daily racing tips 1

Whenever the Byrnes yard sends runners over to the UK, they are normally well-supported as they don't waste many bullets when travelling. The same comments can be applied to Cairnzy's Tuesday pick as From The Ashes went off as 6/4F but was eventually beaten by the 16/1 Sean Og who caused a big shock.

Rizzel's tips

Gentleman Jacques 5/2 – Wincanton 3.05

On the bare look of things, it would appear to be quite risky going for Gentleman Jacques even though he won in commanding style last time out at this venue. Prior to that win he was 0/8 over hurdles and was winless in every code as a racehorse, but it seems that Emma Lavelle has found the winning formula with this horse with that being running over hurdles on very bad ground and at intermediate trips.

I don't think this race will be an easy win by any means as there are plenty of unexposed horses in this lineup who have to be respected, but the use of the 10lb claimer Cameron Johnstone-Baker could be crucial as that eliminates the majority of the 11lb rise in the weights he got for winning by 12L last time out, so with him being just 1lb heavier than last time he has to be the one to beat. His two recent runs have been his two best runs to date, even the heavy runner-up defeat the time before last was a very good effort as it turns out that the winner was well ahead of the handicapper and managed to win off a higher mark on his next run and is now rated much higher than when he beat Gentleman Jacques.

It's always a risk going for 10lb claimers who we know very little about but Emma Lavelle is a well-respected yard and I doubt she would be putting up a jockey who isn't capable, and based on the numbers we have of this jockey he seems decent. He was on a stable winner a couple of days ago, which turned his record to 2/9 with a further six placed efforts, so I think he is worth the punt on a horse who is clearly relishing these testing conditions and likes the track.

Bring The Action 25/1 EW – Wetherby 4.28

I can see why people would get drawn into backing Bring The Action for this race as he is 2/4 over fences and has the progressive profile to suggest he can defy the recent rise in the weights, but I think this is a deeper race than what it appears like.

These types of races are ones you should probably not get too heavily involved in if backing the shorter-priced horses as horses like Bring The Action are on very dangerous marks and are course and distance winners, which is why I think he deserves a chance at a much bigger price than my initial fancy.

I am a fan of the Nigel Hawke stable, he does well with the amount of horses he has, and I've landed a few winners from this yard when they decide to travel a decent amount of miles. Bring The Action has not been in great form, but that has seen his handicap mark drop violently and he is now 1lb lower than when winning at Hereford this time last year. I think it's of major interest that Nigel has decided to come to Wetherby for today's race when his horse is on such a low mark. He is 1/2 at this track with his sole defeat coming as a result of a fall when he was the favourite for the race, so given he was sent off as the favourite suggests connections were expecting a big run. He will enjoy the fact that the ground is drying out as his best conditions are good to soft, and at the prices, I am more than happy to take a chance.
