Sassified ran a horrible race at Newton Abbot, which was a surprise as he remained quite steady in the market and his C&D form at the track was there for all to see.
I thought the recent break would have freshened him up, but I got it totally wrong. I've just one selection for Tuesday's card and it comes from the flat meeting at Bath.
King Of Stars 15/2 – Bath 4.52
This is a tricky-looking race, and the current market tells you all you need to know with the top four in the market ranging from prices from 9/2 to 11/2.
Plenty arrive with claims, and I was tempted by a couple of them at first. Aces Wild and the consistent Jax Edge were two that I looked at before finally deciding on the Mick Appleby-trained King Of Stars.
My selection is King Of Stars, who I think holds a good chance in this race and at more attractive odds. My selection has tended to contest in higher grades than this, and this contest represents quite a significant drop in quality from a class 2 to a class 4.
King Of Stars was last seen competing in a competitive Class 2 contest at York three weeks ago, and despite finishing twelfth, I don’t believe the final positioning does the horse justice. King Of Stars led in that contest for a stage and started to weaken around 2f from home. As my selection was headed, he soon lost his position and as a result, was squeezed out when trying to get going again. King Of Stars was never going on to win that race, but definitely would have finished much closer.
Before that, he ran a good race at Ascot in a Class 2, out-running his odds of 50/1 to finish in third place. A repeat performance of that effort would see him bang there, and with young Mason Paetel taking off a handy 5lb, there is every chance he could run a big race.
