King of Stars was very disappointing at Bath on Tuesday, which is disappointing as he was heavily backed in the market throughout the day.
King Of Stars was advised at 15/2, and when I saw the money come for my selection, I was confident we would at least get a run for our money. King Of Stars broke well from the stalls but went off like the hammers in front, and I knew from an early stage it was game over. Similar to his recent York performance, he faded with about 2f to go and finished tailed off.
Yellow Diamonds 2/1 – Musselburgh 1:45
Most people tend to hate small runner fields, but I prefer them as there is less likelihood of your selection having trouble in running, and nine times out of ten, the best horse wins on the day, and it's as simple as that.
It will probably come back to bite me, backing against an odds-on youngster from the Karl Burke yard, but I think you can take on his runner in this field, and Yellow Diamonds looks the horse to be on in my opinion.
The market leader, Tea Queen, was last seen running on debut at Beverley two weeks ago, and I actually had a bet in that race on the second favourite, who also did not win. Tea Queen finished last of six in that race, and I was far from impressed by the performance, and I'm sure favourite backers felt the same as she was strong in the market before the off. She was extremely keen from the get-go and was never really involved. Of course, she surely can't be any worse than what we saw, and that market tells you she is much better than that but I personally wouldn't be getting involved at odds on.
I thought Yellow Diamonds was actually the safer bet at 2/1, and I'm surprised the K P De Foy youngster isn't a tad shorter at time of writing. My selection is yet to win after four starts, but has improved with each run with form figures of 4432. Yellow Diamonds is yet to run on turf, with all of his runs coming on the AW, which of course is a risk, but If she can transfer that form to the turf, then I think she has every chance of turning over the market principal in this race. I caught replays of her last two outings, and I thought there was more positives to take than negatives from those performances. She looks a speedy sort and looked to settle quite well throughout her races.
