HullShaker’s Tips: Cup goals can freeze out bookies

GOALS may well be the route to success for this evening's picks and I'm taking on two Icelandic Cup games featuring 1 Deild sides playing host to top-flight opposition.

HAUKAR v BREIDABLIK (6pm)

Haukar's 2019 cup exploits have been pretty rank thus far and, with 3 consecutive losses, I can't see them having too much luck against tonight's visitors!

Breidablik were one of the highest performing sides in last year's Urvalsdeild campaign and have looked bright in their pre-season cup matches having hit 4-2-3-2-5-1-4-4-2-3 team goals in a run that sees them undefeated in 10 and looking for a 7th consecutive win.

These two haven't met in nearly a decade so H2Hs are pretty meaningless but for me, it's all about the intent of Breidablik who have the potential to carve open Haukar.

GRÓTTA v FH (7pm)

Grotta head into this one after a successful reinstatement back into 1 Deild and the knowledge although they can't match FH in terms of stature, they may just be able to probe that ever so vulnerable defence and find a way on to the scoresheet.

The hosts managed to hit 2 past Vikingur in their last cup game and that bodes well as they take on an FH side who are living up to my expectations and have conceded in 5 of their own last 6 games!

Both sides scoring in a game with such a quality mismatch is always a risk but I've highlighted FH time and again and it's rare they let me down – throw in the fact their last 4 matches have seen 4-4-5-5 goals and there's certainly potential for value.
