FIRSTLY well done to anyone who picked a winner on difficult Europa League night.
There were a few on the site but myself, Greg and Jordan had a miserable time and it's why this tournament at this time of year is played for low stakes.
My Super Single was on Smylie Kaufman to beat Davis Love III and Retief Goosen but 53-year-old Love turned back the clock with 11 points in the modified stableford scoring system to win that threeball.
Anyway we move on and Friday night sees the English season kick off with two matches from the Championship – Nottm Forest v Millwall and Sunderland v Derby. Last night I said I liked Forest and Derby or Derby draw no bet but want to check latest team news.
Having done so I'm backing Derby draw no bet as the Super Single. They should win but there are rarely easy aways in the Championship. Sunderland were dire in losing 5-0 at home to Celtic at the weekend and the atmosphere on and off the pitch doesn't seem great.
Sunderland conceded 10 goals against three Scottish Premiership teams – Celtic, Hibs and St Johnstone – and that must be worrying for new boss Simon Grayson who is still without Paddy McNair, Duncan Watmore and Bryan Oviedo.
It's also day one in France and Monaco should beat Toulouse by at least two. Greg has posted tips on his favourite Ligue 2 as well as a German game and there are plenty of games to look at in the likes of Ireland, Switzerland and Scandinavia.
For a Top Treble I'm Monaco just to win, even though they've lost players such as Benjamin Mendy and Bernardo Silva, against a Toulouse side who picked up just two victories on the road last season and who have sold Martin Braithwaite to Middlesbrough for £10m. Monaco still have Kylian Mbappe and Thomas Lemar for now as well as Radamel Falcao. Mbappe is 4-1 at bet365 to score first.
Add Nottingham Forest draw no bet with Mark Warburton hoping to get of to a good start against the promoted men as he targets a play-off place. He'll be looking for big things from £1m signing Jason Cummings who is 5-2 at Paddy Power to net on his competitive debut.
And complete the treble with Bohemians at home to Bray. I've been backing against Bray for a few weeks due to their financial uncertainty and Bohs are in good form having won at Shamrock Rovers then Cork to shatter the leaders' unbeaten league record.
My main focus has been on anteposts and writing my Saturday Daily Record columns but I will add tips around lunchtime.
Remember to check out Welovebetting for their latest tips and video chat. They also have a good selection of English anteposts picked out.

Liking the look of the following tomorrow…
Forest DNB …I never back my own team normally but at even money for forest to win its a good price and a sell out at the city ground. Think forest have recruited well and been shrewd with their signings this pre-season and I expect them to surprise a few this year. (At least be a lot better than last year anyway!) I fancy us to win but will be going DNB for added security as still not a bad price.
Cork to win at (although lost week think will be back on track against a poor side.
Bohemians DNB against Bray again bit of added security but they should win as we know the issues Bray are having…
Monaco to win no comment needed
Sunderland vs Derby I am tempted with a Derby DNB as Sunderland do not seem at it at the moment and heard a lot of the Celtic game and they were a mess. But going to go over 1.5mgls as can see goals in this game.
The above gives odds with coral at 4/1. Which I think is in with a good shout… Touchwood ?
Great write up
How can Forest be anything else but shrewd in the transfer market? Don’t they still have financial fair play transfer penalty’s they have to adhere to or has that run out? They were limited to free and loan signings and no bigger weekly wage than £10k a week. Poor buggers slumming it 500k a year, my heart bleeds for footie players. I know Kris Commons was playing the ” I never wanted to leave Forest for Derby ” card…. Now he’s surplus to Celtics needs. Did he end up signing? Remember Forest survived by the skin of their teeth in the final game – final 10 mins – on goal difference.
I’m not too sure on Sunderland V Derby. Historically, Sunderland away always seem to be one of those damn sides that seems to tip the scales in the favour regards results against the Rams – well back before Roy Keane being one game from the sack – then playing Derby and stole a late late goal that sent him on the run that saw him surge up the table and end up champions. This seemingly poor turnout against them Sunderland seems to be well nailed on into the script.
Derby have had a big clearout. Martin is back, Bent is injured till xmas ( acl ), Forsyth on the left side is being a bit of a ” I wonder if we can replay him in a secondary role ” – Mr Utility player in pre-season, but we’ve also sold Hughes and Ince well below what they’re worth leaving a midfielder full of tenacious qualities and a winger that pushed Bent all the way for goals last season.
Derby have a more rigid back line and I desperately would love to see Keogh in central defence sent on his way. Pearce had done well all season, Shackell spent most of last season on the physio table and Derby’s talisman George Thorne is still a month or two from resuming training.
We were having a very good look at our players in pre-season, not sure on who will be starting yet, but the midfield has been shook up – the resigning of Huddlestone who is playing like he never left has been the walking brick wall we’ve needed for some time, and that’s not to forget his long throws and great long passing ability.
Martin needs better service, Nugent spooned a shot so far off target, it would of made Mike Bassets dad’s penalty kick at the scoreboard seem lightweight. I thing Nugent can deliver but when we have Vydra and Anya and a few others looking for that role, I do think we have better options.
The team seems more set up to be resilient, but I’m kinda worried about our end product in the final 1/3rd.
It might be that Sunderland get a good old ” welcome to the championship ” courtesy of Derby, but for the time being, I think the safest bet i’ll be laying pre-team news is a btts.
If Sunderland really are that bad, an early goal could put them on the back foot and we could see a one sided affair.
Teams in the first few games need to bed in, to adjust, both teams are in the same boat, both underachieving and now with a slightly trimmed down squad, there’s more chance for fringe players to get their chance to shine.
Will keep you posted with what news I can garner.
Rowett has already said that most of the games this season will be 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, I think the 4-2-3-1 will be on the cards tomorrow, more defensive.
Don’t know about the fair play but they paid more than £1m to Hibs for Cummings.
Commons is injured but rumoured to be going back to Hibs when he’s fit.
Forest have just got 15m for asombalonga ( bar a small amount going to Peterborough) They have no ffp penalties anymore, new owners who are a breath fresh air compared to the joke we had before and knows how to run a football club. That 15m means no ffp worries. Derby selling Hughes and Tom ince is for the same reasons to keep within ffp. Have spent 2m on darikwa Cummings 750-1m dowell youngster at Everton on loan (who they are raving about) McKay looks quality and will be a bargain also. Murphy 2m clever experienced signing and scores goals in this league…also got some very talented youth look out for Ben Brereton he is a talent. After last season mid table would be a step in the right direction but got a sneaky feeling we may be the dark horses this year…. (That’s now means we will get relegated now I have said that ??)
Morning gents,
I put up something of a preview ahead of Bury’s Saturday opener on yesterday’s thread and I’ll add another game I like the look of hailing from the hallowed National League North…
SALFORD VS. DARLO:
Two of last season’s top sides go head to head here – for those that don’t pay close heed to the NLN, you may look at the last encounter that saw Salford blow Darlington away 5-1 to seal a (doomed) play-off spot…but!
Shortly before that particular game, Darlo – after a cracking campaign – learnt that they were ineligible for a potential promotion on the grounds of their stadium not meeting requirements for the National League.
Darlo had pretty much maintained their grace up until that point but you could tell reality had hit heading into the game and the result was not (in my humble opinion) a fair reflection of the disparity between the two sides.
Don’t be put off by the big price, I’m confident The Quakers will once again be a force in the NLN and will be a good match against a very decent Salford side!
Interestingly, (and of note to anyone backing) they have launched a ‘phased’ £192,000 fundraising drive to meet the said criteria which will (if met) see them through a successful promotion campaign…a great story of ups and down and I’ve great admiration and feeling for the fan-owned club and their ongoing issues off the pitch.
Two selections here:
BTTS & OVER 2.5 MGS…20/21
???
BTTS 1ST HALF…3/1

Best of luck.
Avai never got the goal needed and apologies to anyone who followed ?
Better luck in the ladies late KO though:

4-1 at half-time and the price for 2 more looks way too good to pass up…
OVER 6.5 MGS…4/6

Just a quick note on early season bets – I mentioned the other day that it’s well worth holding back on regular staking plans until ‘truer’ patterns begin to emerge.
I’m sure everyone adds in the unknown factor into their betting patterns but for any that don’t, it’s an easy insurance excercise to keep the pot safe for when it matters!
As a general rule, I’ll ease back to half stakes until mid-September.
Best of luck with everyone’s teams (and bets) for the coming season.
It’s good advice – I’ll be trying to be more cautious too.
Yeah it’s good advice for sure, I’ll be the first to admit last season I got carried away with the new season and lost a fair whack. Much better to see how the first few games pan out, with small stakes.
It’s all down to having that control… which I struggle with at times!

Very rarely do i bet on friendlies and one of the main reasons is they can blow the whistle on 84 mins and you could be waiting for a goal or a corner and suddenly its full time, the bookies then win.I learnt this years ago so i never really touch them.On this occasion though i couldn’t see any other outcome friendly or not (i know it easy to say because the game has finished)but it didn’t matter what team city put out as they don’t have a second string team.Anyway to call someone a mug punter when you are posting 5 team accumulators is a bit cheap to say the least,i would say you are the mug here but hey dont take it personal ok our lid.
A man tipping FRIENDLIES calling someone tipping an accer a mug ???? might start keeping totals for these 5 team money back accers now to see how profitable( or not) they can be. I know they were the tail end of last season

Morning gents
It’s felt like the longest summer ever but good to have proper football back!
Two doubles from tonight
Union Berlin v Holstein KO 5.30pm
Early days in the second tier in Germany but Union are already trying to justify why they will be one of the favourites for this legaue! They host newly promoted Holstein who despite a decent draw last week, this will be a tough assignment and im taking The hosts toe make it two wins from two
Sunderland v Derby KO 7.45pm
It’s been a miserable summer for the black cats, relegated, no money, best players leaving, then there’s the pre season results which Included two hammering by Scottish opposition ( 3-0 and 0-5 against St Johnstone and Celtic respectively) – Derby have lost a couple of key man but have managed to keep the core of last years team! Nothing to suggest Sunderland are going to win this
Union Berlin to Win
Derby not to lose
Double pays 8/5 (Betfred)

To stand any chance at the title, Warriors must improve on their recent form and have to go for it today. They currently sit 4th. Hougang have done OK, against mixed opposition, but after 4 draws on the bounce are looking to notch a win, on home turf.
I think both teams are going to go for it, and am backing both teams to score, and overs as 2 singles. Waiting for in play odds to increase though, as they are currently at 4/7 and 1/2 respectively.
Warriors scored already. Will see how next 10 mins pan out

Eintracht Braunschweig v Heidenheim 2.30pm
Braunschweig scored 50 goals last season, 35 of them at home. They beat today’s opponents 3-2 back in March and only missed out on promotion after losing the Promotion/Relegation Playoffs to Wolfsburg. They managed to scored twice last weekend at Dusseldorf and I expect them to do so again in today’s match.
Heidenheim are certainly no push-overs but their first competitive match of the season only lasted 15 mins and was abandoned due to torrential rain. They have also lost two important players in Kleindienst and Jankowski.
Eintracht Braunschweig over 1.5 tg 5/4 Coral 6 points
Guys – thoughts on the German Super Cup tomorrow?
Dortmund v Bayern
Given Bayern have had such an awful pre-season tour, surely Dortmund have as good a chance as ever? Dortmund’s pre-season friendlies weren’t amazing, but they have shown something that Bayern haven’t pre-season, and that is the ability to put the ball in the back of the net
Dortmund are 2/1 to win and I’m rather tempted….
Bayern have been really poor and as you say Dortmund tempt but some teams come alive when pre-season ends.
Alex you are right 2/1 looks tempting.. the game is at Dortmund and Bayern have a lot of injury problems but as you said Dortmund’s pre-season form hasn’t been great. I would go for Dortmund to win the trophy at 5/4.
I’m not sure but if I remember correctly it will go straight to penalties if it’s a draw after 90 mins.. in that case I would go for Dortmund draw no bet or d/c..
Cheers. Everything I’ve seen of Bayern so far has been really poor, and just fancy Dortmund to make the most of the opportunity.
Plus Neuer is definitely out, and Alaba and Thiago unlikely.
For Dortmund Reus is out injured, but Aubameyang is playing.
Bets to consider;
Dortmund win 2/1 (Skybet)
Dortmund draw no bet 6/5 (Skybet) *I’m on this*
Dortmund Over 1.5 team goals – 11/8 (Skybet) *I’m on this*
Neuer,Alaba, Boateng, Robben,Thiago,Bernat and James all out!
Really. It was already settled in my mind, so that’s even better to hear!
Yeah the only with a slight chance is Alaba but it’s unlikely. Bernat and James are expected to be out for over two months!

SUNDERLAND VS. DERBY:
Could be a low scorer this one with Sunderland an unknown entity heading into the campaign – I’ll stick with what I do know and that is the fact ex-Shaker James Vaughan loves a booking!
He’ll be looking to impress the home crowd and isn’t afraid of mixing it up a bit – should he score you’ll see his trademark ‘Cantona-style’ flying kick at the corner flag which might also add to his bookings tally at this level.
Two bets with low stakes:

I’ve actually gone for;
Vaughn to score + Derby win @ 12/1
and I’m tempted to put my free £5 bet on Vaughn + Cattermole to be carded @ 9/1 – thoughts?
Have gone for it
I still cant get 9/1 Vaughn to score and be carded. I might go along with you alex. on your 9/1 shot.
Yeah as I already went for a Vaughn + Derby, didn’t want to go on him to score again, hence the card one. Cattermole isn’t shy of a foul. He only played 8 times last season and managed 4 yellows, top lad.
Still there under ‘Score and Booked’ tab (I’m on mobile)…9/1
Cheers Hull it is not under RABs . i will just stick my free bets on the game. Good luck.

A little heads up for sundays chrity shield game between Arsenal v Chelsea, there will be most people here backing Chelsea to win this at 6/5 but i think differently and i also think chelsea will be nowhere near retaining there premier league title but thats just my opinion. For me Chelsea haven’t done enough in the transfer market and the sale of matic has astounded me to say the least and to sell to a premier league rival is madness,so thats one top player gone and also the missing Hazard who will also be a massive miss, you don’t lose players like these and not suffer and thats why i will be on the gunners to hand Conte his first defeat of the season and at 9/4 i think they are massive price to do so.

Thank god we’ve ditched the picture of Shrek on the daily tips thread, and whilst Harry Kane is a big improvement, I still think a pic of Olympic diver Tonia Couch would of been far far better.
Anyway, on to tonight’s business of the Sunderland v Derby game. I was right about Sunderland record against the Rams. Derby have NEVER beaten them at the stadium of light since it was built and we’ve only beaten them once in 19 trips to the north east. I think it’s around 37 years or so.
I think that tonight is as good a time to play them as any. Been looking at the stats, the pre season results but really been looking at the last couple of matches.
Sunderland well beaten twice by St Johnstone 3 nil and 5 nil by Celtic. No goals in reply.
Derby were not conclusively beaten in both of their last matches. I think it was 2-1 against us and I think we did equalise from a goal down on both counts. In the last game, Hoffenheim conceded a penalty to us with the score at 1 nil to the visitors, it was turned around the corner. Hoffenheim grabbed a late winner, but in both games, we dominated possession, stats, everything.
Now there is this issue of Darren Gibson of Sunderland ” p*ssed ” in the pub slagging off his own team mates just 4 days ago. Great for moral that is.
Derby started pre season training 2 weeks ahead of everyone else and players on their summer hols were given a diet to follow and a fitness programme to work on away from regular training – I guess to give them a head start on the early start to training. This ” holiday ” training package was checked on to ensure players took it seriously. I think Derby could well be 10% fitter than that which would be expected.
Early doors, my gut told me – based on our results in pre-season, we’re likely to score and concede. So btts is probably the way forward, however, I am quietly confident that the Rams should be walking away with the spoils. We’re still not entirely sure on who will line up, the main Derby sports writer has his opinion on the line-up but I am reluctant to post that as it will be just speculation.
The radio has said we’ll get team news at 6:30pm. BUT for evening kick offs they usually make us wait until 7pm.
My radio is on and as soon as I get the news, i’ll share.
Derby team news:
Carson
Wisdom/Keogh/Davies/Forsyth
Butterfield/Huddlestone/Johnson
Russell/Martin/Weimann
its the same team that played against Hoffenheim.
I’m still not convinced Keogh should even be in the side, let alone be skipper, we’ve got better central defenders and we have more suitable candidates for captain.
Derby sports writer got just 1 player wrong on his expected line-up. He thought Bryson would get the nod ahead of Butterfield, but Butterfield has worked his socks off in pre- season, so I guess it is his shirt to lose rather than Brysons to gain.
The 4-3-3 is a bit of a surprise, I thought we’d go more defensive with a 4-2-3-1, I guess the gaffer thinks we have enough in the tank to take the win so we’re set up formation wise to go for it.
Surprise surprise Sunderlands Darren Gibson has been dropped to the bench.
I’m having a separate bet on this match and dropping £18 on the straight win @ 15/8 with bet365.
I anticipate that Derby will take the game to them and I believe we will rule the roost on the corners count. So long as Sunderland also pitch in with them, I can see this being 10, 11, 12 + corners in total. I also think that an early Derby goal could start an avalanche and turn this match messy ( cards ).
best of luck folks
Good luck – don’t see that Derby team losing.

Dead even, quite disappointed the way Sunderland came out 2nd half, Vaughan still managed to put a volley an inch wide and smash the post but weren’t to be…
Well by all accounts that was a poor night BOHEMMIANS AND SHAMROCK SO DISSAPOINTING
The latter pounded Derry all night 18 shots OFF target fs.time to sign a striker me thinks.WELL DONE ALL WINNERS.

Won but Bohemians DNB so not full full profit but profit still…? How forest won that game I don’t know they certainly had Lady Luck on their side and Milwall will feel sick they didn’t at least get a point… Forest will play a hell of lot better this season and lose, so that’s football I suppose. I will be staring at the top of the championship until 3pm tomorrow and making the most of it as it won’t happen again this season ??
Still a good shout well done mate.
Cheers mate and nice one on your win too ??
Finn harps v galway btts 4-5.

Kawasaki and Tokyo both see their highest corners home and away respectively so I’m taking the corner line on.
Over 9.5 corners 1.80
Aston Villa v Hull
I’m hoping to see another tense championship opener in which neither team will want to lose . If Aston Villa dictate this game we could see a low scoring game.
Under 2.25 AH Goal Line 1.80
