A SUNDAY spectacular between Liverpool and Man City restored my faith in watching football on the telly.
After a string of 0-0 bores this was a real treat and warmer than standing at Clydebank v Pollok on Saturday. Even the dug was shivering and she's got a fur coat.
I tipped Liverpool draw no bet on my preview and while I fancied goals I didn't want to jinx it by taking them – unlike maccathered who backed his side to win with loads of goals.
Well done to all the winners on Sunday – unfortunately my goals bet crashed and Dortmund and Lyon let down my accumulators by drawing.
My both to score treble would have been running on to Estoril v Porto on Monday if strikers had taken their chances at Dortmund. The last five meetings in Estoril have saw both scoring and over 2.5 goals and their last three matches have gone over 2.5. Porto have conceded in four out five with all five going over 2.5 goals and I'm on both to score as a Super Single as it pays over evens.
In the Premier League it's Man United v Stoke and it won't be as thrilling as the Anfield battle. United are a best 2-9 to beat the managerless strugglers so finding value is difficult. Best bet could be United to win to nil at evens with McBookie but Stoke have scored in four of their last five visits to Old Trafford.
Caretaker boss Eddie Niedzwiecki, still in charge after Martin O'Neill turned down the job, is likely to want to keep it tight but if they conceded early it could be a heavy defeat. United -1 pays just 8-13 at bet365 while -2 is 17-10 at betfair.
Elsewhere Real Betis tackle Leganes and there are two Jupiler league games to look at as well as Lens v Sochaux in Ligue 2.

Cyrille Regis passed this morning aged 59. A club legend for WBA in the late 70’s. I remember being in junior school with a stack of figurine panini stickers, every playtime….. got, not got, got, not got every playtime until I filled that book. Him and Laurie Cunningham gave that team a huge presence in the league.
I guess some of us are getting to that age when players we idolized as kids are now coming to the end of their life.
Sad and 59 is obviously too young. I remember him well as brilliant striker.

The trouble is they cannot compete with the big four in the premier league,in terms of revenue etc etc i mean you don’t see Stoke city shirts being sold in Malaysia by the millions,they cannot attract top players so it is extremely hard to attract a top Manager,take Newcastle for example they have one of the best tactical Managers around and they have sheet on him,so they will find it hard to replace Benitez also.They should be grateful they are in the premier league although a club that is run well needs investment,but most of these owners take their percentages at the end of the season instead of ploughing the money back into the club.
What I would say is that we had him at wolves before we sacked him after last season. The guy is poor in honesty and Villa fans will second this from his time there. Good luck to him but things have looked up for us since we got rid. With the position stoke are in I’m uncertain that Lambert is the man to motivate them.
I’m a Wolves fan and I think a lot of the reception to Lambert’s appointment is a tad harsh.
He’s kept teams in the Premier League before. He’s played at the highest level and has a lot of connections abroad.
Wolves fans have had a right old laugh over this appointment and I don’t get it. He kept us in the division last year after he inherited a very unbalanced squad from Jackett and Zenga. He grabbed wins away at Stoke and Liverpool in the FA Cup. Sure he had his floors and his team selection policy was at times confusing, but he’d signed Ruddy and Bennett before he was dismissed, and I reckon he would have identified Douglas as a signing seeing that he’s Scottish also. I think with the right backing Lambert would have done alright with us this season – obviously not as good as Nuno thought – the guys unbelievable!
