JOHNB had an 11-2 winner with his NB Speedy Boarding on Thursday to ensure a day of profit.

It was three points staked in total and a return of 6.5 so our man finished the day 3.5pts up and his June deficit is now down to 5.5pts.

Johnb's Friday Tips

Sandown 3:50
Karraar 8-1 Ladbrokes Coral

Dagher 2-1 NAP/NB Bet365 Skybet (double stake)

Karraar & Dagher 23-1 Skybet

Dagher (NAP/NB)
Johnb says: “Let's start with the biggest plus for this horse on Friday and that is the booking of Ryan Moore who has a 48 point profit to level stakes when riding for Peter Chappel-Hyam and the last time he booked Moore was a year ago.
“Last time out Dagher was a decent 4th at Doncaster and I say decent because the jockey that day Cam Hardie was easy on him and didn’t knock him about.
“That Doncaster race has seen the 2nd and 3rd horses come out and win decent races. SAHAAFY (2nd) won by 5 lengths at Newmarket and AL BANDAR (3rd) won by 3 lengths at Epsom (one of my tips). So I think we will be getting a big run from this colt who is by New Approach and out of a Barathea dam.”

    3:25 Newton Abbot – Brody Bleu NAP @ 5/2

This horse has won it’s last 4 races and always does enough to get it’s head in front, only 2lb up from last win and his trainer looks to have found the right race to collect again.

    7:25 Chepstow – Bountybemadam NB @ 9/2

Back on a winning mark at it’s favorite track where it has won all it’s races before, again the trainer looks to have placed his horse in the right to collect.

How can you use a profit/loss stat when he’s not ridden for a year?

Like saying a guy has 100% tipping record… but not put one up for a year…. all about recent bias

Ryan Moore has ridden once for Peter Chappel-Hyam in the past 12 months and the horse was unplaced – so your stats immediately look shaky.

In 2014 and 2015 Moore has 3 rides for Chappel-Hyam, 0 winners and 2 places

In 2012 Moore rode four for him, one winner (5/4f) and 2 places

So in the past 3 and 1/2 years, one winner, a 5/4f from seven rides. Where do you get your horrendous facts from?

    2011, 5 rides, 1 winner… 15/8f…

    2012, 5 rides, 1 winner… 9/1…

So since the turn of the decade Moore has ridden 3 winners from 17 rides, and that’s a significant.

  4. johnb 3 years ago

CharlesMac I thought you would have known that Ryan Moore is one of Peter Chappel-Hyam’s go to jockeys when he has a horse that in his mind has a chance but most importantly when a horse needs a horseman not a jockey
As you said Ryan was unplaced last time he rode for this trainer June last year on a horse called Farquar but the ground dried up too much for him and that was the race where I tipped the winner as my NAP CONNECTICUT and the previous 5 races before that Moore had been in the first three on all of them
The stat for points to level Stakes doesn’t actually mean a lot its more the fact that Moore is one of Chappel-Hyam’s go to jockeys and that is a well known fact

Yes three winners from last seventeen since April 2010 which is 18% that’s still classed as decent but out of those seventeen, nine were in the first three which is 53%

No horse is 100% guaranteed to win but again if Moore rides for Chappel-Hyam then its got more of a chance of winning

  12. Yovan 3 years ago

I’d like to know why Karraar? Absent for 269 days, won last race in class 5 over 12f, today’s race is class 3, over 10f. Only competitive so far in class 5 races. Positives, booking of R. Moore, who rode him once over C & D (3rd) and carries less weight.
Just as I wrote this Karraar was made NR. Still I don’t get why it made on the list of 2 bets, today.

    • The Postman 3 years ago

Hi Yovan, JohnB will have had good reason, however from my take on it William Haggas has a great record with horses that are past on to him, always note in the horses switching stable section of any horse he gets hold of on it’s first run for him, sadly now it is a non runner it will be hard to prove the point, stick it in your note book for next time.

  17. johnb 3 years ago

I have said on numerous occasions not to just go by what’s written down
The best tool we as punters have for picking horses are our eyes, we have to learn what to look for, learn what a horses action means, learn if a horse is looking good or not.
Punters have never had it so good, with the internet now we can see as many previous races as we want as many times as we want
Karraar last year just didn’t look the part for the horses he was taking on
he was still running ok against better horses who were physically fitter than him
horses like Melrose Abbey, Nabatean, Connecticut, Wonderstruck, Forever Now, Kings Fete, Double Bluff.

You sometimes know if a horse is going to make a better horse the following year and that’s what Karraar looked like
he was just a horse that needed time

There is always a reason for a horse getting beat and too many times punters complain when a horse runs bad and then complain when that horse wins when they thought it had no chance

  18. Yovan 3 years ago

Thanks Postman. I knew JohnB had a good reason to put it as a tip, but I was wondering what it was. I was gonna wait until its second run.

  19. johnb 3 years ago

I was just saying yesturday before Speedy Boarding ran that i was trying to find odds for her to win the Irish Oaks,
    then this gets written today

James Fanshawe’s decision to give Speedy Boarding an Irish Oaks entry could turn out to be a shrewd move following her taking victory in the Lord Weinstock Memorial EBF Stallions Stakes at Newbury.

After losing her maiden tag on her seasonal return at Goodwood last month the three-year old showed that the step up to Listed level was far from beyond her in the mile-and-a-quarter contest.

Positioned just behind the front rank pair of Jasmine Blue and Loaves And Fishes by Freddy Tylicki for much of the race the well-supported 7-2 shot moved to the head of affairs just outside the furlong pole.

Despite hanging left the daughter of Shamardal had three-quarters of a length to spare at the line ahead of the unlucky in running Hot Sauce.

Fanshawe said: “She was a nice looking two-year-old but she was very green and she took a while to come to herself in her coat this year.

“She’s got the makings to step up and improve again as she has a great temperament and she’s getting the hang of it all the time.

“She has an entry in the Irish Oaks, I think she’ll love it as her sister stayed well but she won’t be going for it unless she’s ready as she has a lot of physical improvement to make.

“There’s five weeks until that race so we’ll play it by ear but it’s definitely an option.”

  22. Yovan 3 years ago

Thanks for clearing that up JohnB. So it is pretty much a guess that it will be fit After long break and that this year it will do better against some good horses. Still not sure if that was enough to make it second best bet of the day. Anyway, it was your choice and I respect that.

  23. Duncan Poundcake 3 years ago

    Pressure off GL.

  24. johnb 3 years ago

Yovan its not a guess, after years of studying horses and being round about horses you get to know what they are like
It’s not difficult for someone that knows horses to know if they are late developers or its not hard to know if horses will need a run or if trainers can get horses ready

My record speaks for itself and I am not scared to say I will guarantee profits every year
Because I know my way works as I think outside the ball park
Some people my think it’s big headed guaranteeing profits but its just belief in myself and belief in how I do it

  25. john 3 years ago

garfo did you get a tip for red skipper

  26. johnb 3 years ago

Big Gee its stats that don’t tell the full story as I said before there is always a reason for a horse losing but whatever profits a jockey has for a certain trainer indicates that any rides he has for that trainer have to be looked at even more

  61. johnb 3 years ago

The Special One 11/10 is short but I still think it’s a great price as I would doubt whether New Bay or Gleneagles would run and the time posted in the Derby “only one second outside Workforce time” says he is top class

Still about JB ? Any thoughts on dr irv. Know you’ve napped it before ?

  67. beachbum 3 years ago

Do agree with a lot of the comments that you have made today Johnb.
If someone gives me a tip or i read someone’s strong opinion about a certain horse i look at the race and form myself to see if what’s being said is backed up by my own judgement.
You must use your own eyes to evaluate
what you see in a race because we all interpret what we see in a race differently.
Sometimes were right and sometimes we are wrong that’s the beauty of this game.

  71. Yovan 3 years ago

Beachbum I agree with you, but there was no strong opinion, in fact there was no opinion at all, just tip. That’s why I asked, because I couldn’t see JohnB’s angle on Karaarr. I checked and couldn’t see any tipster on Twitter, or papers, or forum like this go for that one, so I was intrigued why he went for it, as a second best tip of the day. Credit to JohnB he replied and explained. It is a NR now, but I still would not go for that one, as I was not convinced, but I went for Nap/NB, as I think it was a good choice.
