Medjedovic vs Medvedev Prediction and Betting Tips

Hamad Medjedovic and Daniil Medvedev square off in what should be a fascinating third-round encounter at the ATP Rome Masters 2024. With the draw seemingly wide open now, can Medvedev steady the ship and defend his title? Or will young gun Medjedovic cause yet another upset?

Read on for our Medjedovic vs Medvedev prediction and betting tips.

It’s safe to say that 2024 has not unfolded the way Medjedovic would have hoped. After winning the ATP NextGen Finals in Jeddah late last year, the Serbian was slammed with a debilitating virus in early 2024. Having spent the best part of a month in bed, Medjedovic is only now beginning to rekindle the kind of form that saw him burst onto the scene recently.

For Medvedev, he’s one of the only big names who hasn’t crashed out of the ATP Rome Masters so far. The Russian is the defending champion here in Italy, and will be counting his lucky stars that he won’t need to go past Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner in order to do so.

How will this clash unfold? We break down everything there is to know and outline our betting recommendations.

How the Bookies View It: Not As Lopsided As You’d Think

Bookmakers have Medvedev a strong favourite in this clash. However, the Russian isn’t as up in the odds as you’d think, considering this is a clash between the world No. 4 and No. 121. Medvedev pays 4/11 to win, with Medjedovic at 21/10 and set betting paying 5/6 for a 2-0 win to Medvedev.

Recent Head-to-Head: Nothing to See Here

Given that Medjedovic is only 20 years old, it’s no surprise that this is the first meeting between these two players on the ATP Tour.

Anything Else Catch the Eye?

Heading into Rome, an injury cloud lingered over Medvedev. The second seed was forced to retire injured from the Madrid Masters just last week, citing a shoulder injury in the quarter-finals. No signs of this carrying over into his first-round match in Rome, however.

Medjedovic is now on a four-match winning streak in Rome, having come through qualifying this time last week. The Serbian is playing some lights-out tennis. He’s yet to drop a set, and his last three matches have seen winner to unforced error ratios of 25-4, 21-12 and 26-10.

The serve of Medjedovic has been firing this last week as well. Against Davidovich-Fokina he fired down 10 aces and recorded a top speed of 236 km/h, while in his win over Popyrin he made nine aces and landed a 229 km/h serve.

Medjedovic vs Medvedev Betting Tips & Predictions

Expect Medvedev to turn up locked in for this match, with the Russian knowing that this title is his to lose. His experience and consistency should get him across the line against Medjedovic, but don’t be surprised if the Serbian is unplayable for patches as he swings for the fences.

  • Medvedev to win and over 19.5 games @ 19/20
  • Each player over four aces @ 12/5
