BOOKIES were cornered by HullShaker and his posse on Thursday night as friendly results were unusually friendly.

England and Portugal romped to victories and there were plenty of winners on the site.

HullShaker – later making it a full house with Ghana beating their goal time – landed two corner bets on the England game, Greg Browning posted England and France Under-20s as an 11-10 double and my Daily Double won for the third night in a row.

I backed under 2.5 goals at England and Portugal to win for a 6-4 double but I didn't risk points on it.

There are more friendlies tonight and Germany should win to nil against Saudi Arabia, the lowest-ranked qualifiers, in Leverkusen. The Germans haven't won in five and Joachim Low will be keen for his men to pick up a confidence booster and I'm backing them to win to nil.

Add Switzerland to beat Japan in Lugano. Vladimir Petkovic's side have conceded just one goal in five matches and should be too strong for an outfit whose new boss Akira Nihino, who replaced Vahid Halildohdzic in April, started with a 2-0 defeat to Ghana earlier in the week.

Go with the double or make it a treble by adding under 2.5 goals at Croatia v Senegal. Zlatko Dalic's side have grabbed only one goal in four matches since qualifying in the play-offs with a 0-0 draw against Greece. Senegal are tough to beat and have conceded just two goals in their last six matches.

Other games include Poland v Chile and Lithuania v Iran and apart from Irish matches there's not much else on the go.

Remember to check out welovebetting for their latest tips and chat.

Top Treble

  • Croatia v Senegal under 2.5 goals (3pm)
  • Switzerland (6pm)
  • Germany to win to nil (6.30pm)

Good arrows there @hullshaker on the corners last night, I counted 3 inside the first 9 mins, so that first one was in the bag and then some to set up the overs with lots of time left.

This past few days I’ve really struggled to find some meat on the bone but I did pick up England over 1.5 team goals @ 8/13 doubled up with a Portugal win @ a miserly 2/9. That double took my bank to around £77.

I then tried my luck in South America with Fluminense v Flamengo. I took a nibble on a double on that game, over 1.5 total goals and over 8.5 corners. That sailed in to give me an enhanced £144.38 to play with today.

I’ve been trying to find something i’m a little more confident in and usually, I take a punt on Irish footie, but I just don’t like the way the games look.

So Switzerland V Japan. The swiss are obvious favourites but am I missing something here? The investment in Japanese league football and Korea since they hosted the world cup 12 years ago? Has been massive, some big players from the far east have regularly played featured for some top end European clubs, but since I support a club in the 2nd tier, I’ve had less of my focus on the big leagues so maybe the golden period of far east football has come to an end. Japan were terrible at football, I remember a friendly around 2000 when France were ranked number 1 having won the WC and they played Japan in a friendly. France were 1/20 for the win and it was the 12th component of £80+ worth of acca’s. Japan were ranked 200th, the lowest fifa ranking and with 70 mins on the clock, Japan were 2 up. France did the ” lets throw on 10 subs for the last 15 and get something from the game “. France scraped a 2-2 in the end but no cigar for me. Still, 2 hours in Ladcrooks struggling to tally up my winning, done about a dozen times, they had to pay me the highest tally they came up with. It was my first big win and the 2nd time in my life i’d missed a break the bookie moment in a monster acca. Still, I walked away with just shy of £1200 and whilst they were buggering about with adding up my winnings, I took another £500 from their roulette machines. I’m sure most of us have had a day like that.

Anyway, is there any reason why Japan are vastly outsiders on this one? I know Basel and Young boys get regular European footie and the swiss footie isn’t that far behind most of European top tiers, or is it something much more simpler – like artificial football pitches that will play into this one?

    Thoughts anyone please?

As I point out today the Swiss are remarkably ranked 6 in the world.
It’s not an accurate reflection of their ability but they’re doing something right and won 9 out of 10 qualifiers then were lucky against Northern Ireland in the play-offs.
They’ve been unbeaten since, including a draw with Spain, so are tough to beat.
Only one player in the squad plays in Switzerland – Basel’s Michael Lang – so don’t get mixed up with the international side and domestic league.
About half play with good German teams.
Japan are in a bit of disarray after changing manager in April and struggle to score against top opposition.
Shinji Kagawa and Keisuke Honda are still their main men in attack but are maybe past their best.
Bookies for me are correct to price up the Swiss as big favourites.

    • Avatar of Sam Hill

Switzerland seems to be one of the best teams in this preparation period. The team has handy squad, managed to play a very dominant football against Greece and Panama, and showed how well they could defend against a team like Spain.., Japan made a radical decision before this tournament, changed the coach and agreed with Akira Nishino. Nishino’s most prominent feature is his ability to defend very well.
Under 2.5 & Swiss win looks solid here.

Macca, I think Shaqiri is a decent player but if Liverpool want to really challenge next season they are going to have to do better than that and splash the cash on a couple of key players

    Afternoon gents –

Not fancying any of the friendlies today but I have had a good look at the Austrian lower leagues. By no means an expert on this league but it’s usually good for goals and there are a couple that stand out

    ?? ??
St Anna V Leoben DSV KO 6pm
Feldkrichen v St Jacob KO 6pm

Been no shortage of goals in St Anna’s games this season – 12 of their last 15 have seen over 2.5 goals with an incredible 24 goals being scored in their last four matches. They narrowly missed out on promotion but would still expect them to score a few today against a side who have seen 11 of their last 12 matches go over 2.5 goals

Another side who have seen plenty of goals ( for and against) is Feldkrichen – 7 of their last 8 games at home have seen over 2.5 goals and they okay a side who are tying to get out of the relegation play off positions. Fancy both sides to score here.

Back over 2.5 match goals double 11/10 (Bet365) (NAP)

    ****************************

    Mannswörth v Ostbahn XI 6.30pm

This game is a bit of a head scratcher in terms of how the bookies have priced this game

? Mannswörth sit on 33 points, one point above the relegation play off positions

?Ostbahn sit on 22 points, occuppying second bottom and just one point above automatic relegation

The match is crucial for both clubs

The hosts have won 4 of their last 5 home games scoring 11 goals and they play a side with the opposite record. Ostbahn have lost 4 of their last 5 scoring a just once

    Here comes the quandary:

    Home win 9/2
    Away win 4/11

None of that makes any sense given league positions, form and the fact both sides need points here. I often say the bookies don’t often get it wrong but they do from time time and I like to take advantage when they do. Can’t find any other info but be good to hear any other views.

Yes Ostbahn need the points more bit doesn’t meant they should be 4/11 againstb sode who are in better form and are strong at home

    Mannswörth to win 9/2
    Mannswörth Double chance 2/1

Quick post for the weekend. Rugby & a great UFC 225 card!
    Rugby:
The Boks have a new coach finally & should improve but lots of new combos & his hands are still tied by government policies unfortunately so gotta fancy Eng. Happy to take the points though. In the other Tests, Ireland should sneak a win against the Aussies & France should keep it respectable vs NZ as they have a decent defense & its the 1st game of the series.
    Eng +3.5 (5/6). England over 25.5 points (5/6)
Ireland win (5/6). NZ under 40.5 points (5/6). Double of England +9.5 & Ireland +5.5 (Evens)
    Argentina/Japan double (15/8)
    UFC:
    Tuivasa/Gadelha/Smith treble (5/4). RDA win (11/10). Over 1.5 rounds in the Punk/Jackson fight (4/5)
Long shots: Benavidez/Coulter double (5/4). Anderson (15/8). Blaydes/Smith fights both not to go the distance double (8/5). Tuivasa via 1st round KO when the market comes out.
Thinking about taking Romero at great odds given his knockout power & this his final shot at the belt…..but Whittaker was injured in the 1st fight & still won. If he gets through the 1st 2 rounds then he’ll will go on to win plus you’d get great odds in-play on Bobby Knuckles as Romero should win the 1st round or 2. Enjoy!

Quick post – just in and struggling for time hence the brief reasoning but could be a golden nugget of SA value for the Night Owl…

    LONDRINA VS. JUVENTUDE (2315 KO):

Londrina are the hot favourites here but they’ve conceded in the last 4 consecutive games and have just 1 win in 6.

Juventude are in a similar vein of form but have scored in 8 of their last 9 games – add in the fact that 3 of the last 5 H2H’s have seen both teams netting and the price looks a touch on the generous side:

Wouldn’t worry too much – just going through the motions in a friendly.
They usually turn up when it matters.

Well the Germans conceding and only scoring 2 goals let a lot of us down including myself but on a brighter note, beautiful goal by Lewandowski left foot outside the box. Managed to get evens on anytime scorer on skybet.
    Lewandowski to score. Winner.

Cracking stuff yesterday Mr F – been a long day and just catching up!

Bury on tour – brings back horrendous memories of my wayward youth days…at least you’ll be able to spot the Gigg massive – all 6 of them piled in a taxi, half-cut, sweating and seeking out haggis as a methadone-like substitute for black pudding ?

After much umming and arrrring, my bets for tomorrow’s test matches.

    Australia v Ireland

Ireland are resting 6 of their best players and with home advantage this gives the Aussies the edge. The Irish will employ a tight forwards game, peppering the Aussies with high balls. This tactic might bite them in the ass with some quality catchers in the Aus backline who like a run. Aus have been much improved recently, breaking the hold that NZ had on them since the whitewash by England. Definite value in:

    Australia ML
    1.95 @ bet365

    South Africa v England

Tough one to call this with SA only two games in with a new coach and England playing like a bunch of f*cking girls. One of them being Mike Brown who was exposed by the Barbarians could have a tough game against the speed of Sbu Nkosi. A try for Nkosi looks good value:

    Sbu Nkosi ATGS
    2.50 @ bet365

One game and one bet I really like the look of tomorrow…

    VALUR VS. KA (1800 KO):

I’ll keep things simple and whilst Valur are certainly one of the better Urvalsdeild sides this last 2 years, the ‘team’ bet that sticks out a country mile when I follow their fortunes comes from the corner markets.

I’ve highlighted it plenty of times and although corners aren’t my favoured approach, situations/team styles ,at times, certainly lend themselves to it…when I do select this market, they’re not often stats based but more formed by observations over time.

Sometimes instinct and familiarity builds up a better picture than statistics and I’m leaning on that here:

    OVER 11 MATCH CORNERS…10/11
    ???

    Best of luck ?

Late post for the Night Owl but could be well worth looking at…

    GOIÁS VS. PAYSANDU (0030 KO):

So, the hosts start around 67/100 favourites…I’m not convinced that’s right and once again, the back door may be left propped open for some value here.

Not only have Goias conceded in every one of their last 10 games but Paysandu are in fine fettle having scored (and won plenty) in every one of their last 12 matches.

    One selection to consider:

    BTTS…EVENS
    ???

    ?
