AFTER Sunday's success with a fourfold that paid 11-1 in some places I'm back with an over 2.5 goals combo.
To be fair there isn't much difference between the btts and over 2.5 goals – only a 1-1 draw will bring up btts and not overs – but prices are usually bigger on the overs.
So let's start with Coventry v Orient – a game between the two highest scorers in League One. Coventry have hit 27 and the leaders 31 but the difference is Orient have only conceded eight to their rivals' 21.
Coventry have been particularly flamboyant at their Northampton “home” with 29 goals being scored in six games but they showed the could defend with a decent display to hold Wolves 1-1 at Molineux at the weekend.
There seems to be no stopping Orient at the moment but this should be a much tougher test than was provided for them at Tranmere at the weekend where they ran out 4-0 winners.
The sides drew 0-0 in the JP Trophy recently but I tend to ignore those games. Orient could edge this but I'm happy to go with over 2.5 at a biggest 3-4 with Ladbrokes.
Stay in League One and look at another two in-form sides, Swindon and Walsall. Swindon are the enforcers and Walsall the entertainers and when the two collide there should be goals.
The home men have kept successive clean sheets in beating Notts County and Rotherham but I expect Walsall to net at least once as they have done in five of their last six. They're the only side to win at Wolves this season so should go to Swindon and give them a decent fight.
It was 2-2 when they last met at Crawley and over 2.5 goals pays 10-11 at William Hill and Ladbrokes.
My third pick is from League Two and it's Southend v Dagenham. The sides met at Southend earlier this month in the JP Trophy with the Daggers winning 5-2 and it was 5-2 to the home men five meetings ago.
So the last five meetings at Southend have produced 26 goals with both scoring in all but one. Southend have scored in their last six while the Daggers' previous six encounters have seen both sides hit the target.
I wanted to add a Champions League game in and there are sure to be a couple of high scorers, with Arsenal v Dortmund maybe being the favourite. However, I've decided to stay in League Two and go with Burton v Torquay.
This one's done purely on past meetings with the fixture producing 14 goals in the last three with both scoring in all of them. Both are struggling but are capable of hitting the target.
Over 2.5 goals
Coventry v Orient
Swindon v Walsall
Southend v Dagenham
Burton v Torquay
Perm any 3 and all 4 (5 bets)
Fourfold pays 11-1 at William Hill
When looking at prices for Over 2.5 goals i often get 4/5 for No and i get 10/11 for a Yes…and sometimes vice versa, but which is the better price?
John, 10-11 is the better price. Closest to evens would be 99-100 so the bigger numbers are better odds. For example, 3-4 is better than 1-2.
The Win and BTTS coupon has seemed popular, so thought I might give it a try. Going for Leyton Orient (I’m thinking 3-1/3-2), Celtic (Really fancy 2-1) and Napoli (No idea ;)). Pays 124/1 so think i’ll have a go with small stakes – see how close I get.
MiniDuff, I’m warm on Napoli but you’re three games are close calls. On Aguero I see your entry now. Think I missed because you gave a spiel which you are right to do. Contest review now updated.
I know they are all close games, but it’s generally close games you need for the BTTS to come up, so just went with my gut instinct. The odds are so large for a reason.
Also, thanks. I wasn’t sure if there were only 3 winners or not. I think next time I might not put my prediction hidden in the middle of a spiel and at the end of it instead :)
Mr. F sorry for the question but, what does perm mean?
I get it now, sorry. It’s a treble and a single
Could someone explain what “Perm any 3 and all 4 (5 bets)”
Means?
Just out of curiosity Mr F, are you familiar with a shop in Clydebank run by a McGuinness, it was a grocery shop that supplied the docks and ships? Just something i was meaning to ask but forgot
John, there was a flower shop run by McGuinness and I remember that because the guy’s daughter was at school with my sister. You’re going back to the 60s and 70s when Clydebank was last building big ships like the QE2. Why you asking?
Sorry if it seemed personal, it’s just one of my neighbours who passed away a few months ago (she was in her early 100s) used to run the shop with her husband when it was called Cosgroves, they left Clydebank for Ireland years and years ago and it was just something i was meaning to ask
John, it’s no problem. Must have been Cosgroves before McGuinness took it over. I’ll ask some of the older generation if they remember it.
I bumped into her daughter after putting on the Overs fourfold for tonight in the bookies, her relatives are hard to find as they’re over from Scotland from time to time…who knows, maybe it was a lucky omen for us all :-)
