After 13 days of fierce tennis action, it’s all come down to this: Barbora Krejcikova vs Jasmine Paolini in the Wimbledon women’s singles final. A total of 128 women began last Monday hoping to lift the trophy in London, now just two remain.
Will the red-hot Paolini make it second time lucky as she plays her second consecutive Grand Slam final? Or can Krejcikova add to the one Grand Slam she collected in 2021 already? Read on for our Krejcikova vs Paolini prediction and betting tips based on the latest odds from bookmaker Betfred.
Player Form: Paolini’s Consistency
Jasmine Paolini has hands down been the most consistent player on the WTA Tour over the past two months. The Italian had her breakthrough Grand Slam at the French Open in June, and now she’s backed up that effort with a run to the final in Wimbledon as well.
So far this tournament, she’s looked brilliant. The No. 7 seed has dropped just two sets, in the Round of 16 against Madison Keys and most recently in the semi-finals against Donna Vekic. Outside of those matches, she’s been dominant.
Krejcikova, on the other hand, has come out of the blue to make the Wimbledon final. She has a strong resume over the course of her career–former world No. 2, Grand Slam champion–but this year has been woeful.
However, it’s all come together for her on the London grass. She’s defeating three dangerous opponents in a row to make the championship match. First, it was the No. 11 seed Danielle Collins, who she beat in straight sets. Then, No. 13 seed Jelena Ostapenko, also in two sets. Most recently, she ousted bookies’ favourite Elena Rybakina, coming from behind to win in three.
How the Bookies View It: Tight
Bookmaker Betfred has this clash very close. Krejcikova is given the slight edge at 8/11, with Paolini not far behind on 6/5. Set betting puts this at 2-0 Krejcikova for a 7/4 return.
Recent Head-to-Head: Nothing to See
Krejcikova and Paolini have met once before on the WTA Tour, with the Czech winning. However, don’t read too far into this one–it was over six years ago, in the first round of qualifying for the Australian Open.
Anything Else Catch the Eye?
Paolini just played the longest ever Wimbledon semi-final in history against Vekic.
