Rizzel was tied up with a few things on Tuesday evening, so Cairnzy has jumped on to post his best fancies for Wednesday's Racing.

It was an unlucky run for Francisco's Piece, who missed the places by one. He didn't break quickly from the stalls, but had every chance of hitting the frame. He probably didn't race on the best ground, but I think he was hindered by carrying a heavy weight. Also, the ground didn't get as testing as Rizzel hoped, which would have suited his runner.

Dark Reign 7/2 – Kempton 5.40

I had some success last time on the thread when tipping up a newcomer, and I’ve found myself going down the same avenue this time around with the Richard Hannon trained Dark Reign.

Those with experience don’t set a high standard, which includes the market leader Guadalevin, who at 5/2 is hardly bulletproof on the back of his recent third on debut. With that said, I think this could go to a newcomer, and my eye was immediately drawn to Dark Reign.

As stated, my selection is a newcomer, so I don’t exactly have any form to go on. However, my selection is nicely bred, being related to Group 3 winner King Of Cities and a half-sister to Inisherin, who is a previous Group 1 winner.

Trainer Richard Hannon has his string in good nick at present, operating at a healthy 22% SR in the last 14 days, producing 10 winners from his last 46 runners. Notably, he is also known for doing well with his two-year-olds, and he may have another decent sort on his hands with Dark Reign.

Casino Star 4/1 – 7.00 Hamilton

Once again, I find myself tipping in a race in which I’ve basically zero form lines to go on. It’s a risk I’m willing to take, as flat racing as we know throws up wacky results at the best of times.

Your current market leader is Royal Heritage, who was an 800,000 euro breeze up purchase, and if going by his market price of 1/2, you’d assume he’s very much a decent sort for the powerful Wathan Racing team. He is, of course, another nicely bred horse, which is to be expected given the price tag, but I wouldn’t be getting involved on debut at such a short price.

That left me with Casino Star, who at 7/2 looks the clear value pick if you are one for taking on the shorties in the market. My selection doesn’t have a classy pedigree compared to that of the market principal, but he is trained by Karl Burke, who we all know is a shrewd trainer when it comes to his younger string of horses. Karl is operating at an impressive 27% SR with his juveniles this year and has maintained that form over the last five years ( 20% of the last 5 years ). His younger horses always have to be respected on debut.
