carlingcup

THERE are plenty of games to get our teeth into on Tuesday with Carling Cup, League One and League Two matches.

As usual the Carling Cup is a bit of a minefield with most managers playing weakened sides.

However, you can bet Man United players will be at their best at Aldershot in the Carling Cup.

Most of the players who flopped against new title favourites Man City will stand down but won't want to see thunder in Sir Alex Ferguson's face for the second time in three days.

Some people are tipping a shock here but I can't see past United who are just 2-7 with Stan James. League Two Aldershot are 14-1 shots at William Hill.

Ferguson will allow Michael Owen and Dimitar Berbatov to lead the line and both are 5-4 with Chandler to score at any time. Owen netted a double in the last round at Leeds and is my pick.

Arsenal meet Bolton with neither side likely to be at full strength. Bolton are in crisis near the foot of the table and getting out of the bottom three is all that matters to them right now.

Once again this trophy looks Arsene Wenger's best chance of breaking his drought so take the young Gunners at 8-13 (Coral) to edge a win.

Tonight's other ties feature Championship sides with the best bet Crystal Palace at 2-1 with bodog and McBookie.com at home to leaders Southampton who will rotate as many as possible.

The Saints' priority is promotion and they'll have an eye on the weekend clash at home to second-placed Middlesbrough.

Palace have been the Championship's surprise guys this season and Dougie Freedman's young side can continue their cracking form with a victory at Selhurst Park.

It's tough to call Cardiff v Burnley and this one may need extra time and even penalties to separate the sides. Cardiff's small squad has been pushed to the limit in recent weeks and 1-1 with the likes of William Hill and Ladbrokes looks a bit skinny.

Burnley are a biggest 3-1 at Betfred and Coral and it's big considering they have won three out of six away from home in the Championship.

In League One I like on-form Sheffield United at home to MK Dons and there are some outstanding away prospects.

The Blades are unbeaten in four while MK haven't won in three. A home wins pays 5-4 at Chandler.

Sheffield Wednesday have won five out of six and should pick up another three points at a Carlisle outfit beaten at Charlton last weekend. Back Wednesday at 7-4 with William Hill and Chandler.

Jordan Rhodes is the striker on everyone's thoughts at the moment after an incredible run of 13 goals in five games for Huddersfield and Scotland Under-21s.

Rhodes has netted hat-tricks in last two club matches and is 13-8 with boylesports to score at any time at Scunthorpe. Huddersfield remain unbeaten this season and I fancy them to notch another win against who haven't scored in three of their last four. They are 6-5 at Stan James.

In League Two I also fancy a couple of aways. Paul Sturrock's Southend are on the tail of Crawley after a 4-0 spanking of Torquay at the weekend. They should be too good for a Barnet side who have lost three of their last four league games. Southend are 11-10 with Ladbrokes.

And with Torquay on a downer after conceding nine goals in their last two games free-scoring Wimbledon can take advantage. They were hammered 5-2 by Crawley at the weekend but have netted 16 in their last seven games and can bounce back. They are 2-1 with Betfred and Blue Square.

Crawley, 4-9 at Betfred should do the business for backers of short-priced favourites at home to Dagenham and Morecambe, after good results on the road at Southend and Port Vale, can win at home to Rotherham. They are 5-4 at Chandler.
