It was reported earlier this week that Kyle Walker is set to leave Manchester City, having discussed his future with current manager Pep Guardiola.

Walker is currently in his eighth season at the Etihad, having joined from Tottenham for £45 million back in 2017.

13 major trophies later, including a Champions League and six Premier League titles, and it seems like the Englishman's time with the club has finally run its course.

City have been greatly underwhelming so far this season, sitting sixth in the table, having conceded an unexpectedly high 27 goals and enduring a torrid run between November and December.

A lot of onus has been put on Walker and his performances, and the player feels like it is the right time to depart the club with which he has won absolutely everything.

Now, Italian giants AC Milan appear to be the frontrunners in what may become a hotly-contested race for the right-back's signature. At 34 years old, it is anyone's guess as to who the defender will sign for.

Current favourites

AC Milan – 4/9

Serie A strugglers AC Milan have emerged as the favourites in the race to sign Walker, being priced at 4/9 by bookies to secure the services of the England stalwart before the end of the January transfer window.

AC Milan have had a torrid time this season, currently sitting in eighth place in the league, having won only seven time in 18 games.

The club's poor run led to the sacking of Paulo Fonseca, who had lasted only six months at the helm of one of Europe's most historic clubs.

Experience and a proven track record may be needed to rescue the Rossoneri from their current mid-table mediocrity. However, at 4/9, betting on Walker does not yet provide a great return on investment for punters.

Any Saudi club – 3/1

At a slight outside chance, Walker moving to any Saudi Pro League team stands as a 3/1 option for bettors. This is a tricky choice to gauge, as the Englishman allegedly earns £300,000 per week, and thus could be hard to satisfy when approaching a contract negotiation.

At 34 years old, this may be Walker's last chance for a huge payout, and other large European clubs may not see the player as providing an adequate return on their investment in such a lucrative contract.

Only time will tell whether the former Spurs defender will wish to continue playing at the top level, or opt for a switch to the Middle East for one final pay cheque.

Inter Milan – 9/2

Also placed at an outside chance, AC's bitter rivals Inter provide competition in the race for the six-time Premier League winner.

Second in the Serie A table with two games in hand, signing a defender with as renowned as Walker could add great value to the ranks of Simone Inzaghi's side, and propel them towards a 21st Scudetto.

However, it is unlikely that the Man City man would have a chance of dethroning current first-choice right-back Denzel Dumfries, and may have to settle for a bench spot.

This then begs the question as to whether Inter would bother to seek out Walker if only for him to occupy a spot among the club's substitutes.

With their current prowess in all areas of the pitch, coupled with their excellent form, it would seem unlikely that Inter would be in need of another right-back for their squad, especially one who will likely demand a sizeable contract.
