THE countdown to the big Euro 2106 qualifier between Scotland and Ireland on Friday is on.

It should be a cracking contest and I'll put up tips late on Thursday night. I can't see Scotland losing the game and if they take their chances they should win but I'm expecting goals, cards and thrills and spills between two fierce rivals.

It will be a score draw Mr F and scotland will be happy enough to take a draw at the Republics spiritual home Celtic Park…’I can’t see Scotland losing the game and if they take their chances they should win’..brave man that backs those words with cash ;)…My prediction 1-1

Have to say im surprised the Scottish FA decided this game will be played at Celtic, surely that takes just a little bit of home advantage away, bit like the republic saying Their home match against Scotland will be played North of the border at Windsor.
Surprised but aint complaining, nice gesture ;)

Sean, I don’t agree and I’m sure Scott Brown won’t either. It’s not as if it’s going to be packed with Celtic fans – it will be full of Scotland supporters. Hampden’s out of commission, Ibrox is smaller so it had to be at Celtic Park.

Delighted you seem to be confident in Scotland Mr F. Makes me feel a bit less nervous. Hoping Steven Fletcher really steps up to the plate.

Not sure where the cocky Irish confidence comes from, Scotland are probably thee form team in Europe since Strachan took over, just look at his record.

Disposed of a Croatian side home and away last term that humiliated Ireland in the Euros, Scotland actually completely outplayed what is considered one of the best passing sides in Europe.

There’s no doubt if the referee allows it to be a football match there’s only one winner.

Whilst Ireland have some very good Scottish players in their ranks, they are still reliant on an MLS striker. Scotland have one of the form strikers of the season in Naismith altho was poor against Georgia but Fletcher is just finding some form at the right time.

Jman, it’s got a derby feel to it and form can go out of the window. Ireland drew in Germany so will be confident but I think Scotland will edge it.

Stupid thing to claim that Scotland are the form team in Europe, how do you work that one out? is it the narrow win at home to Georgia or the draws with poland, nigeria and usa in games played in 2014 that convince you of this?If thats the case im stating Ireland as world beaters following their incredible wins over gibraltar, georgia and oman in their last 4 games….Form team in Europe my @rse :)

Im not going to call the outcome of this match as for me its too close to call but the sheer fact that both nations gave genuine chances of qualifying is great and hopefully its the start of a resurgance for both nations as they have been in the doldrums for far too long
yes ireland qualified for the last euros but were hopeless when they got there and scotland havent qualified for a tournament since 96 i think ?
It all gears towards a really tight but exciting game and long may that continue for both nations
    Cmon ireland !!!! ( couldnt resist ) !!

We do indeed have some Scottish born players in our team as do Scotland have some english players I. Ye’res as for the confidence it comes from being Unbeaten as of yet in these qualifiers.

Personally would be happy enough with a draw to remain unbeaten and think it probably will be.

Should be a cracking game atmosphere either way.

Personally, I think Ireland have been really overrated by a lot of observers. A great result in Germany but lucky to get it. The Germans, could and should have been out of sight by the time OShea scored his 2d goal in a hundred games. Away to Georgia they were living on their wits before a bit of magic by McGeady took the three points home. Results before the qualifiers were, well I’ll be nice, they were patchy.

Scotland are on the other end of the spectrum with a real upturn in fortunes, confidence and playing style. They were extremely unlucky not to get something away to Germany where a win would not have flattered them and a win in Poland was very conceivable. They came after excellent performances and results and although the win at Ibrox was a thin one they got the job done.

I reckon they’ll get the job done again. The only thing Ireland have going for them imo is team spirit. I guess that can count for a lot but Scotland will have plenty of that about them too.

I will be backing a Scotland win I think.
