RESULTS were pretty poor last night with punters giving back some of their weekend winnings.
Midweek games in England are often unpredictable and I hope I put up some warnings about the fact there were no “bankers”.
It's almost exclusively a Champions League night on Wednesday with some of the big guns rolling out – and remember Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, PSG and Man City have already booked their last-16 slots so could ring the changes.
Man United top Group A with eight points, one clear of tonight's opponents Bayer Leverkusen, so need a victory to progress with a game to spare.
A draw, however, will put injury-hit Davie Moyes's men – he is without the likes of Merouane Fellaini, Robin van Persie, Nemanja Vidic and Michael Carrick – in pole position to win the section and that looks the likely result against a decent German side who thumped Shakhtar 4-0 in their last home outing.
The Reds have drawn away to Shakhtar and Sociedad and a third away stalemate at 12-5 with Betfred and bet365 looks the call.
Shakhtar should beat Socieded in the other game to keep their last-16 hopes alive but are no bigger than 4-6 with William Hill and others to do so.
Man City's clash with Viktoria Plzen at the Etihad will be a dead rubber unless Bayern Munich drop points in the earlier kick-off away to CSKA Moscow. However, with City through it's likely boss Manuel Pellegrini will play his reserves – and he's already confirmed Joe Hart will start.
City have been formidable at home, with the 6-0 rout against Spurs at the weekend, taking their goals tally to 26 in the Premier League. They won 3-0 away to the Czechs and whatever side Pellegrini puts out should be too strong.
City are no bigger than 2-11 at Ladbrokes but the value could be in Edin Dzeko to score first at 9-2 with Ladbrokes.
The Bosnian has netted eight in 10 starts but has been out in the cold recently due to the form of Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo but should start tonight.
Bayern put their 100 per cent record on the line against CSKA Moscow but will be without Mario Mandzukic, Franck Ribery, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Xherdan Shaqiri, Claudio Pizarro, Diego Contento and Holger Badstuber.
They were superb in beating Dortmund at the weekend and with the likes of Mario Goetze and Arjen Robben in good form they should be good enough to win but are just 4-9 with the likes of Ladbrokes.
Juventus are bottom of Group A but should be second after tonight's matches. They are back on top of Serie A having hauled in Roma who won their first 10 matches.
Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente are banging in the goals and they've kept five successive clean sheets in the league. Three draws – two with Real Madrid – have put Juve in a precarious position but they should still qualify and are just 2-13 at Ladbrokes to beat Copenhagen tonight.
Take Juve to win to nil at 4-6 with Ladbrokes and back Tevez to score first at 4-1 with Coral.
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti needs to do his old club a favour by beating Galatasaray at the Bernabeu – and you have to fancy the Spaniards at home even without Cristiano Ronaldo, Xabi Alonso, Fabio Contreao and Luka Modric.
Real hit four against Almeria at the weekend after Ronaldo limped off, one of them coming from Gareth Bale who is 6-1 at bet365 to fire the opener.
Galatasaray are still finding their feet under Roberto Mancini but they did draw 2-2 in his first game at Juventus so both to score has a chance.
PSG are a best 2-5 to win and I'd like to see who they're fielding. The other game in Group C sees Anderlecht entertain poor travellers Benfica.
The Portuguese side opened with victory over Anderlecht back in August but have since lost 3-0 at PSG and taken just a point from two matches with Olympiakos to sit three points behind the Greek side.
Second place still remains a realistic target for Benfica but they would need both PSG and Anderlecht to take points off Olympiakos over the next two matchdays for that to happen.
Benfica are without midfielder Ruben Amorim and striker Oscar Cardozo and I reckon 11-10 at the likes of William Hill is a tad short.
So after considering all of the matches I've decided to go with Bale to score at anytime at 6-4 with bet365.
And for the Top Treble I'm going with over 2.5 goals in the matches at Real Madrid and Man City plus Juventus to win to nil.
My Super Single in the Daily Record today is Bale to score first and I'm sticking with the former Spurs man at 6-4 with bet365. He was on target against Almeria after Ronaldo went off injured and without the Portuguese on the field must have a better chance of scoring.
For the Top treble I'm starting with Juventus to win to nil. After five successive clean sheets in Serie A they should be able to keep out the Danes.
City have won eight out of nine at home in the Champions League and 40 goals have been scored in these matches. That's an average of five – while 10 goals have been netted in Plzen's two away games in this campaign.
Over 2.5 goals should come and for anyone wanting to boost the line they can think about over 3.5.

Well, it wasn’t an easy day but I managed to pick out some gems yesterday. 13/8, 21/20 and 11/10 winners meant that it was 3 from 4 and a healthy profit indeed. Not so convinced by today’s card but I’ve picked out some nice bets and hopefully we’ll make a nice little profit on these.
MANCHESTER CITY V VIKTORIA PLZEN 7:45pm
Man City have scored an incredible amount of goals at the Etihad recently. 7,5 and 6 in their last 3 in all competitions including putting 5 past CSKA in their last UCL match. Plzen are a poor side at this level and City will turn them over no matter what side they put out. Plzen lost 3-2 away to CSKA and 5-0 to Bayern and therefore City should have no problem scoring. Keeping them out tends to be an issue in the Champions League, but I’m going to go with City to win and over 3.5 match goals which pays 11/10 here.
JUVENTUS V COPENHAGEN 7:45pm
After a heroic draw in Copenhagen, the away side know they have nothing to fear or lose coming into this one. Juventus must win to secure their place in the knockout round and I fear a bit of a beating coming on for Copenhagen here. Juventus will be too strong and have been scoring freely in Europe at home, it’s keeping them out that’s the problem. Two 2-2 draws have put them needing to secure a win here. They will score freely here but Copenhagen may get a goal themselves. I’m going to be backing exactly the same market as above by saying Juventus to win and over 3.5 goals at 5/4.
FEIRENSE V BENFICA II 3:00pm (Portugal Segunda Division)
Not a packed card today but this bet jumps out at me like very little I’ve seen recently. Benfica II’s games have seen 25 goals in their previous 5 matches. That is a staggering amount and Feirense’s home matches have seen over 2.5 goals 4 out of the previous 5 matches. I was expecting to find very little in the way of value here but I was proved wrong. Over 2.5 goals is 19/20 and whilst not above evens, it is close enough and good enough value to bite the bookies hand off for. Oh and the only two meetings between these sides have resulted in 10 goals being scored…

I made nearly £50 on £20 stakes profit yesterday on a difficult day raaljaca. You know I think a lot of your tips and always have a go on them but I would class that yesterday as a good day. If I get any sort of profit in a day, I class that as a good day and 3 from 4 and a 160% return on investment, I’d say that’s a healthy profit myself.
I was merely putting it into perspective Alex. Your selections were very well laid out but without a staking plan it just looked like 3 out of 4 and a return of the equivilant of a 4/7 priced winner.
As I’m sure you’ll completely appreciate, it might look like a 4/7 winner, but if only 2/4 of them came in, I’d still be in profit. If I took a 4/7 selection and it lost, I’d lose all my cash! I’m glad you bought it up though and if anyone reading this has concerns about my selections or whether they’re worth it or the best way to do them, I’m more than happy to discuss it.
Alex, your selections are excellent, all odds against, and your lay out is second to none mate. I just think if you are putting up 3 or 4 odds against shots which do come in regularly then it might be even better if you advise a staking plan i.e. your best bet carrying 3 pts then second best with 2 pts followed by a 1 pt etc? With the amount of research you put in why not highlight the one that you personally feel is your strongest bet? With the amount of work you put in you will definitely make your selections stand out even more mate. It was only constructive criticism Alex.

I think I had a minor heart attack last night. I said in my post that Adrian will score between 50-60th minute and he did, I had a late bet for him to score as part of a slip that had Chelsea, but I also had an Atletico win, an Atletico WTN as part of other slips that were separate from the heavily backed Chelsea, Chesterfield games… an Atletico Madrid own goal, an own goal that could have easily been punched out by a goalkeeper whose been impressing all year… a slight mistake and my whole night and bank ruined. Lets hope for goodies tonight…

Morning Guys, yesterday was a good day, on difficult day and tonight its all about the Champions League, starting with the two English teams.
Leverkusen have won 6 out of 7 at home this season in the league and have drawn the other, so this is a tough game for Man U. Bayer have scored 20 goals at home in the league so far this season, and in their two Champions League home matches they have won 2-1 & 4-0. They have also won their last 8 home group matches in this competition.
Man Utd will be missing key players like Vidic, Carrick, Fellani and RVP. The reverse fixture saw a Man U win 4-2 and I can see another open game, with a few goals. (Over 2.5 match goals is 10/11 Skybet) Which brings me to Stefan Kiessling. I have tipped this player up a few times in the past, and he is probably best known by punters for scoring that “phantom” goal, which were happy to take. He now faces a United defence that doesn’t look solid to me, I want to be with him at 7/4 Bet365. He has scored in five of Bayer’s nine home games.

How about keeping it simple? 3 to 4 singles with equal stakes should do and if only 2 bets came in you’ll be in profit or at least you get your total stake back instead of multiple bets/combos.

My plan for the week is to deposit a set amount each week. If I lose all my money for the week, that’s it. I don’t chase my losses and I don’t think, ooh I’ll just put in another £20 in because ??? said it was a good bet. Just let it go. That amount you deposit is up to you, but just play it sensible. If I profit at the end of the week, I withdraw that amount to my bank and save it up for myself. Don’t be greedy and raise your stakes.
As for a staking plan, I’m not professing to be an expert here and I’m hoping that someone will chip in and help me out here(!?!?!) but what I do is, look at how the previous days have gone. If it’s been a good week, I tend to feel a little more confident about the selections and raise my total stake by 10%. Therefore, if I have 4 tips out on a Monday and it was a 3/4 or 4/4 day for me, I raise from £50 staked to £55. If I lose some money the day before, I drop my stakes to £45. This means I’m not being aggressive with my strategy and allows me to keep my betting pattern under control. I tend to use adjusted stakes on my betting, allowing each bet to return the same amount. Therefore it doesn’t matter whether it’s the 8/11 bet or the 3/1 bet that wins, it should all equal itself out over time. This means that the more likely bets are not penalised over the higher odds bets.
I can’t stress enough that you should only bet what you can afford to lose. Nothing is certain in football betting (or any betting for that matter) and if it loses, you need to be able to take it on the chin and move on. Don’t be aggressive, don’t chase losses and don’t regret being stupid.

That’s excellent stuff Alex – thank you. I’ve really learned my lesson after last week – it’s a shame a staking plan was not in place prior to my mishap but you live and learn.
Just one other question which I think is really important because people (me) can get carried away. Do you ever cover your bets in-play or do you just accept you’ve lost that particular bet.
For example, say you put Luton down to score 2 goals or more (pre-match) and it’s still 0-0 at h/t, would you go for them to score less than 2 goals at h/t? What stakes?

Ian, from what I’m reading Dzeko will start and he is 9-2 at Ladbrokes. If you back him to score first and he doesn’t start you’ll be refunded in most cases.
Of a truth, last night was really a bad night for me. I’m looking at the horses today and my attention’s been pulled to the Fontwell card and in particular the race at 2.10pm.
Fontwell is a regular hunting ground for trainer Gary Moore, and one that he does well at. Today Moore rides GORES ISLAND and I think he looks to have a great chance at lifting the prize. He was a winner earlier this month on his seasonal debut in a fairly hot conditionals race, he looked a revitalised animal and one who could have plenty more improvement in the bag. Looking at potential horses to spoil the party I’d say the main danger comes from course and distance winner Seebright. Victor Dartnall’s horse is relatively unexposed and is likely to make his presence felt this term. The benefit of a recent run however and the weight concession is enough to swing me towards Gores Island though. I’m hoping for a big run.

In the last 9 games that Bristol City have played against teams in the top half of Division 1, 8 of them have featured over 2.5 goals. On Saturday they are away to Preston and over 2.5 can be backed at 10/11, well worth putting as the start of an over 2.5 treble or Acca.

Mixed day yesterday for me in terms of betting. Won on my single which I posted up (Brentford to beat The Posh), but lost on my treble which I didn’t post up as rushed out after I got home from work. Chelsea were the let downs in my treble.

From looking at today I have gone for a double I believe has a great chance of coming in.
Manchester City have such a strong squad and such a depth that it doesn’t really bother me that Kompany, Jovetic and Silva are sidelined. Having already qualified they are fighting over top place with Bayern Munich. Personally I believe that is Bayerns and City will take second.
Pelligrini has said tonights game against Plzen isn’t about scoring 4,5 or 6 goals, as they have been showing in the BPL recently. However he said a ‘win’ is the most important factor. Having previously beating Plzen 3-0 I believe playing at home tonight they will repeat that scoreline or better it by 1. So my first of my double is for City to score over 2.5 goals @4/5 bet365

Moving onto my second part of the double. Manchester United have flown over to Germany to face Bayer Leverkusen. I watched the last game which ended in United winning 4-2 and RVP and Rooney were rampant. Leverkusen did scare them though scoring 2 goals and not from the usual suspects of Sam or Kiessling. Both teams are scoring freely in their leagues but are conceding a few too many as well. United more recently with soft goals against Cardiff especially with the standard United should be presenting. RVP and Vidic have been left behind which doesn’t help at either end of the field but any team that has Wayne Rooney in them certainly doesn’t need to look anywhere else for someone other than this man to not only terrorize defenders but come up with the goods. The most obvious choice for me here is Both teams to score @8/11 bet365. Skybet have same odds for this.

Just one other question which I think is really important because people (me) can get carried away. Do you ever cover your bets in-play or do you just accept you’ve lost that particular bet.
For example, say you put Luton down to score 2 goals or more (pre-match) and it’s still 0-0 at h/t, would you go for them to score less than 2 goals at h/t? What stakes?

With Ronaldo and RVP missing and given the previous encounters between RM & Gala and Leverkusen & Utd I feel most of the play will come through these two. Indeed even with Hernandez playing up top vs Cardiff it was constantly Rooney who offered the greater threat. It may well be that Welbeck plays up top instead and his hold up play is much better than Hernandez so feel Rooney will be involved in the right areas either way.
Whilst I do not see RM play as frequently as I do Utd its clear Bale is finding form and with Ronaldo out he will be the dominant attacker against a Gala side that leak goals both domestically and in Europe especially away from home. Add to this that Bale will have more of a look in from free kicks and I feel 6/4, 13/10 anytime is good value.

I’m a united fan of 30 years and I urge caution on them tonight (that said I’d have a piece of 7/1 as thats ridiculous!)
I think I read that Leverkusen have only lost once at home this season, to Bayern I think, and without the spine of our team in Vidic, Carrick and RVP we are vulnerable this evening. We will create plenty of chances but we wont be keeping a clean sheet.
I rarely bet on Utd as I am happy enough if they win, I certainly don’t back them to lose but I do see value in Leverkusen tonight. They posed problems at Old Trafford and I see them dominating possession at home. I fear we will see Utd behind early and at HT as we have many times from Utd in recent seasons in Europe. I just cant see us clawing our way back and winning from that position currently.
As I’ve already said I’m on Rooney anytime and I may also look at over 2.5 but I certainly won’t be backing us to win.

MARIENLYST v HOBRO
This one is top plays bottom in the league so Hobro (top) to win is 4/11 but I like the look of Over 3.5 match goals @ 11/10 based on Hobro playing the bottom team in the league but Marienlyst being able to score at least 1 goal against tougher opposition in two out of the last three matches (the last match they won 2-1 at home against second last in the league).
5.30pm Austrian Bundesliga
STURM GRAZ v RIED
Another risky one for two mid table teams but RIED have managed 4 score draws in their last 5 matches (the other was a 4-0 home victory). Sturm Graz have been able to keep the opposition quiet on the goal front but they lost their last two matches (away) and seem to be low on form. I’m fancying Over 2.5 match goals @ 4/5.
Maybe keep the bets small and build up a bit of a pot for later – I’m liking Alex’s Man City / Juventus Over 3.5.

I completely agree with you – I rarely bet on Man U myself and, as an existing Betfair customer I wouldn’t be eligible for the 7/1 either.
The offer is designed to get the average punter who will blindly punt money on Man U (the bookies aren’t daft – they probably dont expect Man U to win) but, for someone a bit more savvy who could put some covering bets on there COULD be some value in it.
Personally I think Man U’s defence is too leaky at the moment but they should go through one way or another.

I know a lots been said about the result BTTS betting but im getting a few wins on this 3 out of 4 but instead of doing trebles I do doubles and stake £10 and have won just over £100 on each my thought is risking one of those wins on the same thing with the stake being £100 getting a return of over £1000 I think its worth the risk for that kinda return and the way you have to look at it is if you lose its a £10 you have lost.

Darren, only you can decide when it comes to stakes. How much would losing £100 hurt you or affect you? If you can afford to lose it and can shrug it off then fair enough. But if you lose £100 what do you do next? Do you chase it and lose another £100? Playing with a tenner is much safer.

Yeah I did notice Mr F, but I had to nip out this afternoon so (rather foolishly) put my bets on before seeing the line-ups. Really fancied Zlatan too, but don’t have a lot of experience with FGS betting.
Either way, the SS (as well as my own) is my bread and butter so such a pleasure when it lands so early. As you said, 6-1 for FGS is huge when CR isn’t on the field. Danny the 3-1 match was the first leg of the semi-final of the Copa Sudamericana so Sao Paulo actually rested players for that match – didn’t seem to work!
It’s a really tough match to call but I’d have to say if I was betting I’d put it on Sao Paulo. Ponte Preta have the second worst home record behind Nautico (who are absolute mince) in the league while Sao Paulo have the joint 3rd best away record and in the H-2-H meetings they do have a few recent away wins.

Really struggled to put together any sort of tips in the overnight games so bear in mind…

This is a match up between two teams in poor form as both have a record of 2 wins and 4 defeats in the last 6 – all of these wins have come at home though and . Potosi sit in 6th place, 3 points and 2 places below Wilstermann but they have a very good home record of P8 W6 D1 L1 whereas Wilstermann have lost 3 on the bounce away, 2 of these defeats were against the top 2 in the league but the other was a 4-2 humping by the not very good Real Potosi. I’m betwixt and between the home win and the draw but I think Nacional will be strong enough at home

Universidad Guadalajara vs Necaxa
This bet is purely on current form but this is the final of the Apertura stage in this league which is played over 2 legs so be careful. Universidad finished the league stage in 5th with a home record of P7 W5 D1 L1 while Necaxa had an away record of P7 W2 D2 L3 which doesn’t sound great but is good in this league. This game in the league finished 4-0 to Guadalajara who are in good form having beaten the team who finished top of the Aperture in the semi-final.
However, Necaxa are absolutely flying having won their 4 games in the final stages thus far scoring 11 without conceding a goal. They beat Delfines in the semi-final 7-0 on aggregate which really catches the eye. Delfines conceded only 12 goals in 14 games during the regular season. If this wasn’t impressive enough then the away win by Necaxa of 4-0 looks even better as Delfines had a home record of P7 W6 L1 F17 A2 during the season which is better than Guadalajara’s. Bit risky but gonna be on the away win

They play each other four times per season here, twice home and away. When Oriente have been home in the last two seasons, three times out of four, they’ve won with the other game a draw. When Blooming are home, as tonight, it’s been three draws with one away to Oriente.
In the one game they’ve played so far this season, Oriente have won at home, so, here’s hoping the overall trend will continue. They’re both in poor-ish form…

It’s a game where anything could happen and there’s any number of ways it could go, so, I’d say no-bet. That is… if I didn’t find Over 11 corners pretty appealing at 9/10.
One team has to go for it with nothing to lose, and they’re the ‘better’ side. The other team, we can assume, will defend for their lives. You can see Sao Paulo throwing everything at from the off, and especially towards the end, perhaps, needing to win, or, possibly, roles reversed and SP having done the business, Ponte effectively out, so, all-out attack…
Of course, it may not pan out like that at all, but we’re having an overnight punt here!

From reading your comments I have no idea why you are on this site as it is holistic negative. It is easy to rubbish tips after they lose. I would safely say you don’t own a company as the phrase ‘ if it was easy everybody would be doing it’ would defiantly apply to you.
