JOHNB drew a blank on Saturday with his main tips and had one Royal Ascot winner with Mahsoob at 2-1.

Well done to all who put up winners on the thread and our man has a joint nap and NB lined up for Sunday as he bids to boost his June profit which now stands at 9.3 points.

STRAVAGANTE has lost his fight for life after surgery was unable to save him from an injury suffered in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot on Friday.

Sent off favourite, Stravagante, trained by Sir Michael Stoute, was pulled up sharply by jockey Frankie Dettori and the fracture to his cannonbone was worse than initial X-rays showed.

Stravagante was wearing the colours of Sheikh Joaan’s Al Shaqab Racing for the first time after a share in the three-year-old was purchased from Michael Tabor, who retained a share in the son of Rip Van Winkle.

Harry Herbert, racing manager for Al Shaqab, said on Saturday: “It’s not good I’m afraid, they couldn’t save him. The horse was stabilised very, very quickly on the course and taken to Newmarket where everything was done. But the injury was too bad.

“The horse was very brave. It’s very, very sad, a shocker. one of those awful things. Frankie came to see the Sheikh and was too upset to chat about it. It’s the worst part of being involved in racing and one feels most for those in Sir Michael’s yard.”

Third behind subsequent Derby runner-up Jack Hobbs at Sandown in April, Stravagante landed a valuable handicap at Epsom before tackling the King Edward VII Stakes won by Balios.

The nap seems to prefer softer ground has not run more than 1m 4f and has never run in a class 4 im not convinced this is going to do anything. Whats your reasons for backing it?

I was listening to the race Jb and I did wonder what happened. Thanks for the info. I can tell by subsequent posts that his passing will dissappear into the racing books quickly. That I find a bit sad but in all honesty a harsh reality of the sport/business. It’s funny how a horse dying has affected me. I’m new to the show and will not go green peace on it I promise. But that hurt me more than it seems to have hurt others.

  11. WasClueless 3 years ago

Sad to hear that JohnB .. think I saw the race where Frankie kept looking down knowing something was very wrong … RIP

Peter Bowen must have faith in Sam James after winning on awaywiththegrays last month. The horse has also won over 3 miles on heavy ground off a greater weight so I think the nap stands a good chance. Been following this thread for 6 months and starting to learn a great deal so cheers JB and all the regulars. GL all.

Flash picking horses is down to opinion and my opinion makes profits,
Some of my horses win when nobody else thinks they will, thats why its important for anyone who follows to back all of them.
gone are the days when you just looked at track, trainer, going, distance
yes its still part of studying but the majority of punters study that way and majority of punters lose, so that way doesnt work.
actually watching a horse for the way it moves and time figures, sectional timing is the way forward
as for todays NAP Awaywiththegreys he hasnt run in a class 4 because its the horses handicap debut so he is starting out in a class 4
Watching him run, straight away i can see this horse needs a stamina test, he is a stayer and this distance at this track sems perfect to me even gfound wont be a problem
but what everyone needs to remember is no matter how much anyone fancies a horse it still has to have a good day at the office, horses like us can have bad days.
Also need luck on running or jockey to ride a good race or even the horse has to be wanted
todays step up in distance makes me think connections are trying today but i could be wrong

  18. johnb 3 years ago

For anyone interested, looking at sectionals the best horse last year was Golden Horn and in my mind he had the breeding for the Derby distance,
The year before Taghrooda was one of the top horses when looking at sectionals and she also looked 1m 4f in breeding.
this year Log Out Island in his first race clocked exceptional sectional figures and even at Royal Ascot when 2nd after setting a ridiculous speed early on his figures for later in the race were not that bad and i am now even more confident about next years 2000 guineas

  19. ANDREW DODD 3 years ago

I am laying Gatewood to good money today. It ran at Newbury last time out in a race won by Telescope and although its seasonal debut it was beaten a very long way. With both Conneticut and Red Galileo being live dangers I just think 2/1 for Gatewood is to short a price. Has anyone any thoughts on this Thanks. Also in the 1st race I fancy on an each way basis the 2nd fav against the Mark Johnston horse. He has stall 10 to overcome hence the each way aspect. Any thoughts on this, thank you.

  23. Yovan 3 years ago

JohnB is spot on here. You have to follow every single tip, with his staking plan, if you want to make profit. His tips are unorthodox, in a sense that he is not going for obvious choices. More often than not they are long shots and more often than not they lose, not even place. This month JohnB is showing 9.3pt, which is not amazing, but still profit is profit. But if you were unlucky enough not to back his picks that day when he hit a double, you would be down 40pt for the month.
Internet is full of tipsters, some free like JohnB, some paid, that show nice profit, so if this is not for you and you don’t feel you can follow it religiously, go with somebody else. It is almost like Stock market, you’ve got low risk and high risk bets. I call JohnB’s high risk bets. You are losing most of the time, but then you hit nice, big odds NAP/NB, or double and all of a sudden you are in profit. Patience and discipline needed, which few of us here have. If you decide to follow tipster that gives his opinion for free and most of the time don’t even give the reasons for his tips, than you don’t have much room for complaint. Follow someone else, who is more suited to your needs.
