NOT even Dick Advocaat saw that one coming – Sweden 8, Luxembourg 0.
The result ended Holland's slim hopes of making the World Cup play-offs and they need to beat Sweden by seven goals on Tuesday to finish second in Group A behind France.
Last week when he was bigging up his side's chances of reaching Russia, Advocaat was asked: “What if Sweden beat Luxembourg 8-0?
His answer: “Impossible. Stupid question.”
I didn't think it likely either after Luxembourg held France 0-0 in Paris and took under 3.5 match goals as my Super Single. How do I feel now – like a real Dick (Advocaat).
My Top Treble was beaten by Notts County crazily drawing with Forest Green and the both to score treble was miles out.
I predicted it would be a tough day which was why there were fewer bets than normal Saturdays but well done to Desmond who landed his both to score double but saw Notts County a goal short on his 2+ double. Greg and Jordan were the wise ones with no bets.
So we move on to the next round of World Cup qualifiers and it's D-Day for Scotland who will make the play-offs if they beat Slovenia away. Bosnia's defeat at home to Belgium means the Scots won't be the worst second-placed team that will unluckily miss out.
I thought the Scots would slip up against Slovakia last week but they played well and eventually netted the goal they needed. Slovenia are basically out as we all accept Slovakia will beat Malta at home but they haven't conceded at home in the qualifiers, including a 0-0 draw against England, so it won't be easy for Gordon Strachan's men.
However, I'm hoping we edge it in what's likely to be another nailbiter and at least give us hope in the play-offs against one of the seeded nations.
I've posted a separate preview featuring Slovenia v Scotland and some of the other qualifiers.
I know England struggled to beat Slovenia but Lithuania are far weaker and don't score many so taking England to win to nil as a Super Single – and that 11-10 has now been cut. If he starts Harry Kane is a likely first scorer at 13-5 with Marathonbet.
I'm not sure Scotland will win so I'm going with them not to lose and taking Northern Ireland to avoid defeat in Norway as they look to book a play-off place. Complete the treble with Germany to win to nil at home to Azerbaijan even with a weakened team.

Will update profit/loss figure after Sundays bets
Subscription fee worth it just for the headline puns – “Swedes make me feel right dick” – just wrong on so many levels Mr F: Vegetable fetish? More than one penis? ?
Anyhow, speaking of dicks, Gareth Southgates charisma-bypass operation appears to be complete and no doubt we can look forward to more enthralling passion from the man-robot after tomorrow’s game.
It may have become obvious that I have little faith in England’s national side but it is a very well informed opinion having seen them bomb at every meaningful turn over a 30+ year period – I do however, make exception when the pressure is off!
Today’s match is one such occasion; no tangiable pressure and, as ever, England will perform under these circumstances – they always do.
Plenty of attacking possession should see the corner-count notch up as the game goes on and one bet stands out for me:
OVER 6.5 ENGLAND CORNERS…11/10
?????
Best of luck.
Yeah sorry about that – Advocaat’s fault really.
?
So if theme of today’s thread is about dicks. Well let me add another to the list. Betstars! Had 3 games picked out today for my usual 2-3 goals strategy and as I normally do went to place a treble with them for only a small amount £5 only to find that I am now not even able to stake that amount on the treble. £3.83 is all I can do! Absolute joke and now I’m left thinking I can’t carry the strategy on the way I have been as they are one of only a few sites that offer that market and the only site I could place this treble with.
That’s a bit rubbish – you must have them running scared.
I could sort of understand if I was using high stakes but it’s such small amounts really. I wish there was a way you could just place your bets and not have to worry about stupid things like that. Ah well won’t be doing the bets today and looks like I have placed my last bet with them too. If the 3 games go on to win then the toys will exit the pram with more force than they already have!!
Maybe all is not lost after all….
“In regards to your concern, please note that the maximum bet you may place can be viewed by clicking on the ‘Max Stake’ tab in the bet slip next to the selection. Each selection is subject to a default maximum bet which will vary greatly. For example: the maximum bet will be far higher on Premier League football matches than on lower league games.
Our tier limits are dependent on numerous factors inclusive but not limited to liquidity, popularity of market and tier of division. In high tier events we see no problems with the bets you are trying to place based on your history, so if you could provide an example that would be great, and we will happily move the limits to a level beneficial to both parties.
If you require an increase in your stake, we kindly ask you to provide us with information on where you want your limits to be increased (sports, leagues, markets, etc).
Please send us a screen capture of an example when you hit maximum bet being limited. Thank you for your time and cooperation, is very much appreciated.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us back. We wish you the best of the luck in your bets”
An interesting reply but you have to wonder why the default limit is so low.
Little bit of interest for any Night Owls out there:
INTER PLAYA DEL CARMEN VS. PUEBLA PREMIER (0100 KO):
The Mexican Segunda is a rich stomping ground for goals (I remember reading some data that stated it was THE best league for goals a couple of seasons back which I disagree with) and although it’s not a regular stop-off for me, there appears to be some value here with FHGs being a premium within the division:
One selection:
FHGL 1.0, 1.5…1.950
???
Looks like this one kicks off at a different time than originally stated – various but looks like Sunday evening.
MONAGAS VS. TRUJILLANOS:
Sits 1-1 at HT and looks a great price for a couple more with both goals coming late in the opening 45′
OVER 3.5 MGS…EVENS
???
?
Armenia Goal Before 55:00 @ 5/6 @ 365 – 3 points
Bookies suggest not much separate these sides but Armenia were the victors at home in the reverse in a 2-0 win with two quick succession goals late in the second half. They should have been up by four or five by then and have a reasonable goal time for the amount the Kazaks concede. Henrikh Mkhitaryan either creates or scores the majority of Armenias goals and that’s proof by being the second shortest price for a match scorer @ 21/10 @ 365.
Only one this time:
GILLINGHAM to WIN @ 4.36
Good luck to all!
UFC 216 Tip
Walt Harris to beat Fabricio Werdum 12/5
Good odds for a fight only put together hours ago due an injury to Werdums original opponent. On paper its quite straight forward. If Werdum gets the fight to the ground then he’ll win via submission with relative ease but if Harris keeps the fight on the feet and comes out strong in the 1st Rd which I expect then he has the power and better boxing to KO Werdum. This is heavy weight fight which in the UFC normally means it wont go to a decision. Somebody is gonna get finished and I’m taking Harris to get it done in round 1.

An usuccessful day yesterday as so many Saturdays are. Guilty of too many bets again. Just can’t help myself!!! Doubles were a shining light. A few games today to look at.
Hey thanks i followed your newcastle and northampton dbl. Sorry you didnt win yesterday guess i just got lucky picking right one
Kane ATGS, England RT5 6/5
Poland Win & BTTS 21/10 – quarter stake (quite risky as Jovetic may be out)
After my win on greece to score 2 ,
I put this bet on,,, Netherlands win and over 2.5
Portsmouth 2,denmark win and over 2.5
From my post yesterday morning…. I read the Sydney game right, but bet the wrong way (fancying there’d be 2-3 goals), but boy did I read the Mariners game wrong, with Newcastle routing them.
However today thing’s were a bit brighter… the betting gods were nice to me on my actual birthday with 2/2. :)
Adelaide – goal before 53rd min @ 1.83 – WON
Wanderers win @ 1.90 – WON
Slovakia win over 3.5 goals 4/5
England win to nil 10/11 nice looking wee double . GL all

Be careful with this one @archie – Only 4 of Malta’s last 20 away games have seen over 2.5, 2 of which went over 3.5. They generally always lose but just not by much.
Cheers mate . Slovakia need win fingers x
Denmark – Romania
================
Denmark
========
– Denmark meets Romania in a decisive game for the hosts, who need a point to be sure of the play-off.
– The Nordic are on an upward trend and come after a clear victory in Montenegro, where Eriksen shined.
– Denmark has a series of 4 consecutive wins in the current qualifying campaign, the last draw being recorded against Romania, score 0-0.
– 3 of the last 4 games played by Denmark ended with at least 3 goals scored.
– Jens Larsen and Nicolai Jorgensen are injured and will not be able to play in this game for the home team.
Romania
========
– Cosmin Contra started with a victory on Romania’s technical bench, but a success against a modest opponent, the 126th place in the world. However, the selection was good, and Budescu, ignored by Daum, won the game almost alone.
– Despite this victory, Romania remained on the 4th place in the standings, with 12 points accumulated, 10 fewer than the leader, Poland.
Contra has big problems in making the first 11. Gicu Grozav, Romario Benzar and Vlad Chiriches are injured and will not be able to play in this game, and Alexandru Chipciu and Mihai Pintilii are suspended and will also missing.
=============================================================================================== Denmark and Romania have met 8 times so far and the Danes have managed only 2 wins, the most recent being in 2003.
Romania has never won in Denmark, managing just two draws.
Romania is unbeaten in the last three games against the Danes, managing in the last two games to finish without conceding.
=============================================================================================== For Romania, this game is just for the record, and Cosmin Contra has the chance to see more players who did not get too many minutes in the current qualifying campaign.
Denmark has a homogenous team that physically dominated Romania in Cluj and probably will do it now.
I expect a fast start, in which the Danes will try to resolve the fate of the game quickly and I think we are going to witness to a nice match, and i belive that both teams will be able to score and Denmark will win the game.

Drew a blank yesterday on a poor day but things were much closer than they appeared. A Bath City goal would’ve brought up two winners while Stevenage missing a penalty sank the other bet.
Onto today and, like many, I’m focusing on England. I think I’m slightly mad having such confidence in an England side creating goalscoring opportunities after the dire performance in midweek, but as Mr F has mentioned, Lithuania are a far weaker side than Slovenia.
I’m joining Mr F with my main bet.
England To Win to Nil @ 10/11 (Various)
_________________________________
Two fancies for reduced stakes with Sky’s RQB. Hullshaker is on England corners which gives me confidence – it rarely fails, though they did only manage 3 corners against Lithuania in the home reverse. Still, I think that was more of an anomaly than anything else.
England Win, England 2+ Goals, England 5+ Corners @ 1/1 (Sky Bet)
England Win to Nil, England 2+ Goals, England 6+ Corners @ 7/2 (Sky Bet)
_______________________________________________________________
If it ends in a lifeless 0-0, I’ll only have myself to blame, but I think the above actually represent fair value.
Good luck!

Both could be draws but obviously no use to Scotland so if it’s level late on they’ll need to take risks.
Draw might be good enough for the Irish and they might know before kick-off.

£500 profit,id take it,before I’d do £200 bets on singles for double the money, even if it did come in only you can decide if you would regret not letting it run,for me that is great profit alone anyway?
Cheers fella, I’ve done a partial cash out and took my stake plus 100 profit out and left the remainder running. Other parts of the acca were England and Slovakia to win to nil and Scotland/draw double chance

England oblige by winning to nil but I’m left ruing the fact that Harry Maguire missed a couple of sitters. England a goal away from bringing in both RQBs.
Well done all winners, some nice ones from WC. Onwards!
Well I did say the Slovakia to get 2nd place was a near certainty, even about to get a loan of £600 for it in a drunken state haha gutted though after coming so close again. Plus Brown Armstrong still in the team I think it would’ve been a different stort. No team scored in Slovenia bit Scotland managed it twice, hopefully Strachan stays on as he learned to play the form players before double injury and got the results needed, looking back at results 4 games v Lithuania England Malta & Slovakia and only 4 points from opening games killed it, especially the Lithuania game. England game everybody would’ve been happy to take a point before KO but Lithuania are absolutely dung
Strachan blew it in early stages so will be lucky to stqy.
Don’t know who we’d get though – I’d go for Michael O’Neill who still lives in Scotland.
Seen a few folk memtion him on fb, rangers fans mind you but I’d give Strachan another go. He’s the closest we’ve been in years but an aging squad now so don’t even know who’ll be the keeper in a yr as Gordon McGregor Marshall all getting on. Need CB’s in and a goalie but apart from that should be ok. McGinn & Mcgregor need to get time in upcoming friendlies together plus Tierney and Robertson will stay there for 10+ yrs. Griffiths upfront but Berra & Mulgrew won’t be about as will Fletcher or Brown . More ££ for O’Neil but will he leave NI after doing so well??
One thing in Strachan’s favour is the players like him and play for him.
Defence is our problem and has been for years.
Don’t know if O’Neill would take it but spent most of his playing days in Scotland and as I said still lives here.
Would be good to see another ex-Bankie in charge of Scotland. Can you name the other one?
