Top Football Tips

MONDAY night was all about Man City as they edged out Leicester and on Tuesday it's Liverpool's turn to be in the spotlight.

City just need to beat Brighton away on Sunday to win a thrilling title race and I can't see them slipping up. At the start of the season I tipped a City/Pool one-two and that looks likely to come up.

Liverpool will still have hope but first of all they need to attempt to achieve a Champions League miracle.

After a first-leg 3-0 defeat at Barcelona I gave Jurgen Klopp's side a 10 per cent chance of making the Final but without Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino I'd say it's around one per cent.

Barcelona will be aiming to notch an away goal which means Liverpool would need five and without two of their three main strikers that's almost impossible. I've posted a Liverpool v Barcelona preview.

Elsewhere on Tuesday it's all about the Scottish League play-offs and I'm taking a chance on three away sides not to lose their first legs away from home.

Best bets could be Queen of the South at Montrose. Queens finished second bottom of the Championship after a horror run to the end of the season culminating in a 3-0 home defeat to Partick Thistle.

The Queens board reacted by sacking Gary Naysmith and tasking former boss Allan Johnston with the job of saving their skins. “Magic” is boosted by the availability of Stephen Dobbie who returned against Thistle but didn't look 100 per cent match fit.

Dobbie should be in better shape and it's remarkable the Championship Player of the Year and a striker with 40 goals this season could be in side relegated.

Montrose are tough to beat but finished 19 points off the pace so Queens should come through this tie if they can find their form. They are 17-10 with Betway but on an accumulator I'm having Queens not to lose at 4-9 with bet365.

Dobbie is 13-5 with Betway to score first and 10-11 to net at any time.

The Premiership quarter-final play-off sees Inverness travel to Ayr after edging above them at the weekend. ICT finished the season strongly and will be confident about coming through the tie having beaten Ayr three times this season with one draw.

John Robertson's men won both visits to Ayr – including one last month – and are 9-5 at bet365 to make it a hat-trick of wins at Somerset. Again I'm taking them not to lose on the treble at 11-20.

Finally add Clyde to avoid defeat at Edinburgh. Clyde did well to keep going after being docked four points for fielding an ineligible player – a defender they recalled from Clydebank of all clubs – and took the title race t the final day before going down to Cowdenbeath.

They finished seven points clear of City and like Inverness won both meetings away from home. In fact in six visits to the capital club they've won five and drawn one. Clyde are 17-10 at BetVictor to win and 8-15 at Betway not to lose.

Clyde also have a top-class striker who could make a difference. David Goodwillie has 21 goals this season and is 4-1 at McBookie to score first while City's prolific scorer Blair Henderson is 3-1 favourite.

Last night my Jamie Vardy to score Super Single cost me 1pt and a lack of goals at the Etihad downed the double.

Well done to all the winners including Greg with his over 3.5 goals Scottish Reserve League double.

    Agree with Mr f, and Greg about the 5 Scottish games . I am having a small stake on 5 draws . 3 x doubles. 4 x trebles . 1 x acca
The acca pays about 700/1 with Hills price boost . The trebles. and fours. with Marathon are better odds

Divock Origi to score two or more at 11/1
This lads playing for his Liverpool career at the moment and with Firmihno and Salah out it’s a great time to give Klopp something to think about,i don’t expect Liverpool to qualify as that’s impossible, but i do expect Liverpool to score a couple and with big signings imminent Origi should want to put on a show.

First legs can be cagey so I’m not confident about too many of them.
If I had to pick one it would be Raith v Forfar. Three out of four this season have landed with the other a 4-0 win for Raith early in the season before Forfar improved.
Raith have scored and conceded in their last six.

All this talk about liverpool not winning trophys this year is the biggest loada bull sh#t ive ever heard ov most off it is from man u supporters they are that sad about ther own team they have to hope liverpool fail but to be honest liverpool have been a sucess. Every1 knows football these days is all about money an entertainment so top 4 last year champions league final equals 💰. This year 2nd in league plus champions league semi final plus watching flawless football every match pure entertainment for the fans every fan gets ther moneys worth every game unlike some teams . One defeat all season, every supporter in thr world would love to watch ther team fight for premership title every year untill las game of season plus reach champions league semis or finals an the people an the people who say they wouldnt or its still a failure dont know wtf ther talking about. agree with most of this but football is about winning trophies not cash in the bank. as I said to macca on another thread, for me 90 odd points represents an outstanding league campaign, but if theres no trophy at the end of it mickey you cant say its been a success.

Post Ferguson theres always been a hoo haa about utd not winning the league, not getting top 4, losing out to medicore teams etc, finishing in top 4 and winning nothing, its endless. The world expects different.
To put it into context, Liverpool fans seem to think finishing in top 4 with nothing else is an achievement. Losing one league game all season and still not winning the league is a taunt from most others. You may as well lose 13 and still possibly finish in the top 4.
Sometimes these Liverpool fans need enlightening.

Apparently Derby have shown an interest in Aberdeen’s captain. I don’t know much about him. Anyone north of the border know anything about what he’s like, is he box to box, is he a brick wall, a creator? Whats your thoughts?

It’s old news up here – was reported a month ago when Shinnie went down to meet Lampard.
Will sign for Derby as long you’re not banned – seemingly he couldn’t do a pre-contract for that reason.
Been a really good player for Aberdeen. A 100 per cent guy, tough tackler – will get more cards than goals.
Surprised Rangers didn’t try to sign him and I know Aberdeen fans love him. Been in recent Scotland squads.

Derby’s Tom Lawrence is being investigated by the FA for deceiving a match official to win a penalty. I watched it at the time and still maintain VAR would of overturned it and he’d of been carded. A West brom player who earned a penalty to scrape a draw against Forest got a 2 match ban a few months back. I think the FA have a strong case against him, maybe he’ll get a 1 match ban as we were already 2-1 up, I think a 2 match ban would be harsh. There’s been lots of times when Derby’s attacking line have been fouled in the box, stayed on their feet, the attack came to nothing and play was not pulled back. Swings and roundabouts. I think if we lose Lawrence, we have either Holmes or Bennett to cover or we could see a bit of a personnel swap-around , but the swap-around is too much of a gamble.

Everybody cheats in the sporting world. If there was no cheaters, there’d be no fun.
Its the way of the world. Most players feign injury when going down, dont see anyone getting booked or sent off for play acting.Getting tackled & going down is part & parcel of the game and I for one, dont mind it at all.VAR is good for penalty box handballs and offsides but the rest,im all in.

The length of ban won’t be affected by the score at the time – it will be down his past record.

Liverpool season looks like it could be a disaster there 0-3 down to Barcelona in CL and with only one Premier League left to play and Liverpool 1pts behind Man City who sit top on 95pts, Liverpool under Klopp have nothing to lose tonight they’ve got to have a right good go at attacking to see if they can unsettle this Barcelona, As Anfield is a tight ground with fans on top of the players although the news that Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah will be unavailable comes as a huge blow to the home side. Barcelona rested nine players that started last week in 1st leg for there game on Saturday against Celta Vigo also had unused subs Coutinho on bench so there taking this match seriously so Barcelona win for me

      I thought we weren’t rivals Macca? 🤔
Yes our season is an utter disaster – haven’t said otherwise all season and it’ll be years if not a decade to get back to competing for the title I suspect.
I don’t think Liverpool’s season has been a disaster whatsoever, built on last year and have entertained everybody (including me dare I say it) but I’ve said it before and I will again, it’s not Liverpool we are laughing at – it’s the fans such as yourself.
A few months ago you were going to win the league and champions league double (which looked highly plausible) but now that you haven’t you’re back to poking fun at the disastrous season United have had.
Fair enough I suppose, people normally revert to type. Congratulations on being better than United this season – I’m sure you’ll remember it for years 😉
