unstoppable, they frequently give up chances at the other end. And if Lyon are to have any hope of springing another surprise, they will likely have to get on the scoresheet, so odds against for both teams to net is a risk worth taking.
City are still without star striker Sergio Aguero through injury, but Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling have been filling the void. Both were on target against Real, and Sterling is 11-10 favourite at Unibet to get on the scoresheet on Saturday night, with Jesus not far behind at 23-20.
Whoever gets the goals, City can make their superiority tell. Back the English side, over 1 match goal and over five City corners – Guardiola's men have had at least six flag-kiiks in seven of their last eight matches – as a 20-23 bet365 Bet Builder.
