THERE is a huge card on Tuesday with the Champions League play-offs taking pride of place.

Hoffenheim v Liverpool is game of the night and I've posted a separate Champions League preview with tips on several ties.

Earlier I put up my Super Single and after the way Liverpool played at Watford it's hard not to see past goals even if it is a first leg. Hoffenheim are much stronger at home – unbeaten in the Arena Stadium last season – and will be desperate to take a lead to Anfield.

Equally Jurgen Klopp will see the value in an away goal and the way his decided defended at Vicarage Road attack could be his best form of defence. So I'm on both to score and over 2.5 goals at evens.

Elsewhere tonight there is a tough Championship card to look at. Middlesbrough are likely winners at home to Burton but it's a night to look at goals as opposed to WDW.

There are is big non-league card as well as the dreaded EFL Trophy matches and again the latter should be ignored unless you see stats that suggest goals.

In Scotland the Challenge Cup is treated seriously by some sides simply because it can bring in a few coffers if you reach the latter stages. Premiership yoith sides are involved and Welsh and Irish clubs will enter the fray and last season TNS reached the semi-finals before losing to St Mirren.

Dundee United were eventual winners and start the defence of their trophy at home to Cowdenbeath. They will be probably be at half strength and should win and I'm taking a chance on Dunfermline, Raith and Qos at home on a moneyback fivefold with Middlesbrough and tomorrow Olympiakos. I will put up a post about this.

All in all it's not an easy card but I've been studying stats RFO before putting up tips and reasoning for the goals bet is on a separate post.

Last night I was beaten by Ronny Deila and probably not for the first time. Valerenga's draw downed my Top Treble before Hertha Berlin and Benfica won later on.

Well done to Greg on his Fana-Odd 11 tips and to anyone else who posted a winner.

Looking ahead to the weekend, with my free £20 bet i have picked out the following ‘bankers’. All looks good on paper so fingers crossed it can give me a nice boost as i head to Ibiza on a stag this Sunday.

    Monaco
    Man Utd
    Aberdeen
    Hibs
    Rangers
    Napoli

You have to fancy the three Scots although it will be interesting to see how Rangers react to losing to Hibs.
Hearts may have a new manager in place by then too.
      Good luck with the bet.

I think all 3 of them will be good value to back this season, all 3 look like they have goals in them.
Weekend is far off but wanted to get on before the odds shortened further.

No midweek selections as of yet, English and champs league looks to be a minefield. Need to do more research tomorrow, or if anyone has any strong fancies…

Tuesday sees plenty of lower league action and like the look of these although no time for much reasoning…

    YORK VS. DARLO:

Two teams that will be pushing for promotion this season and both have been in the goals so far – a combined total of the 6 games involving the two has seen 22 goals so far…I reckon the bookies are giving too much respect to York.

    Brentford v Bristol city

Brentford had a good pre season but were showing signs of defensive problems through out and have continued that trend by conceded too many since the season started but have been able to score a few as well, Bristol city have been scoring goals for fun but are not consistent Brentford manager dean smith says that the bees need to start winning and if they play to their potential they should get maximum points tonight but a safer bet for me is btts and no draw at 11/10 with williamhill.

I’m off to China with today’s tip in the China FA Cup. It’s a Shanghai derby with Shenhua playing Shenxin. Shenhua are in dire form in the top league whereas Shenxin are currently playing some decent football.

With Shenhua having conceded 8 in their last 2, I see Shenxin grabbing a vital away goal here today. However with Martins and Tevez up front, Shenhua should be able to score against their lower league opponents.

Tonight I’m staying closer to home and running with a -1 handicap double.

Linfield started the season with a 2-0 win at home to Carrick Rangers. Tonight they play an Ards team that shipped 6 against Cliftonville in a 6-3 defeat. Linfield are easily one of the top 2 teams in the league so they should have no problem beating Ards tonight.

Next, Crusaders welcome Warrenpoint to Seaview where thanks to the artificial pitch, the Crues rarely lose. A good 4-1 victory at the weekend against a decent Ballymena team means the Crues enter this game in good form.

Got a speculative bet on the championship. Although not much to go off, the selection of games seems too good to totally ignore.

    Millwall v Ipswich
Ipswich are one of the 4 teams to win both their opening games and come up against a Millwall side who drew 1-1 at home to promoted Bolton on the weekend. Ipswich have won the last 2 h2h’s by a 2 goal margin and can hopefully put in a decent performance tonight.

    Barnsley v Nottingham
Nottingham are another of the 4 to have won both their opening games, and conceeded 3 at the weekend away to Brentford. Barnsley have been on the score sheet in both their games so far and have also put a goal away in their homes games V Nottingham for as long as flashscores shows (11games).

Singapore Reserve League – 12.45pm – generally a good league for goals.

Geylang International Reserves v Balestier Khalsa Reserves

Think this fixture should see goals, given Geylangs scoring form. Their last 9 games have seen 3+ match goals. Geylang are league leaders, playing bottom of the table Balastier. Whilst Balastier’s away form has not been great (of the last 9 games; 2W, 1D, 6L) they’ve managed to score in 8 of these 9 games. Geylang have not kept a clean sheet for 11 games in a row (note: BTTS in this game is 1/2).

Last time these two played was in May, and Geylang (playing at home again) won 5-1.

Odds for Overs (2.5 and 3.5) are pretty poor (way below EVENS) so I’m going to chance there being a couple of earlier goals before half time, and another I like the look of.

Do recommend low stakes on this.

It looks like much of my picks align with what Hullshaker has already posted, but I’ll still throw up the write-ups!

One game that may see some fireworks occurs between two sides expected to finish towards the peak of the National League North table come the end of the season. Darlington have started the season with three wins from three, replicating their scoring form of last season but once again showing signs of defensive frailties when conceding 3 at home to Gainsborough and conceding in the opening minute against Alfreton on the weekend.

York started with a disappointing result when beat 1-0 by Telford. Match reports indicate that York absolutely dominated the game and were met with a keeper in inspired form. They crashed the woodwork a few times but could not find the net. They have corrected that since, winning 2-0 at Blyth before putting 5 past Bradford Park despite missing veteran striker Jon Parkin. The York manager switched from 3-4-3 to 4-3-3 for their two wins and hopes it’s a formation they can stick with throughout the season.

In a clash of two ambitious sides, I fancy both sides to score. York have conceded just the 1 against Telford but I don’t think I’d ever back against this Darlo side netting. However, this game could very much be a case of laying down a marker for the season, and expect both sides to turn up.

    York v Darlington BTTS @ 8/11 (Bet365)
    _________________________________

In the southern sphere, Truro host Bath City in a meeting of two sides with very opposite starts to the season. Truro have scored 8 in their opening 3 and remain unbeaten. On the weekend, they score two late goals despite earlier missing a penalty, looking set for their third win on the bounce before conceding with the last kick of the game.

Bath have already managed to ship 10 goals, including 5 at home to promoted Chippenham Town, in their opening 3. They gave a much better account of themselves when narrowly losing to Chelmsford on the weekend, but look set for a tough midweek trip tonight. The Truro boss has urged his side not to become complacent after their strong start and, despite sides being prone to inconsistency at this level, they should be seeing this as the perfect opportunity to extend their unbeaten run and scoring form – and are available at good value to do so, too.

However, I’m going to pair them up with two other sides I like to net tonight in Fylde and Gainsborough. Fylde have been covered by myself on the weekend and plenty already for tonight, while I like Gainsborough’s scoring profile. They have netted inside the first 20 minutes in all 3 starts this season, while Blyth have conceded early in all of their games, too. It may be a case of ‘fast-starters’ against ‘slow-starters’ – Gainsborough should net here, which they managed to in most home games last season despite only narrowly avoiding relegation.

    Truro City
    Gainsborough

    Afternoon gents

A huge card tonight – have picked out a double and a Scottish and English goals 4 folds

    Barnsley v Nottingham Forest

It’s been some start for Warburtons forest side, 6 points from their opening two games, goals scored and a trip to a Barnsley side who even at this early stage of the season look as if they are going to be in for a regegarion dog fight. A trip to Oakwell is always tough but I don’t see this Forest side leaving empty handed

    QOS v Airdrie

Things get bad to worse Airdrie, they have financial worries, haven’t won yet this season and have just sold last years top goal scorer to Dunfeemline. They travel south to play a QOS side who have managed a great coup in getting St Johnstone striker Chris Kane on loan. Alongside him is another ex Saint who is a goal King for QOS – they perform well at home and have starred the season brightly. Taking the home win here against an Airdrie side who I think it’s going to be a long hard season for

Can’t disagree with the only stand out game being Middlesbrough, the rest are nightmare to predict. Burton impressed me a week ago in the cup but fell very short of the mark away to Hull. It surprised me because Burton tend to know how to park the bus against bigger teams and grab an unlikely 1 nil.
Likewise my own beloved Derby were constantly on the back foot against a much improved Wolves and we deservedly lost 2 nil at home. We were firing more blanks than Boycie at the weekend. Huddlestone looks like he’ll be out for a week or two and the gaffer is looking at a major frontal shake-up.
Names such as Nugent, Bryson, Anya and Vydra are being thrown in to the mix, although Vydra still isn’t confirmed as match fit. So who’s going to sit this one out? Weimann on the left wing looked busy at the weekend with very little else up front looking like it was clicking, I wouldn’t be surprised if Russell and Martin end up on the bench.
The only thing we have going for us are the terrible away stats Preston have away to Derby, I think they’re winless in the last 7 or 8 attempts.

If we managed to make something click ( that damn midfield to front 3 attack linkage again that plagued us for the last few seasons ) – we could see a turn around in fortune from our very limp 1 point from the first 2 games this season.

On a side note, I ground out a £10 to £30.94 on Sunday with wins for Man Utd and Tottenham + another I forget.
Yesterday I picked out Arsenal U23 away to Derby U23’s, Galatasaray and Benfica. Derby grabbed a 2 goal lead and 2x 2nd half goals saw Arsenal right back in it and home and dry with a 3-2 win. Galatasaray were 3-1 up by ht but never ran riot in the 2nd half, that stayed the same till ft and Benfica made me sweat by notching the only goal in injurytime.

    New bank balance £142.22.

My focus is very much on Middlesbrough, BUT I might add an overs corners bet to that on that match, and if I like the look of changes made tonight at the Ipro, I might add a Derby win and go high again on the corners market. Failing that, I might have a punt on which Derby player takes the best throw-in !! Judging by my luck, i’ll miss out on that since it’ll probably be awarded to the mascot Rammie !!

I’m looking for some advice if you could oblige. I was having issues with my Bet365 app on my phone this afternoon so I logged on on my laptop. I then placed 2 bets which were:

    Kalju o4.5tg

    Infonet o1.5tg
    Kalju o3.5tg
    Double

I just checked my bets section to see that these bets have been settled as losers with the Kalju bets having been processed as first half goals. I’m absolutely certain I selected team goals as it’s in a section of its own.

Where do I stand on this? I have emailed Bet365 but no doubt they will claim it’s a load of tosh and I selected first half goals which I definitely didn’t.

    • Avatar of Nath
      nathanufton 7 years ago

check your bet history of settled bets, that will tell you what you bet on, then use something like flash score to confirm your results, if your anticipated outcome is backed up by the result and they’ve made a cock up, ring them and tell them.

    • Avatar of Mervin
      mervin 7 years ago

My bet history states o3.5 and o4.5 first half goals which I absolutely wouldn’t bet on. Maybe its my mistake and I did back first half goals but I’m pretty certain I selected team goals

    • Avatar of Alex Ewart
      alex_mufc83 7 years ago

Unfortunately I don’t think the settled bet section can be wrong Mervin, must have just been a mistake. Happens to us all very occasionally and it sucks

    • Avatar of Mr Fixit
      Mr Fixit 7 years ago

It’s a difficult one because of course you can’t prove you didn’t place the bets and also it’s an easy mistake to make.
If you have never placed first-half goals bets with them they may refund your stake on appeal but if the bet had won they’ll say you’d have been happy to take the winnings.

    • Avatar of Mervin
      mervin 7 years ago

Yeah I understand what their standpoint would be. What makes it worse is that they both landed after I messaged Bet365 with 5 points on each :\ Ahh well there’s not much I can prove unfortunately. My only hope is they see there was issues with their site at the time but I doubt they’ll admit that.

    Derby team news:

3 changes to the starting 11 that lost against Wolves along with a formation change.

    4-2-3-1

Out goes Forsyth in left back – in comes Olssen
Out goes Butterfield – in comes Vydra
Out goes Martin – in comes Nugent

    Carson
    Wisdom/Keogh/Davies/Olssen
    Johnson/Huddlestone
    Russell/Vydra/Weimann
    Nugent

Took a look at the bench, whilst we do have the likes of Bryson, Martin and Bennett, most of the rest looks defence orientated.
2 holding midfielders and 3 feeding Nugent. I’m yet to be convinced of Nugent wearing a rams shirt, 10 years ago, he gave us the middle finger saying we were not a big enough club for him. I’m guessing he’s come that far down the pecking order on ” bigger ” clubs that he’d have to come and slum it on 20k a week with us poor buggers who can only get around 29-30,000 fans a week in our tiny ground. Until he puts in a shift and starts grabbing a bag full on a regular basis, I’ll still be highly sceptical of him.

Prestons terrible record against us at our ground is the only stat going for Derby that could point to a home victory. I also think its sensible to believe that should a victory come for the rams, we’ll have to do it with our starting 11.

Bets I like the look of tonight are:

    Middlesbrough win
    Hull btts
    Forest win
    Derby win

the first, I’m 5/5 confident they’ll win, Hull btts and Forest win – 4/5 confident, Derby win 3.5/5 confident.

Having had a look at the champions league matches tomorrow and I love having a flutter on cards in these matches. These matches are the last obstacle from group stages and the teams have everything to play for.

The Apoel and young boys matches are both being supervised by Spanish ref’s and we all know Spanish ref’s are good for high card counts. Apoel are a tough team and with their hot intimidating stadium we should hopefully see a fiesty match.

The Swiss will be geared up at home against the Russians and again I expect cards.

Both matches over 4.5 cards. Singles just above Evens.

    Hoffenheim v Liverpool

Everyone already know about Hoffenheim and the amazing season they had to finish fourth in Bundesliga. If i didnt look at the odds I would say thats a straight forward Liverpool win! Its a strange one because Liverpool are 31/20 to win but only 4/11 to qualify. Perhaps its down to their record against German teams at Anfield. Liverpool have never lost to a german team at home and they would hope to take a lead to Anfield to make their job little bit easy in second leg. However, Klopp has put out the same team tonight that started against Watford. As much as I love seeing the liverpool attack teams with pace and counter attack I think they are rubbish at defending (sometimes very simple balls). I think its more down to their play style rather than their Center halves. Hoffenheim also know how important it is to win tonight to have any chance to qualify for group stage. The villagers lost their 2 best players to Bayern and I’m not sure how they will be same team without them. They have signed Gnabry on loan from Bayern though who was terrific for Werden Bremen last season.
Hoffenheim and Liverpool have never played each other before and there is very little competitive form to go by. Its a tough one to call but I think this game will end as draw.

In my opinion, Liverpool have the tendency to turn up for big games. They showed that in premier league last season against top sides. Liverpool really depend on themselves tonight to get a result tonight. If the whole world knows their defence is crap then surely they know that as well. If they decide to tighten up tonight, this game could let everyone down.
Klopp took liverpool twice to germany in Europa league and did not lose to Dortmund and Augsburg. There is a fact though! The fact is – Liverpool have better team. If you compare side by side, even the defenders. I wouldnt be surprised if Liverpool win 1-0 tonight or even take a goalless draw back to Anfield.
All in all, i dont think Liverpool will lose tonight but I tend to leave games like these for betting.

Heading over to Brasil for the Night Owl…

LONDRINA VS. BRASIL DE PELOTAS (2315 KO):

BDP’s recent form looks better than our hosts here but I wouldn’t be duped into reading too much into that – Londrina have played their last 3 against the top three (Mineiro, Villa Nova and Internacional)…and scored in 2 of those 3 challenging games.

In fact, they have score in 8 of their last 11 and have, perhaps more notably, scored in 100% of the most recent 7 H2H’s against tonight’s opposition!

BDP have scored at least one goal in 15 of their own last 22 games and have failed to net in only 2 of the most recent H2H’s

The away goal is the worry here but with a combination of some recent high-scorers (or lack of low-scorers), Londrina coming off a tough run with something to prove and a decent history between the two, I’m taking a gamble on two selections that pay a decent return:

    BTTS…EVENS
    ???

    BTTS & OVER 2.5 MGS…13/8

    Best of luck.

No time for a write-up.. can’t see Hoffenheim getting anything out of tonight’s match, not without last season’s best two players (Sule and Rudy).I reckon Liverpool will score a couple of goals even without Coutinho and Sturridge.

Just the one winner from me tonight with an unfortunately quiet game on the goal front at York. Stats suggest that York peppered the Darlo goal – I reckon one going in would’ve changed the complexion of the game. Truro had a second disallowed too.

Still, that’s the way it goes and not too much harm done after plenty of good fortune on the weekend.

    Well done all with winners!

    Tomorrow
Shanghai V Evergrande BTTS and Overs 20/21
    Real Madrid v Barca > 2.5 MGS & > 10 Corners 6/5
Plenty of goals in the CSL for these 2 in their h2hs this season – hopefully see more in the Cup Semi tomorrow. Leg 2 of the Spanish Super cup should see goals again. 16 corners in the first leg so 10 seems reasonable for the second leg

Just a bit of a summary on a couple of local games:

Middlesbrough won with spare and the woes continue for Burton with another red card.

Derby won from the penalty spot on a game where we had the lions share of shots at goal. Preston had a couple of chances but never capitalised. Weimann was easily man of the match, he was a constant threat and seems to be 20-30% more menacing than usual. He’s had 2 good games now and given that Derby have just signed Tom Lawrence from Leicester for around £7 mill, if Weimann keeps playing the way he has been, Lawrence might not make the starting 11. Incidentally, the ref had an absolute shocker, not playing advantage, missing wrestling matches, elbows etc BUT in the lead up to the penalty – from a corner, he had words with the Preston defenders over the holding. No arguments over the penalty. And Vydra opens his account. Kinda liked the flow of the game today, plenty of threat going forwards, just lacking the wrong decisions when it came to the final touch. Should be able to move on positively from this.

After Forests ” largely annoying ” start to the season ( winning matches ), tonight I was surprised they lost. Maybe Barnsley have upped their game, maybe its a confidence thing, but either way, Forest conceded first, then equalised, then conceded again. I know Forest have spent some money this year, only time will tell if its money well spent.

Birmingham drew at home to Bolton 0-0 which is a good thing from a Derby fans perspective, we travel to Bolton at the weekend and with them kinda misfiring, it could be a place for a slightly chest-puffed-out Derby team to fancy their chances of getting something from that match.

Alfreton beating Ferriby 1 nil. It took till the 2nd half for them to get a 1 nil, but Alfreton are hardly a massive club. I think the most appealing thing about Alfreton is the road leading South. Ferriby rarely even looked like they’d get in to the final 1/3, let alone threaten the Alfreton goal. Ferriby should quite rightly be considered on most acca’s ( to lose of course ). They could be the go-to team for the rest of this campaign. I shall be looking at them each weekend and looking for value in their opposition for forthcoming matches.

Good review – I hear Forest battered Barnsley second half but couldn’t score.
It’s early days but Middlesbrough and Wolves look the teams to beat.
